@mrmegamaddude originally with First Great Western. FGW are getting 5 back for working on the Cotswold Line. As a guard on this line, I'm going to be trained on them! :-)
@douro20 Why should it need to be? It's a quiet, unused lane. If it was on a main road it should be a full barrier Level crossing but otherwise no, there is no need. I have worked on the rails for years and enjoy it a lot.
@YankeePat94 Thats because there's technically no need to blow the horn even though im a rail fan it is annoying for some locals and causes racket if it is blown all the time the lights flash and barriers go down u stop u dont need a horn for warning
@Cazkumali The Yellow light is similar to that of a Traffic Light. It means "Stop at the line unless to do so would cause an accident, you have or will cross the stop line before stopping. Hope this helps
Dude, just shut up. Just watch the train go by. If all you ever do on YouTube is try to make God believe that the Amber Light comes on the same time as the sound, then don't comment and just watch the video. It's my opinion. And my opinion is that Amber comes on first without sound, THEN red with sound. OK? And don't go commenting on my profile about this beacause it's just a waste of time and a piece of shit.
The correct sequence is, on the track circuit/treadle/plunger being activated the Yodalarm units sound and the yellow light appears for 3/4 seconds, this is to provide an audiable warning to peopl on the crossing. After 3/4 seconds the red lights flash alternatly, the alarm still sounding. The alarm can be silenced if there are barriers on entry and exit of the crossing and they are all closed, known as ABCL. the one on the video, and AHB and AOCL's alarms sound until the crossing is clear.
I've seen some older UK crossings with the same type of light system, but a steady ringing bell instead of a yodalarm. Those are the ones my mother remembers from when we lived in Gosport in the 1980s. When exactly did yodalarms come to be the norm?
Amber light is apparently an additional warning to road users that the crossing is activated. If the amber light is on and you can not stop safely, then go through. Much like a traffic light :P
thats what thoose bottom lights are for are they for an advanced warning and what kind of horn is that, in america the lighs just start flashing and the gates lower no warning and we just have a mecanical metal bell
the yellow light means "if you have speed, go over the crossing" when red turns on it means "stop". The bell is electronic and called a Yodalarm, the capture your attention faster.
The gate was all the way down at :24; the train was in the crossing at :39. Fifteen seconds is not a lot of time; I'd prefer 20. But it's more than I've seen at some crossings in the U.S., where it can be as little as ten, even with the gates and signals functioning properly.
I've seen videos of gates that went down 45 seconds or more before the train came. The problem with that much time, though, is that people may get impatient and try to cross the track just in time to get hit by the train. Twenty seconds is usually considered enough time to let motorists get out of the way safely, but not so much that they'll try to go around the gate after waiting what they think is too long.
yaeh theres a video called why trains crash blod on the tracks and they say anything ver 30 sec makes people impatient soo maby they should make the gates 29 sec delay
Here in the US we've got electronic bells now that sounds about like a regular bell, bit louder, and with all the advantages of electronic alarms. Far more pleasant. Netherlands does it that way, too. I actually like theirs better than ours.
They use electronic sounders because they are not liable to mechanical failure like bells are, for example, not working because of freezing. Electronic ones use less electricity as well, and can make more than one tone, which may be easier to hear.
They don't need to be really loud, as there are lights for road users, and the sound is loud enough for pedestrians; everyone should already be taking care near a level crossing, so I really don't see any reason for bitching.
Not bad! Verry good even! But the barrier noise is a bit boring.

@alexandermadden1987
It's called a Yodalarm, a signaling device first introduced in 1983 by Clifford and Snell Ltd. of Croydon, Surrey.
It's quite possibly the most popular type of alarm siren in the UK.
