All this happened over 10 years ago. Mike left Spin City in 2000 (end of season 4), because his Parkinson was making it very painful for him to act. But he did not want the rest of the actors and crew to lose the show, so he helped get Charlie Sheen on board to replace him. He even made a few cameos in season 6 to help them regain their ratings.
Michael J Fox suffers from Parkinson disease. The medication for this disease causes him to have less control over his movement and makes him move and spasm the way he does.
