  • Gets on my nerves when people say this member was more important then the other... Well you know what Otis is the one that started the group Blue is the one that gave them the sweet bass and he brought in paul and eddie Paul without him they probably wouldnt have been signed and had the best dance moves.Eddie was always optimistic, had that great voice (all of them do), and they wouldnt have the hits that they had Each main member of the Temps is just as important as the next..The Temps Forever!

  • The groups' biggest hit is My Girl, that was sung, by David Ruffin, Not by anyone else.

  • @idlefonzo201

I beg to differ. There are plenty of songs from the temptations that are extremely popular, like almost all of them. not sure what you are going on about.

  • @idlefonzo201 "My Girl" is their best remembered song, but in terms of sales and airplay, "I Can't Get Next to You" was their biggest hit.

  • Why must we argue about who was the "heart" or "soul" of the Temptations ? We should all just appreciate that each member made the group so successful , no one person was more important than the rest . Sit back and just enjoy the music guys .

  • @QueenBee2314 Amen!!

  • @sexymarshmellowbunny Agreed ( :

  • I must say not only were they great performers but they were handsome too.

  • without eddie or david the temptations would have gone nowhere im sorry to say it but its true i only like the original temptations with david ruffin otis williams paul williams melvin franklin and eddie kendricks

  • @Black2Dawn remember that Eddie and Paul where on their own, so was David, and not of the groups made it, so as much as i acknowledge that Eddie and David had cool voices, you have to agree that they made success as the group not as individual, and that my friends has to be credit given to Otis, for the foresight and brilliance in putting successful Temptations line-ups time after time no matter who left the group. Props to otis

  • No microphones, huh?

  • maybe but Eddie's voice was the Tempts trademark in a way. Damon Harris was the only one who sounded like Eddie. Notice Eddie has the more successfull solo career. Not David or Dennis.

  • They all are great...The Tempting Temps.....but Dennis voice is just awesome, powerful...luv me sum him....Eddie's voice smooth as usual but Dennis, yeah.

  • This song describes my life at the moment :/

  • THIS GROUP IS THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT!!!!

  • Chica Boom, Chica Boom Boom, so much fun, perfect (but missing the beginning :). Always like this song since it was released

  • U see how SMOOOTH Paul's dance flow is compared to the rest to them? Esp. from :15 - :22...so smooth. I know he had problems but don't we all? He brought it STRONGLY vocally and with the moves in every performance I've ever seen. Remember, if not for Paul, the Tempts probably would not have been signed to Motown. Paul shared his incredible gift with us, & left it for us to enjoy indefinitely, as did Ruffin, Kendricks, Otis, and Melvin. We should stop the insults and thank God for the TEMPTS.

  • @dienglee well said!

  • "I - - can turn your grey skies to blue..." lol..

  • @sargesw I can tell ur young. It was 1970 they barely cood take videos in color , what makes you think they are lip "syncing" lmao

  • I just love them, great dancer, singer and looking so good....best group ever..........

  • 1:43-1:46 cool

  • the lip synching is hilarious

  • @sargesw They were definitely not lip synching. Don't you know the song? This is defininitely not the original version. It is much slower that this. They are singing this live.

  • @dienglee they could've sped it up

  • @90BKisaiah No, that's not it. I've been listening to the original for about 40 years. I listen to it about 20 times a week along with most of the Tempts songs; this is not the original. There are many obvious differences in tones, instrumentation, pace, etc. Now that being said, it could be a recording from a previous live performance to which they are lip synching, but I don't think so. They don't appear to be lyp synching at all to me.

  • @sargesw I think they're lip-syching to a pre-recorded track. This definitely isn't the actual record.

  • search bolder gazet van antwerpen

  • Otis was the only one who couldn't sing very well.

  • @sixstoriesfall Just because his voice isn't as remarkable as the rest of the Tempt's it doesn't mean he's a poor singer by any means.

