  • Sounds way better than the Audis!

Although I have a preference for Petrol cars, I love diesels too.

  • i love how the guys on top gear tv show bag out diesel powered cars, but for the last 3 or so years in a row a diesel powered car has won the 24rs of le mans

  • @brutformen And I love... I hate how this situation has made people think diesel is suddenly somehow superior technology _on a race track_. You need need to think about what are the biggest issues with diesel engines in a racing use and then take a 5 second look at the regulations to see how they (ACO) avoided these these issues by giving a huge performance advantage to diesel.

Diesel is great on road cars but only thning connecting them to Le Mans are car manufacturers' press releases.

  • Ace recovery at 00:17

  • best diesel car ever

  • He should try the two-step just for shits and giggles.

  • Gear Selection and spacing could use major work, he's driving it as if it was a wimpy gas engine, Use the TORQUE man!

  • Peugeot has the car but not the experience, to win le mans!

  • LOL

They won in 92 and 93

  • +1 from what I saw. 92/93, 15 years ago? Um... a lot has changed in 15 years Zeopn

  • Comment removed

  • Watch Le mans 09 , peugeot are winning with 2 cars (at 5 hours of the end) and if it didnt win the 2 last years it's cause of a lack of luck.

    next time dont comment bullshit

  • its sounds maybe hard.. but its verry soft at lemans.. i dont realy like the diesel's its unfair:P

  • sound wise it the audi R10

Proformance wise i did chose the 908

  • made in france ^^

  • its all areodinamics a closed cockpit car can gain a couple tenths to a seconed on le mans alone. that just shows how good the r10 is. just thing of the audi r12

  • They designed it closed cockpit because the le mans regs are changing to closed cockpit prototypes in a few years, but they didnt do it for the R10 because those regs hadent been released at the time

  • I know you're post is 7 months old... but currently and for some time already it has looked like in future open cockpits will still be allowed. At least until 2010 or 2011.

  • ..and not only 2010/2011 but beyond that. I think ACO is going to releave some guide lines what to expect beyond 2010 regs during this week, before Le Mans race...

  • um i dont think they are going to make an r12 because it's too heavy of an engine. so the best tuning and power to weight ratio is better on the r10. it goes the same in formula 1 cars that's why most of the cars are v10's and v8's

  • the engines in f1 are v10's and v8's because of FIA mandates. I don't think the teams would have chosen to switch to a 2.4 liter v8 from 3.0 v10's and voluntarily freeze all engine development for the next few years.

  • what i dont understand is why is this car a full cockpit car and the race car is an open cockpit car. Is this just testing of a concept car? but yes audi did win but that is because the new tdi motors pull very hard and they are very fast out of the hole and down the long straights. on the narrower american circits the more nimble cars tend to do better, if audi had a more nimble car with tdi motors it would be unbeatable

  • The actual car was a closed cockpit that went to lemans. But it doesn't matter the R10 is unbeatable just like the R8 was.

  • Guess what guys? Audi won again. One of the Peugeot 908s had a gearbox problem and retired.

  • privateers gave audi the only challenge in 2005 and 2006. they had a fraction of audi's budget.

  • Im guessing Villi was driving this test lap?

  • at least it was the fasted down the mulsanne at 339kph but some claim that it could have hit 355 if it had been dry at lemans.

  • peugeot lost the race in the first corner when it went wide.

  • It has a ripping engine! Odd to actually HEAR this diesil when i'm used to those Audi's windmakers.

The race should be VERY close; the test laps for P1 was 908, R10, R10, 908.

  • they are audi fakers

  • Grow a brain dorkus.

  • Ce serra interessant comme la Peugeot court contre la Audi. (It will be interesting how the Peugeot runs against the Audi.)

  • in response to GTLgamer, my mistake.lol. I did read in Motor Trend that supposedly it does have more horsepower than the R10. I still like the R10 better but Audi has some major competition. it'll be a sight to see them compete :).

