  • Not bad! Verry good even! But the barrier noise is a bit boring.

  • как вы с такими живете??

  • And adelantes were made in Birmingham

  • Nice one. The Adelantes will be back soon.

  • If your not sure what class an adelante is it's a class 180 made in birmingham im not sure

  • it was a first hull train

  • @mrmegamaddude originally with First Great Western. FGW are getting 5 back for working on the Cotswold Line. As a guard on this line, I'm going to be trained on them! :-)

  • first i thought it was my pickup trucks alarm that went bananas. Nice one

  • how do you know theres a train coming before the lights flash and the barriers go down?

  • Do they never blow horns or whisltles anywhere in the UK?

  • @pgo1972 not usually no

  • @pgo1972 Only before foot crossings or when there's workers on the track.

  • how the hell is that a sprinter? thoes not box aint nothing like the sprinters

  • @CornishMorgan yeah youre right my error

  • @scruffwood 180102/103/104/106/108 are returning to FGW sometime BTW has clayfield got LED lights now or is it still with standard bulbs

  • @Cazkumali Sorry mate I dont know .I have not been back there since the double track was put in place, will go at some point though

  • Isn't it quite unusual for an HST to cross through a level crossing without full barricades?

  • @douro20 Why should it need to be? It's a quiet, unused lane. If it was on a main road it should be a full barrier Level crossing but otherwise no, there is no need. I have worked on the rails for years and enjoy it a lot.

  • Oh well. Each to their own.

  • great video! favourite!

adelantes might be coming back to the cotswolds! :D

  • @TheFlarmo Some of them do when the barriers down

  • Cool crossing! I love how the yellow light illuminates to warn drivers and pedestrians of approaching trains!

  • That is sounds like a smoke alarm than a bell

  • @alexandermadden1987

It's called a Yodalarm, a signaling device first introduced in 1983 by Clifford and Snell Ltd. of Croydon, Surrey.

It's quite possibly the most popular type of alarm siren in the UK.

  • @douro20 That's interesting

  • Anyone see the 11/1 ep of Eastenders?

    Sound familiar?

  • @yabbaguy Some Crossings sound the same silly! :-)

  • 4 barriers spotted at Pitsea Station

  • The train did not blow its horn. Here in the US, we have to blow their horns by law.

  • @YankeePat94 Thats because there's technically no need to blow the horn even though im a rail fan it is annoying for some locals and causes racket if it is blown all the time the lights flash and barriers go down u stop u dont need a horn for warning

  • @Cazkumali between Honeybourne and Evesham in the Uk

  • @scruffwood I wonder why on the alarm doesn't stop on AHB;S when the barriers have gone down

  • @Cazkumali I suppose its for safety eg a blind person would know that there is a level crossing there.Everything over here is all health and safety

  • @scruffwood What does the amber light mean?

  • @Cazkumali have alook at the comment by Digitalanalogue a few comments below this one that explains it all

  • @Cazkumali The Yellow light is similar to that of a Traffic Light. It means "Stop at the line unless to do so would cause an accident, you have or will cross the stop line before stopping. Hope this helps

  • @Cazkumali The yellow (amber) light means prepare to stop or proceed with caution.

  • @Cazkumali The yellow (amber) light means prepare to stop or proceed with caution and/or care. This applies to vehicles and pedestrians.

  • where does the sound come from at level crossings?

  • There is a Yodalarm on the rear of the signal

  • Adelantes aren't sprinters, 150/153/155/156/158/159 are Sprinters

  • is evesham in gloucestershire?

  • cool

the nearest level crossing to me is in stranssel or sumet like that in york

  • Wow what a nice crossing.

I quite like the amber light something I think that would be great here.

  • That level crossing dosent go like that. The yellow light first shows and THEN the sound plays when the red lights show.

  • well it obviously did that day

  • all crossings work the the alarms going off as the yellow light comes on

  • well this one is obviously a rebel and chose to different, good on him

  • All level crossing alarms sound when the Amber light comes on.

  • no i doesn't. the alarm sounds at THE SAME TIME AS THE AMBER LIGHT COMES ON.

  • Dude, just shut up. Just watch the train go by. If all you ever do on YouTube is try to make God believe that the Amber Light comes on the same time as the sound, then don't comment and just watch the video. It's my opinion. And my opinion is that Amber comes on first without sound, THEN red with sound. OK? And don't go commenting on my profile about this beacause it's just a waste of time and a piece of shit.

