Why do american riders ride "light" in dressage (what is the proper name)? We never do that, just while warming up and over poles. And they also got really short stirrups. And it seems like they are delibrately sticking their elbows out. (im not trying to be rude im just confused. And what is the deal with just trotting around in a ring??)
Not sure what "light in dressage" means ^^ But to answer the rest of your question, these are called "main ring" classes at an Arabian breed amateaur show. Judge calls for different gaits to be displayed on the rail (no patterns or obstacles) and depending on which class, the rider's equitation can be judged, or the horse's manners, or suitability of horse to rider. This is a mashup of many of those classes - adult and junior.
And because it's an amateur show, the elbows you see or any mistakes otherwise can be chalked up to none of the riders in this video being professional. The addage we all make mistakes applies :)

@mgk2bjp Haha I wasn't using a correct term because I don't know any "horse words" in english ;) I meant to go up and down in trot.
