  • Was made @ Ralston Purina in Lancaster, Ohio.

  • THE FREAKIES!! / NickJr 2010 Bumper

  • this was made by purina right? the dog food company?

  • I actually had a Freakies sweatshirt. I believe it was Gargle.

  • I had the magnet collection, the freakmobiles and the figurine collection. Such good memories.

  • Who do we contact to get this cereal back into production??!! ... and I'm talking about the "ORIGINAL" FREAKIES (Jackie End era).

  • Thank you all (or most all) of you for remembering the Freakies fondly. They have a website now; freakies.com Please visit and read 'Look Homeward, Freakie' - it's all about how the Freakies came to the New World. The Freakies aren't dead. They're just not on TV. - Jackie End

  • This was THE BEST cereal EVER, my mom could not get enough for us kids. There were 5 of us. We had All the magnets and the iron on patches.

WHY did they quit making the cereal........ we thought it had to do with the fact that it was the Ralston Purina Co. It might have been dried out cat or dog food.....LOL LOL It was good stuff!!!!

  • I THINK i remember this cereal. Mostly because of the free toy inside...

  • Cool, but why does the magnet stick to the box? More to Freakies than meets the eye?

It kind of looks as though it was the precursor to King Vitamin...

  • I was born in 1983 I love and study retro stuff. I have NEVER heard of this and it's freakin' sweet!

  • The voice acting is great, but yeah, those characters are fugly

  • Somewhere, Lincoln and Washington are doing 3200 rpm....

  • I just got the complete set of 7 Freakies figures this week. Someone was selling a pile of plastic figures on ebay. I actually bid because it included 11 Nabisco Winnie the Pooh Bowl Hangers/Spoon Buddies which I saw someone sell for $125 bucks last week. I typed a search for cereal premiums & when I saw the word Freakies I realized I had Boss Moss, Grumble, Cowmumble, Goody-Goody, Snorkledorf, Hamhose, & Gargle. They fetch a pretty penny on ebay also!

  • The kid at the end of the first commercial looks disgusted...he doesn't even eat the cereal, just pushes it around the bowl while grimacing.

  • Patrick Warburton could be the new voice of Boss Moss!

  • Is the Duke voicing the Boss Moss?

  • @barjan1 BLASPHEMY!

  • @ESRO2 Hey at least I tried it. But they are still scary. Eat Cocoa Pebbles, breakfast with the Flintstones. Have a good one.

  • @barjan1

I loved these commercials! I hated the cereal, but I used to always look forward to these commercials between saturday morning cartoons! I remember the first one where they discovered the freakies tree- and then the later commercials came out- and if they ever showed the first one, I used to get all excited! LOL

The cereal was awful but I loved those commercials! I had always hoped they'd be a cartoons series!!

  • I had a Freakie stuck in my nose more than once!

  • My husband had never heard of Freakies (gasp!) and when I showed him these commercials, he still had no recollection. Then I went to our refrigerator, grabbed the Snorkledorf magnet from it and showed it to him "Oh, is THAT where he's from?" I've never been far from my Freakies magnet! When Facebook had the "post your favorite cartoon character as your profile pic", I tried in vain to find a usable picture of Snorkledorf!

  • This used to be my favorite cereal as a kid-now I'm a 46 year old pothead. is there a connection? Quite possibly!!!

  • WOW!! cant believe somebody has all those comercials saved!!

  • We never miss a meal... ’cause we love our cere-eeel !!!

  • FREAKMOBILE LOL!

  • I think they came out as erasers too.

  • Oh man...Thank you so much for posting this! I had a very vague memory for the tune in this jingle...but for the life of me I could not place it! All I knew it was somehow cartoon related. I had forgotten all about this cereal. I had a few of those indestructible "gel-like" characters. Time to do some ebay shopping now...

  • I loved Freakies, but did anyone ever notice that they kinda look like "rainbow colored boogers"? That's sick I know.

  • lol I have a couple of each version of those toys....

  • THE FREAKMOBILE! I had like 6 of them.

  • OMG - I had just a few of the toys, but wow is this a flashback - lol!

  • I loved Freakies as a kid. I miss them. They were great.

  • @Badfingerfan1 I remember them tasting pretty much exactly like CAP'N CRUNCH, though it's been almost 40 years since i ate any FREAKIES.

  • I used to have the entire collection of FREAKIES figurines and refridgerator magnets. Heck, they're probably still around here somewhere! I loved that cereal.

  • @RoPaul69

    SEND THEM TO ME PLEASE!!!

  • This scared me so mutch

  • @Djtobidj pussy

  • @NYKID10014

    Get sum

  • I WANT FREAKIES! I MISS FREAKIES! I WANNA FREE FREAKIE!

  • Jackie End...WILL YOU MARRY ME??!!!!