  • The correct sequence is, on the track circuit/treadle/plunger being activated the Yodalarm units sound and the yellow light appears for 3/4 seconds, this is to provide an audiable warning to peopl on the crossing. After 3/4 seconds the red lights flash alternatly, the alarm still sounding. The alarm can be silenced if there are barriers on entry and exit of the crossing and they are all closed, known as ABCL. the one on the video, and AHB and AOCL's alarms sound until the crossing is clear.

  • The level crossing inmPoole High Street (town centre) barriers come down about three minutes before the train goes past. now that is a long time

  • Like the level crossing in Lymington,if you,ve been to brockenhurst you should know where it is

  • Thats cos places like towns/cities have to have a delay due to density of traffic and pedestrians. in the country it doesnt have to be aslong

  • That sounds like the most perfect Yodalarm imaginable.

  • WOW. That was fantastic entertainment. Thanks! lol

  • I've seen some older UK crossings with the same type of light system, but a steady ringing bell instead of a yodalarm. Those are the ones my mother remembers from when we lived in Gosport in the 1980s. When exactly did yodalarms come to be the norm?

  • Yeesh; what's up with the amber light?

  • Amber light is apparently an additional warning to road users that the crossing is activated. If the amber light is on and you can not stop safely, then go through. Much like a traffic light :P

  • God that bell gets old

  • thats what thoose bottom lights are for are they for an advanced warning and what kind of horn is that, in america the lighs just start flashing and the gates lower no warning and we just have a mecanical metal bell

  • the yellow light means "if you have speed, go over the crossing" when red turns on it means "stop". The bell is electronic and called a Yodalarm, the capture your attention faster.

  • Very, a wonderful image.

  • fast train

  • The crossing did not give much time!

  • It was plenty enough to get out of a car and run away!

  • And its only half barriers so any1 who gets stuck as the barriers lower can go straight on.

  • The gate was all the way down at :24; the train was in the crossing at :39. Fifteen seconds is not a lot of time; I'd prefer 20. But it's more than I've seen at some crossings in the U.S., where it can be as little as ten, even with the gates and signals functioning properly.

  • Thats ludicrus it should be 45 sec

  • computersmasher posted:

"Thats ludicrus it should be 45 sec"

I've seen videos of gates that went down 45 seconds or more before the train came. The problem with that much time, though, is that people may get impatient and try to cross the track just in time to get hit by the train. Twenty seconds is usually considered enough time to let motorists get out of the way safely, but not so much that they'll try to go around the gate after waiting what they think is too long.

  • yaeh theres a video called why trains crash blod on the tracks and they say anything ver 30 sec makes people impatient soo maby they should make the gates 29 sec delay

  • first great western trains rock ecpesally thier higs speed trains

  • The Adelante's not a sprinter! But funnily enough, it uses the same engine.

  • Wow those burglar alarms are annoying.

Here in the US we've got electronic bells now that sounds about like a regular bell, bit louder, and with all the advantages of electronic alarms. Far more pleasant. Netherlands does it that way, too. I actually like theirs better than ours.

  • They use electronic sounders because they are not liable to mechanical failure like bells are, for example, not working because of freezing. Electronic ones use less electricity as well, and can make more than one tone, which may be easier to hear.

They don't need to be really loud, as there are lights for road users, and the sound is loud enough for pedestrians; everyone should already be taking care near a level crossing, so I really don't see any reason for bitching.

  • america sucks

  • What's America got to do with it?

  • nothing

  • the bell sound is very annoying. sounds like a car alarm. LOL

  • A lot of level crossings in Britain have the alarm silenced once the barriers lower.

  • I know but for some reason these ones don't because theres only one barrier.

  • I couldn't agree more. Why can't the UK crossing have regular bells like the US crossings?

  • Go and move there then if it's so important.

Why don't we have schools teaching creationism in science lessons like the US does as well?

  • I was born and raised in Massachusetts, not the UK.

  • A more appropriate question would be, why don't crossings elsewhere in the world use yodel alarms like the British ones.

  • @jph0917 Some do. They sound more reminicent of fire bells, but they have bells none the less.

  • Nice Video. Very steady arm. Well done!

  • Lovely video again, took me by surprise that adelante!

  • Thanks mate

  • sounds like our fire alarms at school lol :D

  • That "bell" is so annoying! I'll take the ding of an american bell any day.

  • Don't make fun of our yodalarms! They're better,

because we have less crossing accidents than the US.

  • ofcourse you guys have less crossing accidents than the US, your country is way smaller, so less crossings, so less accidents!!

  • Are these numbers pulled from thin air per capita, or per crossing, or just total?

  • whath?company use the track

  • pretty sure it is first great western

  • Slow alarms.

  • nice video
