Unions continuously break the country, and push jobs to China. Why? Well, Unions good a great job of keeping workers employed and overpaid. The good workers who deserve it, and the terrible lazy workers. I've worked with many lazy people who do what they please. Problem? Take it up with their union.
I love how teachers say they are not there for the money but, make an average of $70,000 a year here in NJ and complain when we ask them to contribute 1.5% to their benefits. Isn't that a joke? Not a funny one but still a joke.
I find it funny that the same teachers unions who whine about how broke their schools are someone have the funds to donate millions to the Democratic Party.
@CPDCFD Most people don't pay into 401k's because we pay the other 90.4% of your pension and 100% of your income on top of what we have to pay for our ss. Pay for my own expensive lawyer? The department of justice will pay for your lawyer. History 101? You mean in the depression when you were lucky to even have a job. Plus those were PRIVATE sector unions.
@CPDCFD Yeah you mean the govt bailout that left them only 50% of their shares that they have to pay for? The unions wanted those bailouts. It is very well documented. Private sector company owners can make how ever much they want, the difference is that the money the unions heads make is stolen from the private sector through collective bargaining rights and lobbyiest.
@CPDCFD If the DOJ gets involved it's a federal case numb nuts. They created a whole worker hotline so you can call and complain about your employer so they can get involved. No ones asking you to be a cop or firefighter puss flap, if you don't want to do your job then quit. No one ask's members of the military to do their jobs so why do they do it? They aren't doing it for the money that's for sure!
@CPDCFD Of course there not going to get involved in every single case jack wipe, They get involved when your civil liberties are being infringed on. @JKBBMF U.S. soldiers(Which include battle field paramedics and the like) work 24 hours a day 7 days a week and on average only make 17,000 per year fighting and dying for a country filled with people calling them baby killers. How the hell do you think they feel about their pay checks? Selfish assholes like you make me sick. You only think of yourselves and how much you are entitled to. This kind of selfishness is inconceivable.
@JKBBMF What division? My Brother was an AA until he got injured in combat back in 05. You don't become member of the military, a Fire fighter, or a paramedic for the money, it's a calling.
@therealist1057 17,000? what military are you in? I'm prior service and married to a military member now. We don't work 24 hours a day/7 days a week. base pay might be 17,000 for the lowest ranking but most pay is a lot more than 17,000. you are forgetting BAH, BAS, hazardous duty pay and all of the perks that go along with being military- 30 days paid leave a year, tuition assistance, GI Bill, full dental and medical. Military is sweet.
@bionicwaffleiron I was in the US Army Infantry. I figured out my total benefits to be 43k/year as an E4. And we did work 24/7, 7 days a week when deployed. Mortar rounds don't care if you're in the rack. Last time I checked, teachers don't have to worry about being killed, paralyzed, blinded, deafened, or suffer a TBI and become depressed, an alcoholic, or beat your spouse. Not whining. Just saying that we were all in the military, but the conditions were not the same for all service members.
@megatron515 i think teachers get paid enough too. this isn't to say that teachers deserve more than mil members. they don't. benefits for both are excellent. it's a volunteer force though so if someone doesn't think the pay is worth it, they don't have to sign up. my husband is a fire fighter and could die during a training exercise if something went wrong. He's also a volunteer on the outside- putting his life at risk for free. everyone would love more money but he's content.
@bionicwaffleiron Then I think you'll agree that nobody is holding teachers accountable for their performance. Since 1970 unions have regularly increased teacher salaries, but test performance has not changed until recently when they went down. Tenure gives senior teachers no need to excel since they've "made it" and it is almost impossible to fire a union teacher. Unlike the military, where I've seen 18 year CSM get booted for DUIs and promotions held back for PT scores. That is the difference.
@megatron515 I definitely agree on that. I don't really believe teachers have that much to complain about. They have some of the most cush job setups in the nation. Tons of time off. Spend most of the time sitting down, talking or doing paperwork. Have unbeatable benefits. Great pension plans. sounds closer to a politician but without all of the corporate money for campaigns...
@therealist1057 When I left the Navy as an E-4 in 2004 I was making $21,768 a year in just base pay. If you figure in sea pay and Submarine pay that came to $28,118 not too bad at 24 huh? Plus free housing and food. If it wasn't for the lack of liberty it might have been a sweet deal.
Everyone compares what firefighters make in California. They need to start looking in other regions. In the Tampa Bay area, the average starting pay for a firefighter is around 35k. Some pay into their own pension. Firefighters pay are going to be affected by the type and cost of living in those areas. Also a majority of firefighters are EMTs/Paramedics. Especially in Florida.

Hey greenhut this is what i want you to do...come to chicago go to any firehouse in the englewood, roseland, south chicago, south shore, the west side of chicago area and ride with us for 24 hours which means when that bell rings you better be ready to mask up and crawl down a hot and dark hallway of a house not knowing whats inside and where the hell you are...get burned on your face or any part of your body THEN tell us what we do is that easy....
@Kalforty Not to mention be called for a gang shooting with the shooter still on scene and there gang buddy's saying save my friend with a guy in there hand......NO our jobs are in the top 10 dangerous jobs....
Yeah Greenhut, like your job is so hard! You try being up all night at a fire, enduring extreme heat or cold or rain or snow, doing physical work in a hazardous environment! The worst you have to endure is the possibility of getting carpal tunnels at your computer. It' easy to sit in a comfy air conditioned or heated office or TV studio, and get to go home to your comfy bed and sleep all night! You have no clue what we do, and I doubt the balls to even come find out!
The argument that you receive pensions and benefits that are vastly superior to the average working person, at teh expense of the average working person is always combated not with facts, or reason, but an emotional plea that they are the ones who run into burning buildings and fight the bad guys.
That is what you are paid to do, and paid well, and you do not have to do it!
Be adults, realize that your benefits are not sustainable. America has!

The anti-social and borderline personality disordered split and divide. Hitler created an enemy and so do these unholy elements whose objective is to divide the people and concentrate wealth and power into the hands of a few. Mortality will visit this evil as surely as the poverty it creates in this world.
Walter Cronkite had no respect for Stossel. Cronkite versus Stossel..the distinction is so blatantly obvious. What has happened in the U.S. is that good people have been pushed out of leadership and the nefarious anti-social elements have replaced them. This assault on the peoples right to assemble conveniently ignores the trillions of dollars of socialism to the private banking cartel and the biggest union of them all the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
@CPDCFD All the company has to give you is a paycheck....nothing more. The days of Unions beating up boy scouts are over, and America is better off because of it
Well, police should get a pensions, depending on the risk of their job. I'm not arguing for obscene amounts, but police and soldiers should get pensions having served long enough. Other than police and the military, no one should get pensions from the government.
@groam6666 No Firefighter pensions? You're right.. There's no risk in firefighting. When I was making 50% lower than most working class americans I didn't complain. I knew that I would be safe and secure, and my wife and kids would be safe if something happened to me at work. All this happened while it was looked down on to be a government employee or "public servant". And yes, some people treated us like servants. Now that THOSE people are not making the money they were, misery loves company.
In ancient Rome, the army cohorts in the city of Rome were fire brigades, riot police, and body guards, and the first action most emperors took when coming to power was to bribe them with raises, better retirement plans, and handouts. If they didn't they risked losing their power and/or life, in fact there was a time where the Pratoreans auctioned off the position of emperor to the highest bidder.

This assault on the peoples right to assemble conveniently ignores the trillions of dollars of socialism to the private banking cartel and the biggest union of them all the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

@gopconservative78 You must be referring to the union called the United States Chamber of global commerce. Small business is growing wise.
