I can't believe George Lucas would even call Episode 3 Titanic in space. Flash back to the set of making Phantom menace where he was bitching about Titanic and how another director was making more money than him. Titanic was far more interesting than anything that happened in any of the three prequels.
@LivinWorstNightmare They're simple popcorn flicks. They're not entirely bad films--just entertainment cinema as prequels to the original series. James Cameron may be a better director than Lucas, but he will never be as inventive or as creative--nor has he or will he ever make anything as classic as the original Star Wars films.
@LivinWorstNightmare To me, Titanic was just long, stressful hours of dull, two-dimensional characters chilling out on a boat. It's almost torture how long you have to wait for the ship to hit the iceberg and these annoying folks to die already...I'd much prefer watching Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, a film with special effects superior to anything I've ever seen in cinema--and also a film that takes you on a trip through the cosmos, but teaches you something new every trip.
@terratrema He likes Boormans early films like Deliverance and Point blank. But exosist 2 is the film he thinks is the worst movie ever made. He has admited recently this is the reason he had a of of hate towards Boorman. There is a youtube clip he made about his feelings towards Boorman somewhere.
@terratrema Deliverance is great. Point Blank is one of those very typical late 60s pretentious films with fancy intercutting and irritating and unnecessary zoom shots and without much to say (although Marvin rocks).

All this Boorman-bashing... I dunno.
Does this mean that Kermode doesn't like Deliverance or Point Blank? He'd better, 'cos they're two of the greatest films ever and everything.

I've always thought that Deliverance and Zardoz would make an interesting crossover.

Boorman sucks but The General is quite good. If only for Brendan Gleeson.

I think The Phantom Menace was the real Titanic, except with TItanic there were a few survivors...