  • eddie kendricks voice :)))))))))))))

  • I'd like to say this is them at their peak, but probably an overstatement. I will say this is the definition of earthly perfection. One of their trademarks was their stark masculinity, and it comes through so clearly here. Everything from the confident lyrics, strong voices, precise dance moves, tuxes -- it all comes together for this uber manliness that is beyond sexy. Thanks guys!

  • Eddie Kendricks is sooooo cute I've olny seen one video with him actually frowning.

  • Dennis is sure great but David and Eddie were the hearts of the Temps

  • @skipper8257 I agree David was the Man!

  • The staging is great.

  • Lovin the sound quality and video. Thanks for bringing me back . I'm bringing up our son to love music of all genres. I'm a Detroiter so, naturally he'll have to know about the great artists of Motown. lol thanks again. : ) he wants to hear it again.

  • You can see Paul's face all puffed up from alcohol abuse...very sad

  • @marianguitarchick1 Paul was sick from Sickle Cell, he use alcohol to mass the disease. Why they kept that out the movie is a mystery.

  • paul williams on his left and otis on his right otis had taht soft tenor lead

  • who's the one in the very back? otis? :)

  • lol 0:39 melvin is so silly i love watching him on stage

  • @theoldschoolfool1 I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the comedy in this! LOL

  • i love how all their voices are unique, even david, even though he's not on this

  • i luv this song i remember sing this when i was in kiddy care den my mother she use to tell me don't tuch that high fi'

  • The most powerful group of all time.

  • I remember watching this as a kid on T.V. !!!!

  • Dennis has soo much power and soul in his voice. The man can sing! And Eddie Kendricks with his usual good looking smiling face and beautiful falsetto voice puts the icing on the cake, along with Paul, Melvin, and Otis, even though this is the period when Paul started drinking and you can somewhat tell. This is the classic Temptations minus the fantastic voice of David Ruffin. But Dennis stepped right in on lead and helped win them their first Grammy.

  • Who the heack sung in the begginning of the song the light skin guy with the nice voice. I've been looking it up al night. He was the guy in the middly wehat is his name!! He's awesome please tell me!

  • @antmantis1 Dennis Edwards.

  • This the one where paul was drunk! I knew it was somwhere on youtube

  • These dude are just too damn smooth! I think I've watched this about 100X's today! Much respect to the Tempts!

  • I guess they felt obligated to give Otis a small part. Great song.

  • OK, there are several live versions of this song on Youtube. Do not be fooled by imitations! THIS is the version you want!

  • each of their voices are soo unique!!!!!

  • one of the reasons i love this song is it showcases EVERYONES voice...they were all powerful singers. but this will go down as one of my all time favorite Temptations songs because of the way it makes me want to move when i hear it played so many years later i can never get enough

  • if you went by the movie you'd be confused as heck watching this. they made Otis caramel skinned in the movie and blue dark skinned when it's the other way around.

  • 11 people just flat out have shitty taste in music.

  • Awesome Temps!!! This Song is FUNKTASTIC!

  • Yea tierra I meant otis....my fone wrote wat it wanted to write lol

  • Paul drunk as hell but still dancing his natural ass off. God bless that man, Paul Williams was no fucking joke. DAMN!!! THE GREATEST DANCER THE TEMPTATIONS EVER HAD!!!

  • @GarwinEugeneW ..I thought it was just me that saw that...he is twisted!!!! still love it!

  • @ladyred307 Oh yeah, compared to Otis at 0:15 Paul looks like he is floating, gliding in a rhythmic motion while Otis is just moving there.

  • Feann u cn hear every1 but iris! I dnt think he ever did sing solo lol

  • @AriesLady10 do you mean Otis???

  • @AriesLady10 its OTIS faggot. and hes the 1 that started the group. i cant think of the the name of the song, but he did. not a bad voice. and he was lead singer for otis williams and the distants

  • @bigjoemcCOY I'm pretty sure he wasn't The lead singer for the Distants, but rather a natural band leader (as he has been in the Tempts). The song you're thinking of is probably "Don't Send Me Away", which is by no means one of their biggest hit, but a nice number. Although unremarkable, Otis as a pleasant and capable singing voice.