  • I can't believe it! Freakies cereal!!! I didn't think I'd ever see these characters ever again. I had forgotten their names, but I remembered the song. It is Burgess Merideth narrating. They have John Wayne, Mel Brooks, and other sound alikes. I didn't realize that as a kid. I loved Freakies even more than Quisp Cereal. Does anyone remember Monster cookies? Each cookie had a bite taken out of them by a different monster. Am I remembering that right?

  • Have any of you heard of "Breakfast of the Gods"? It has all the cereal mascots fighting in an epic war. The Freakies make an appearance, hanging out in their tree.

  • OMG!!! I so have all the Freakies magnets stuck to my file cabinet at work! I wish I had the Freakies medal. :(

  • No one ever believes me when I talk about FREAKIES!

  • As a representative of those born after 1990, my brain is hemoraging right now. And I have good reason to believe that it has to do with these commercials.

  • WOW....I ask people ALL the time, "do u remember Freakies cereal?"...no one ever knows about or remembers Freakies. I LOVED Freakies and the commercials!

  • Oh, my God... THE FREAKIES?! Lawd have mercy, it's been what- 33, 34 years! FANTASTIC post! Thank you!

    There's that BIG FINISH!

  • Somebody loves those Freakies...anybody ever tried looking on eBay for a box? lol

  • That was one of my favorite cereals. Had all the magnets, which my mom later gave away to some stupid little kid. AUGH!!

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!! I've been telling people about this and they didn't believe me. Now I have proof!!!!!

  • Is that the Purina logo on the top right corner of the box? lol

  • @missclaws619 Yes, it was made by pet food giant Ralston Purina.

  • @missclaws619

Well, in 1974, Ralston Purina made a large inpact in test market, so yes, it has the purina symbol.

  • What were the names of all the Freakies characters?

  • Cowmummble...Bossmoss...Gargle...Snorkeldorfe...Grumble...Goody-Goody...Hamhose

  • "Snorkeldorf"...without the "e" at the end.

  • Cowmumble...Goody-Goody...Boss Moss...Gargle...Hamhose...Snorkeldorf...Grumble

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Ten freakies commercials? I didn't know there were that many.

  • This was great to see again, it's been over 35 years! Great memories of Freakies cereal, Freakies toys, cars, boats and iron on patches! Every Saturday morning ate Freakies and watched Sigmund & The Seamonsters, Land of The Lost, Shazam & Isis! Thanks for posting!

  • I had a Grumble magnet.

  • Since I'm only 17, I don't know much about vintage cereal commercials, but this was my dad's favorite ad campaign. I showed him this and he FREAKED out, no pun intended.

  • Superb marketing campaign. The Seuss-like hook is imprinted in my mind.

  • Maybe some cereal company could put out Freakies on a limited basis. I know they do this with Quisp--I've seen boxes of it in Dollar General!

  • I never ate the cereal, but I LOVED these ads. Thanks for posting!

  • Great collection! I remember each one, and think I had the iron-ons!

Now I can't help thinking - they had a cereal that looked like plain Froot-Loops, and marketed it as Freakies? Then had to add fruit, chocolate, and toys to sell it?

    Freaky.

  • "Vat are ya, a scavenger or sumting?!"

After all these years, I still remember that line. =D

  • The "freaky" American version of the parable of the Kalpataru..

  • Oh man, I remember this cereal. Me and my brothers and my counsin use to collect the toys and the magnets of the characters.

  • This reminds me of my first miserable year at boarding school.

  • Oh, I wonder, I wonder, I wonder...who ate the freakies tree??!!

  • Wow!,I used to love the characters of this cereal! This is awesome! Such memoriers of care freakie times.I always ask people around my age when we start talking " remember when" if they remember the cereal and most people don't remember. I always loved their commercials and had the magnets and all the toys. Thank You for posting this !!!! It totally made my day!

  • I had the whole set of magnets of the freakies. if I remember right the cereal was similar in taste as Capn' Crunch.

  • freakies brings back old memories the cereal was ok but lets be honest most of us really didn't care what it tasted like we just wanted the prize.lol When I got a box I dumped the cereal out in a plastic container got the prize and off to play I went. For some reason I thought they had a matchbox like car as a prize not the freek mobile but another type of car with a metal bottom and one of the freekies on top of it. does anyone remember them? it could have been from another cereal.

  • Lol wtf.

  • memories=D

  • Thank You for the info.

  • I always liked the old jewish one without any arms-

"How about calling it Sam? Or Murray? Oy Vey!"

Okay, I didn't get Jew humor when I was a kid, I just liked it cuz it sounded funny...

  • There was a child molester in my hometown they called 'boss moss' (currently serving a prison sentence)

  • Brings Breakfast Back Home, Thank You!