  • dizelmi bu???

  • Best sounding diesel engine ever

  • This car is fantastic, like the old 905 in the group c

  • its fast but the audi has over 650 horsepower and over 800 lb. feet of torque. and it udndersteers a bit. so it may keep pace with the Audi but not for long.

  • ok, but this peugeot here has 700 hp and a little bit more torque than the audi... i think it would beat the audi r10 tdi, because france is just the "diesel-nation", i mean, they build the best and most advanced diesel engines

  • The only reason the Peugeot has an extra 50 horsepower is that the ACO let them use a bigger air restrictor to compensate for both the higher center of gravity the closed cockpit creates and for the air conditioning system.

Considering Peugeot didn't race at Sebring, I don't think they're ready for the reliability issues at Le Mans.

  • You do realise that Peugeot took part in the 24 Hour Paul Ricard test?

  • A test is not a race.

  • They ran race pace though ;)

  • Well lets see, one of them didn't finish, and the #8 parked in the Ford Chicane because the gear box would not have survived another lap.

  • FUCK DA CHAUVISNIM !!!

    "C'est Peugeot les plus forts!"

"Nan c ATR les plus forts pasq moi chuis Englais!"

"Et moi chuis Américain alors c Ford les plus plus forts!"

"Ah nan c Audi qui va gagner ! NANANEREUUUUUU !!!"

Pouahaha... mais fermez vos grosses gueules de gamins!!! Et apprenez humblement à apprécier l'évolution de chaque constructeur!

    Ptain de chauvinisme de merde...

  • Peugeot and Audi don't build their own tubs. They have ATR in Italy do it. Plus, the P1 regs give 37 PERCENT more displacement to turbodiesels than turbo'd gasoline engines. Why? I hope Pescarolo, the Charouz Lola/Judd, and the Courage LC70s keep them on their toes this year.

  • Indeed. Diesel engines at le mans have a huge advantage, clearly the organization wants them to dominate. You can't imagine how I enjoy the little Porsche RS Spyders LMP2 in ALMS owning the LMP1 Audis :)

  • Damn thats fast, this should be a good match up against the R10

  • Looks ugly and cheap, also coming from a company that was completely miserable in F1 and gave little value to partnership with Prost, while ALSO manufacturing crappy road cars... isn't a major plus.

I'd like to see competition with Audi, but I definitely don't want and really don't see Peugeot win. Unless they actually learn how to manufacture a propper motor car :P

  • Cheap ?? Man you are underestimating Peugeot. They are not here to watch, but to win. Except in Formula 1, they succeeded in every competition they raced into : Le Mans, Pikes Peak, Dakar, WRC, Touring Cars... They won't probably win this year at Le Mans, as they are here to learn, and Audi already has a year of experience with the diesel technology, but in 2008, they will be very strong.

  • Ignorant! In all kind of racing: Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, no one of them has even the half of titles of Peugeot. Except F1 (only motorist) they won all what they raced (they built the whole car).

I have a Peugeot 306DT (250000kms), and had a 205 1,1l (more than 500000kms), without any problems. They are reliable. I also own an Audi A4 (200000kms), it's a very good machine. Audi should win this year, Peugeot comes to learn. But next year, Peugeot will trust the podium, like in 1993.

  • I'll agree about Audi and Mercedes. Audi is the 3rd most successful marque only in le mans. They were successful in rallying too but for a very short bit of time. But NO ONE comes even slightly close to Porsche. To give you a hint, most wins all round for a marque goes to Porsche with 28000 wins and second to Ferrari with just 7000... Peugeot is nothing in front of Porsche and to be frank... THEY EVEN STOLE THE RACECAR NAME! :P

  • PSA won WRC manufacturers championship 6 years in a row 2000-2006. They know how to build a car.

  • that car is extremely lightweight..

  • What an awesome machine. Red and white concept one looks kind of crappy because of the headlights.