  • @MagnusTheSnake ,no, he did lead on songs while with The Distants, either two or three songs. Yeah, Dont Send Me Away is just an album filler, a very good album filler, imo

  • This was always one of my favorites because you get a chance to hear everyone's voice.

  • you can see paul williams was sick, dam booze..rip paul

  • @tryby12 right but watch at 0:14 when he & Otis are dancing compared to Otis see how much rhythm Paul has in his moves way more than Otis does. he may have been drunk but his dancing was always on point. he was The Temptations best dancer ever.

  • my favorites were melvin and dennis

  • they said I can make it rain whenever I want tooo the orginal rain makers! yeah yeah

  • One of the only times Otis gets a close up singin Great

  • One of them is david Ruffin.

  • @dorfliedot David Ruffin had left the group by this time and he was replaced by the guy in the middle named Dennis Edwards.

  • dennis has one helluva voice! omg.

  • @kedeeky I agree! WOW! I know people love to praise David Ruffin....but in my opinion Dennis Edwards jus might heve the most powerful, soulful, strongest, SANGINGEST voice EVER!

  • @dienglee i wholeheartedly agree. i was talking to a friend the other day about it, and we've come to the conclusion that in the same way that things happen for a reason, dennis' part in the group came at a time when a powerful voice was needed for the content of their songs. david was best suited for the crooning songs i think. dennis could make you wanna get up and go do something about SOMETHING even if you didn't know what the hell it was lol.

  • @kedeeky Yes, David was fine for the Smokey songs; but Norman Whitfield needed more power from the lead vocalist when he took over. Whitfield got david to Raise it a bit with 'Ain't too Proud to Beg' & 'I'm Losing You', But Dennis brought that forceful, Southern preacher, thunderous vocal style which made you stand up and listen; while at the same time, displaying incredible singing ability and range. We all have our preferences & I definitely prefer Dennis, (& Paul Williams too) over David.

  • @dienglee couldn't say it better myself! SOUL!!

  • @dienglee it is strong and very debatable argument........they both brought it

  • @dienglee David Ruffin put the temptations on top, while i agree Edwards kept them there. david was the heart of the temptations. his voice was very soulful while edwards mostly screamed.

  • @Monstermack40 No, PAUL WILLIAMS was the heart of Temptations. Paul definitely is the reason they were signed by Motown. Paul gave his heart and soul and finally his life to them. If by heart you mean being given the chance of a lifetime by Paul, Otis, Eddie, and Melvin, then showing his appreciation by missing rehersals, meetings, & concerts, then demanding separate, top billing above the 4 founding members, then yes David was the heart. &, Look at David's post-Temptation success....garbage.

  • is it me...or does otis williams look like big daddy kane?

  • @creepweirdo123 Melvin looks like a black Steve Bucemi!

  • Awww then why didn't you, Melvin....:'( RIP Melvin, Eddie, Paul, and David. Long live the Temps! Simply legends.

  • Mono. That's the only thing I'd change about this. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a #badassjam.

  • My friend and I live next door to a family full of brothers and sisters, and my we still have our old 1970's era stereo. So now and then we put on our old temps LP's and rock the place. Its priceless to see the brothers when we are playing this classic music(we grew up on it) You see we are both white boys who have listened to this music all our lives, and we dont care about color of skin only quality of heart and soul. Too bad the rest of the world can figure out what me and jeff have.

  • i can do ALL these things they listed!! xD

  • I love melvin's face at 0:40, I just adore it. And I absolutly love Paul's original voice (:

  • this is the ringtone from drew in the movie elizabethtown :D

    I Love this song

  • i love this but that one guy with the high voice scares the s*** out of me

  • @TheLactatorr thats Eddie Kendricks i cpmpletely agree with u XD

  • This is the old school way baby. LOVE IT.

  • Yes, indeed!!!! The BEST of Motown!!!