  • I remember you could order all the Freakies figures off the box with a box top and a modest amount of change, and my mom actually got them for me for my birthday! I miss them very much. Snorkledorf was my favorite. Good cereal.

  • Indubitably!!! : ) Talked my Moms into buying a box or two thanks to this bunch!

  • Toasty and SUGARY.. *L* What a selling point..

  • WOW! I had completely forgot about this stuff. I think I had the fruity Freaky girl toy. Could it have been a pencil topper? I also had the 45 record. The flimsy square record, right? How cool to find this. Thanks for posting.

  • We are the Freakies, We are the Freakies and this is the Freakie's tree. We never miss a meal cuz' we love our sear-e-ill.

I used to have the 45 record that came off the back of the box.

Why did it taste like dog food mixed with chemicals and sadness?

  • I LOVE Freakies. I was so excited when in my college years they brought it back for a short period...but pu tthem in space instead of in their tree. Sigh...memories...

  • HOW did you get this!?!?! You rule!

  • Wow...I loved that cereal. yum-yum.

  • Goodie-Goody's a diva

  • I LOVED Freakies Commercials and the Freakies prizes- but I absolutely hated the cereal! My mother always got mad because I'd beg her to buy it, and never eat it- and the fruity freakies weren't much better- looked like froot loops, but didn't taste like it! I remember these commercials as if it were yesterday! Thanks for posting them!!!!!!!

  • This is great! I remember having the whole set of the freakies.

  • I thought this was gone forever! Thanks for posting. Freak-freak-freakie-oh.

  • I didn't know there were this many Freakies commercials, or that they had a chocolate version!

  • this cereal must have been created by tripped out hippies.

  • oh and i had a Bross Moss shirt as well! I rocked it!

  • I named my first two pet kittens Bossmoss and Orangesbouranges

  • Is that Burgess Merideth as the announcer?I really loved waking up Saturday mornings opening up a fresh box Freakies searching for the free magnets and sitting down to watch Land of the Lost and other Saturday morning Classic Toons like Shazam and others, those were the days.I miss the seventies.

  • It actually tasted like Capn Crunch but with a lil more flavor.

  • Yeah, that's how I remember it to!

Those rubber "fridge-magnets" ruled!!! I had all of 'em at one point in the mid-70's!

  • So do I ... *sniff*

  • Yes it was

  • @mandopunk07 Definatly Burgess.

  • If Freakies cereal was to return, (i hope)it would be probabily be from General Mills, they may of obtained the cereal rights from Ralston-Purina.Chex- formerly from Ralston-Purina now under brand name General Mills- Grins,Smiles Giggles And Laughs,(now defunct) C3PO's Cereal (now defunct) Cracker Jack Cereal (now defunct) and others were carried by Ralston-Purina.

  • I'm pretty sure they came out with another version of the cereal in the 80's after not having it out for a couple of years. It wasn't as good.

    Does anyone else remember that?

  • Yes. A few Freakies were deleted and changed. It did not last long.

  • This 2nd brief coming of Freakies was in 1986 and 1987 and gone afterward.

  • wow these commercials are cool I wasn't arund in the 70s but man if I saw these ads I would have begged my mom to get me some!

  • The animation was incredible in these commercials. Excellent style and textures.

Used to have the Gargle figure and can remember having him as a magnet too...man, brings back memories!

  • anyone remember "klondike pete's crunchy nuggets?"

  • I don't remeber this cereal at all. Was it a fruit cereal or what?

  • pretty much captain crunch in a different shape IIRC.

  • pretty much captain crunch in a different shape IIRC. but it wasn't about the cereal, it was all about the characters. i remember wanting the cereal so bad but not really liking the taste. but i loved the prizes inside and still have a few of them including a hamhose iron-on patch and some goodie goodie figures. but snorkeldorf rules, he's the best!!

  • This was my favorite cereal in the 70's...then it disappeared and re-appeared in the '80's and is now gone again...sigh...never thought I would see those commercials again!

  • To my fellow old timers: When was the last time you remember a cereal actually boasting about being "sugary?"

  • Good point!

  • Wow, whoever thought up this cereal was smokin some shit.

  • It was the '70's, amp-man ! We'd have watched a steamin' pile of mule dung if it was on Saturday Morning TV!

  • OMG! I have about 20 Freakies magnets stuck on my pod at work. A coworker asked me yesterday "did you get those out of a cereal box?" I proudly said "YES! FREAKIES!!" Last night I found this and other posted Freakies videos on YouTube. Love the Freakies! Love YouTube for being a source for the memories! I was about 7-8 years old when the cereal was popular. It was my favorite.

  • *Pssst! -- want to relive the Freakies

    experience?

    Blindfold yourself ...