  • That thing takes a long time to get on boost. I'm still going with audi.

    IMHO-This one sounds better!

  • Fabulous looking machine no doubt, love closed cockpit prototypes. Unfortunately I loathe diesel cars, specially in competition. No matter how fast and technically brilliant, a racing car sounding like a vacuum cleaner on steroids and changing gears at a dizzying 4K revs is rather sad for motorsport... IMHO of course :-)

  • Why?

  • cant wait to race them in gt5

  • americans car suck in lemans!!!! the european car rules!!! go audi! go peugeot! cadillac? cadillac is a gansta car! pachucos!!! jajja, fucking norteamericans! Hi From Argentina!!

  • fuck the Peugeot 908 and the Audi. Everybody thinks Audi is unstoppable with thier diesel car. You let Panoz get a taste at diesel and watch out. The 5.9 liter Cummins ISC 6 cylinder diesel, when tuned right, can crank out nearly 900 pound feet of torq and well over 650hp and all under 3,000 rpms. You let Panoz and Cummins team up or Cadillac with Detroit Diesel or CAT and see how the Audi and Peugeot would get their asses handed to them by a killer diesel powered Panoz LMP.

  • yeah, wich weighs like a truck and hasn't got the top-end power of the peugeot and the audi. Youre talking rubbish mate

  • Cummins ISC alone weighs more than the car--would never be competitive in road racing. CAT tried LeMans 2 years ago with a rebadged VW V10 TDI. Did rather well, considering their budget.

  • Yeah your really really sure if Panoz would beat audi and peugeout. In your dreams, i never seen a panoz winning a le mans race and they will never win le mans

  • They said the samething bout other American car companies not winning Le Mans until Ford came in with the GT40 and kicked everybody's asses. Ford along proved that even the great Euro companies can be beat if we choose to do so. You jus wait...Chevy already proved it with those Vettes and Dodge also with their Vipers.

  • excuse me but can't you actually count how many times that Europe companies won the le mans and kicking ford's ass. Let see if you can answer to that?

  • listen man...da first time Ford put out the GT40,it kicked everybody's asses it's first race and put out a 1/2 finish many times before Ford withdrawn the GT40. The race Corvette C5Rs did that same thing followed by Dodge's race'in Viper GTS's so dont under estimate American manufactors cause if they really wanted too, they can and will make a car that'll make yalls Euro V10s and V12s cry!

  • Yeah....... listen carefully for what i'm going comment america only won the le mans 4 times and europe won 60 times. So what if america really tries it's won't win this year le mans race.

  • Yeah....... listen carefully for what i'm going comment america only won the le mans 4 times and europe won 60 times. So what if america really tries it's won't win this year le mans race. ............................... LOL ummm ahhhh why does that matter this is a french car ????

  • acctually it took like 4-5 years of development of the GT40 before it acctually finished / won Le Mans .... and the vettes and vipers are in the weakest division competition wise

  • Viper's and Vette's = Nascar

    European Sports Cars = F1

  • the Dodge Viper GTS-R helped revive GT racing in the 1990s. Also won 24 hours of spa, le mans, daytona, zolder, Nürburgring, etc. a team from denmark, markland racing, bought a new Corvette Z06 and is racing it in the Le Mans Series' GT2 class.

  • I love the smell of diesel in the afternoon. It smells like victory.

  • In the end, it's still a Pukegeot.

Audi will wipe the floor with their Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey asses.

  • Yeah- hate coutries that focus their efforts on science, engineering and diplomacy when they could be off blowing the arms off of Iraqi children.

  • NICE!

  • Diesel de merde, c'est triste pour les 24 heures.

  • the sound is awesome! can't wait to see/hear in person

  • oh god, i just came in my pants...

  • brave of peugeot to take audi head on

  • i wouldnt say it so loud with the motor: What do you say abou the Corvette or the Viper? They are serious racecars. if you mean the prototypes then its ok.