  • This is a live performance on Ed Sullivan show! Paul was on point and Eddie had already been " hanging" with Ruffin. They were in the group together duh lol even though this is just a little after Ruffin was removed and Paul alcoholism hadn't taken it's toll yet. Richard isn't singing baccground behind the curtains lol

  • Eddie with that Angels voice!

  • diz is after david ruffin was kiked out?

  • @tutagun yea.........

  • Just brilliant.

  • Suacide

  • @emmettk wrong Richard street did actually sing for paul in Peter years because of his like for alcohol, then he eventually became a member of the group because Paul.

  • eddie kendricks is the best

  • Whatever personal troubles these guys were enduring, they were the epitome of class. They gave so much to us fans. RIP guys you are loved and missed! Thanks for posting this video.

  • I've seen some comments about this being lip-synched- this was live. Somebody said Richard Street was singing Paul's part- also wrong. That was in the movie and it did occur, but not here.

  • Their dance moves are simply FANTASTIC. Love this.

  • Here I join 422 like-minded people who feel this is the "proper" version of this song...the 11 dislikes? Al Green cover lovers -

  • My god they were good. Such class is unheard of today.

  • thank God for youtube, I wouldve never known about this group! :)

  • Eddie is high as a kite!! He must have been hangin with Ruffin' by then.....

  • @ididcramsmom how can you tell?

  • They are the greatest group of all time.My fact that was from the Ed Sullivan show his shows was live Meaning No Lip Synching.IMO Paul wasn't Drunk and his singing and dance steps proved it but if he was only four would been on stage.

  • i really really love Blue!!! I love those big beady eyes so much

  • These guys were rushing through it (almost lounge-like) to a pre-recorded vocal track AND IT STILL DRIPS WITH HARD-EDGED R&B. What a group! What a sound!

  • Paul is fucked up on this, he's off cue i can tell he's drunk

  • damn otis cant sing worth shit aha!

  • as great as mister ruffin was dennis edwards is by far superior..... plus they really kicked it durin the psycedelic soul era

  • Does anyone have an actual clip of Paul performing drunk on stage?? Or was that just a dramatization for the movie?

  • @Monaray1 look up the performes on cloud nine with the stairs he was drunk then

  • @Monaray1 check out "ball of conusion" live, where they are wearing orange suits. he was so drunk his eyes were barely open

  • for the 10 ppl who dislike this, nobody will get next to you!!!

  • Haha Melvin looked happy they whole time. His abnormally happy singing expression was adorable! :D It's funny cuz he doesn't look like he would sing bass. Idk why.

  • Dennis is cute & cn blow, Blue looks like my ex creepy..., Eddie looks like a happy-ass phsyco killer, Paul is nt cute but nigga cn sing panties off(lmao). 1:16 to 1:21 omg Otis cnt sing, tho he's nt badd-lookin. "I cn make tha seasons change jus by wigging my hang"(lmao).

  • @cami725 LOL leave my boo eddie alone

  • wow i fail at spelling lol.

  • I love the tempgations but i still agree that David Ruffin was their best lead singer.

  • To all you Georgia Bulldogs fans and Carolina Panthers fans (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when John Kasay came into the world.

  • damn paul looks LOADED!!!!!

  • hahaha. nice.

  • sound?

  • Love- Love - Love (The Temptations) This song is Awesome, as r the many others!

  • u can tell that wasnt paul singing

  • u can tell that wasnt paul singing

  • @TheCookiej1991 sorry sweety but that was paul singing all his parts

  • geezus otis' solo part was terrible

  • eddie was real happy when paul was around...

  • it was indded a real pleasure meeting Mr. Otis Williams at the show at Hershey,Pa. one night i was so honored. ty 4 the cool autograph Otis nd i also got to meet the Temps.wonderful awsome men!

  • pauls not singing this its richard street, paul was drunk this number

  • @Jacksons595- no..