Take a box of Captain Crunch and pour it into a bowl -- add milk.

However, I'm 40 and I don't remember either Fruity of Cocoa Freakies, only the orginal! tbb

  • my dad loves the freakies he likes mostly boss moss

  • lol. koolio.

  • lol. groovy. iv neva herda thm b4. kool ads thugh hehe.

  • This cereal was sold in the mid seventies, and was in the most feeble manner relaunched in the eighties. Way before your stated time. The characters were interesting, but the cereal tasted vaguely like Capn Crunch but with a slightly metallic taste.

  • I ate the stuff all the time but I don't recall the chocolate and fruity versions...

  • Me neither. The cereal was not as good as C'apn Crunch, they just had a better story.

  • True that...few cereal characters can be that sympathetic....Sugar Bear for instance is so freakin' arrogant i just wanted to smash him in the face....okay, it's just an ad ...good air in,bad air out...

  • what company made Freakies???? I remember collecting the magnets.

  • Ralston Purina if you can believe it. The dog food company.

  • Then we need to get a group of people to send a letter to them to have them bring back Freakies. Thank You for the info.

  • Ralston also made Chex before selling it to General Mills in the 90's

  • is bossmoss voiced by bob dole?

  • I thought he sounded like John Wayne.

  • He does sound a bit like the "Duke"

  • I thought the same thing!

  • I wonder what the taxes are like here?

  • I still have a complete set of Freakies. My Uncle Carey loved them. I don't think the cereal was as popular as these characters.

  • I still have a complete set of Freakies. My Uncle Carry loved them. I don't think the cereal was as popular as these characters.

  • Once Cocoa & Fruity Freakies came around, it was the beginning of the end....sob.The writing was on the wall, but we were to young to realize it.Bring back Freakies!!!

  • Some seriously familiar voices in these. Dear lord I hope that's not really Mel Brooks doing Grumble in the "monster" one though! - mnw

  • Grumble was not a "monster" (not that there's anything wrong with being a monster),but he would resent you calling him such a name.He was a proud "Freakie".

  • WOW! I have the same tape from them 10 years. The beginning is cut off.

  • This was my FAVORITE cereal growing up. I still know the freakies song!!! My kids thought I was nuts and this was something I made up, until I was able to show them!!!!

    Thanks for posting this video!!!!

  • I'm almost afraid to comment on this video, considering my handle (...) but, er I still have two of my Freakies! :)

  • i STILL have my little rubber freakies characters. hee hee

  • what are you a scavenger?

  • From a blog on "Group of Four" advocate Frank Stamm's myspace page:

"What set Freakies apart was that first set of prizes. In the first boxes of the cereal, the prize was one of the seven plastic Freakies characters. What made that special was the box itself. On the box they explained to you who the Freakies were, what their names were, that they lived together in a tree, what their personalities were like. It's like you were buying into a whole other world."

  • LOL!! My brother, sister and I ate this cereal all the time!! We had sooo many of those magnets! What a blast from the past!

  • I also think that Goody-Goody looks like a pink female Yoshi (of the Nintendo charaters)

  • I was into the Freakies,I had and lost ALL of its magnets and the figurines many many years ago,I think that the Freakies charaters was far more popular than the cereal itself.

  • LOL! I loved those commercials. But I was always afraid to eat the cereal. Quisp was my ill. Anyone remember quisp?

  • Yeah, Quisp the space alien.

    How about his buddy Quake?

There were two versions of Quake. A grungy construction worker and then the "new improved" one dressed in bright white.

    I hated the second version.

But then again, I hated the cereal too.

  • Quisp didn't need to change. It was always the better cereal which is why he outlasted him and that orange kangaroo.

  • love this, just like when I was kid..Sounds like Burgess Merideth narrates these.

  • Burgess narrated the first one. Bill 'Bullwinkle' Scott did Grumble

  • Thanks for the info :>)

  • Awesome. When I was a wee squirt, Snorkledorf and Grumble were my favorite TV characters. Thanks for posting!

  • Ahh the good ol days. I loved Freakies.

  • I wonder, I wonder, I wonder,

    who grew the Freakies Tree?!

(30 years went by and I still

    wonder, wonder, wonder!)

  • Factoid nobody will care about: Goody-Goody in her Carmen Miranda fruit hat - few people know this but Carmen Miranda was NOT Hispanic or Spanish. She was actually Portuguese. Google it! :D

  • Was she from Brazil?

  • God I remember the song in that third one!

  • I remember the Freakies from my childhood. It looks like they're having the good life living near that tree.

  • Thank you for posting the video. I have been looking for this for a long time. I was 3 in 1974 and these commercials are my oldest memory!

  • I'll put up the other half of the video soon...it has an interview with the creator of the Freakies...pretty cool.