  • Nah not as serious as pegeout and audi and other LMPs but they are ok

  • Lamy is the best pilot!!!!

  • Nice deep bassy V12 sound, even better than the Audi's R10.

And so much nicer than the 20,000 rpm F1 vacuum cleaner sound. Maybe its time for a diesel F1 series?

  • this V12 is a 5.5 litre, in F1 however the maximum dicplacement is set to 1.5 litre.. you can never get 700 BHP (or 650 like the audi R10) out of a 1.5 litre diesel so i guess you won't see diesels in f1

  • The displacement in F1 is 2.4 liters.

  • If they allowed diesel in F1 I am sure they could allow a bigger motor and turbo, just like the LMP series.

To me, F1 motors just seem so irrelevant, who on earth has a 20000rpm motor in their car? But the V12 diesel from the R10 or the 908 could be used in any supercar and be very driveable.

  • I agree on a some points, but it is quite a bit heavier than a gasoline race engine. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to bring the weight down with time though.

  • They place the engine where it will allow for the lowest centre of gravity

  • I've understood the engines are in the middle to improve turning. You can test it with a pen and two pieces of blu-tack. Stick the pieces to the ends of the pen and twist it with your fingers. Then stick pieces closer to the center and try again. Now the pen should turn easier.

  • My god man of course the engine is in the middle, every serious race car ever had a mid engine layout.

Its still a heavy engine compared to say the Judd v10's used by Pescarolo. The Swiss Spirit team is using the gas engine from the Audi A8 in a lola chassis... Peugeot had better bring their A game. With 55 entries this is the largest LeMans grid in a long time, there's 19 entries alone in the LM-P1 class.

  • but it makes 850+ ft. lb's of torque.

  • VonVoltage, Not every serious race car. Some have been front-engined. As for the swiss spirit Lola, that car was utilizing a FSI Turbo-Charged V8 from the R8, not the A8.

  • The Puegeot 908 & The Audi R10 have the same diesel operated in them. This year's Le Mans 24 Hours is going to be worth watching.Exellent sound for the Puegeot 908.

  • The Peugeot 908 kicks ass. I love the sound :]

  • The Paris 908 Le Mans proto was not allow to take place with it's long (very long) windscreen and front "rabbit" nose, Peugeot needed to change the design so these is the result.

  • The actual car doesn't look half as good as the model shown in Paris promised to be and to tell you the truth I didn't expect anything better. I'm pretty sure Peugeot will dissappoint just as they did in F1 in a sore way :P

Though Audi seems pretty quiet and not doing anything to beef up the R10 coz I think it might have to =/

  • There actual car had to be redesigned to be faster and to be compliant to the rules.

  • I trust you, the R10 sounds also clunky in the same situation. Both are diesel in fact. But I prefer the Peugeot.

  • i still think the R10 sounds better (and will perform better is 2007), the 908 is an incredible machine but sounds a little too "clunky" when not in boost. Still the battle between these two amazing and advanced machines will be great to watch

  • why do you think that audi will peform better, they have 50 less horsepower, and if you kick away those stupid FAP filters from the peugeot, the 908 will even have more horsepower. i think audi's day's are numbered, just as in the rally sport where peugeot kicked theyre asses

  • I posted an R10 video and have seen the car in person at 2 different races. I also happen to own an old VW TDI, so as you can imagine, diesel race cars are of big interest to me. And I gotta say, this Peugeot sounds WAY better than the R10! This is an impressive machine. The coupe looks great as well!

Can't wait for Le Mans! The battle of the compression-ignition titans will be colossal!

  • OH MY GOD.

    *creams self*

  • Noise? That's *music*! SWEEEEEEET

  • Awesome!

  • Awesome. Even being a diesel, the noise it's good. Better than the R10 in this aspect. I wish it was the 24H of Le Mans now! The battle between Peugeot and Audi will be impressive, sure!