  • @Jacksons595 He doesn't look like anything is wrong with him on this number. Looks like he is singing and dancing well, but who knows. I think unlike the movie portrayed Richard Street gave Paul a break from singing so that he could concentrate on the moves due to fatigue from the sickle cell. I wasn't there though but I wish I was. I luv the temps with their problems and all.

  • Never the same group when David Ruffin left...end of

  • The greatest male vocalist group of all time. No lip syncing here like todays crappy singers.

  • IF these guys had been promoted right, say for example like Diana Ross, they could have been Motown's answer to The Beatles. I absolutely love the Temps. My all time favorite Motown band. Give me this kind of R&B over what passes for R&B these days.

  • @GonzoGuyy Oh totally. I think the Tempts were to R&B/Soul to what the Beatles were to pop and rock. They're stuff is timeless and can never be done again...they were just amazing. But Gordy had a thing for Diana Ross so he pushed to have them be top notch among white audiences. It is a shame, because the Tempts were so much more than the Surpremes in my opnion...he could have made a better business move :/

  • one of my very favorite bands and one of my very favorite songs!

  • To all you Georgia Bulldogs fans and Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers fans (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when John Kasay came into the world.

  • Dennis Edwards is my all-time favorite voice for the power and feeling he puts into the songs. I got to meet Dennis and Eddie in 1990 and, of course, will never forget that day.

  • good song

  • we had fun playing this in the studio

  • eddie kendrix creeps me out in this

  • @kit457 omg! you had me cracking up w/ this comment. i couldn't even watch the vid cuz of your post. I LOVE EDDIE but he does look like a psycho killer. Their dancing is always gr8 but this makes me think they were on LSD or something when they did they're dancing for this performance. again, Funny comment

  • which one is otis, i know kendrix and blue

  • @kit457 @ 1:17 he saysi can make the sessons chang just by waving my hand

  • @CLOCZ209 that's why Otis NEVER sang, even though it was his group. lol

  • This is Music!! We will never hear this in music again..

  • Maaannn, I hate to say it, but Paul DOOEES look drunk in this video.. just like the movie (sniff, sniff) po Paul...

  • dennis edwards is great but i don't understand why they didn't bring paul williams back up front when ruffin left. williams had an awesome voice. these guys were the best.

  • @satansgoalie- Paul was amazing, please don't get me wrong, but do you truly think he could have taken the lead role at this point in time? My understanding is that he was starting to get sick when they made this. I have to be one of the very few people who really think Dennis was a perfect fit..

  • Can some1 tell me who's who?? I know names but I don't know faces.

  • @32DaBeast from left to right: Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams, Dennis Edwards, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks

  • @dynamite8503 u right bro

  • Comment removed

  • @dynamite8503 , Correcto. Dennis Edwards took David Ruffins place. Then one by one people started dropping off for one reason or another...The only original still living is Otis Williams. They were so good.

  • Comment removed

  • SOOOOO TRUE!

  • the temps were great but not so good at lip synching....

  • The only reason I can fathem of why God put me in the time period of Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber and Kesha is so someone could appreciate actual music like The Temptations. Oh, the struggles of being a teen in this day and age.

  • This is Eddie's falsetto, but when he sang "Get Ready" and "the Way You Do the Things You Do" it was more of his tenor, regular singing voice cus this sounds way higher pitched and in those other songs he doesn't sing exactly like the record, it sounds off.

  • The guy with the high voice is amused at the lip syncing situation. I LOVE these guys

  • I tell u what Dennis Edwards was just as passionate, soulful moving, and into it as Ruffin was

  • I like that all five temptations take turns singing, but Dennis Edwards is awesome!

  • i agree Otis messed up the talents Al Bryant David Ruffin Paul Williams Eddie Kendricks Damon Harris Richard Street' Leonard Dennis Edwards!!! Dennis Ruffin adn Eddie are the VOICE of the Temptations Ali Woodson etc AND HE CANT SING
  • you can tell that they're not lip-syncing when you listen to Otis's solo part . . . .
