  • 1:43 is so heart breaking.

  • Okay, I think it's great and wonderful that he got the implants, but did anyone else notice that they are higher than his front paws. I think it makes his walking uncomfortable. He has to be even.

  • @WadeConde Don't worry, the engineers, and the surgeon, who designed these feet know a lot more about physics, engineering and cat anatomy than you :)

It's important to understand that cats don't walk like you imagine them to do. I won't bother you with the details; let's just say their hind limbs are specialized and not like their front limbs, it's what makes them able to jump and land softly from heights.

  • How Wonderful! Bless Oscar's heart and his amazing fabulous vet!

  • All the Very Best to you OSCAR Darling...

  • 0 dislikes, hell yea!

  • Could someone tell me the song that plays after 1:40 - I really want to learn it.

  • surgical high-five!

  • "He's not supposed to do that" Which is why he did it, as any cat owner can vouch for lol!

  • wow

  • Interesting. Anyone know if there are any medial papers on this, or any journal papers at all? I'm really curious what they did to allow the medal to bond with organic tissue like that.

  • @EndGameOmega The surgeon seemed to suggest that there's something different about the tissue of a cat that will allow it to bond with metal, rather than human tissue, which won't. Maybe the difference could be studied and used on humans...maybe.

  • i think this is an amazing vet. He took a cat who would have had to been put down and give him a new lease of life. I give it years until this new technology is used on humans.

  • @IIIEm New tech...as in bionic limbs?

  • @koriko88 Nah... new tech as in SUCCESSFULLY getting skin to bond and grow around the metal implanted that would usually be rejected instantly by the body.

  • @martinaee In general though we are currently able to replace lost limbs fairly well, with patients eventually being able to use them much (though not exactly) as they would a real limb. Being able to get the skin to bond and grow over would be good, but it could also complicate future updates and replacements.

  • I'm no animal lover, but, fuck, that's really fucked-up. Having to live the rest of its life hobbling on prosthetics after a life time of being able to bound across great heights and distances and landing on its feet. That's just unfair. ='(

  • @VorpalDrake :( Oscar will probably learn to do all (or most lol) of the things he did with his old legs on his prosthetics. Just look around YT for update videos - he learned to move as gracefully as any cat. :)

  • aww! i love this kitty! all of you saying mean things, its not the cats fault!! DONT WISH IT DEATH if u had your legs blown off and everyone was saying your unatural and should be dead you would feel great right?!?!?! ITS CUTE and i wish he was my kitty :)

  • we can rebuild him, we have the technology

  • they should put a machine gun on it and give it fake titties like in that shitty movie

  • DEVIL CAT! THIS IS UN-NATURAL! GOD DIDN'T NOT INTEND THIS CAT TO LIVE THIS THIS!

  • @neocon70 It' reasuring to know GOD has appointed an ass hole to speak for him.

  • "Save Africa" she said cuntily from her iPhone.

  • we give cats robot legs while people in Africa die of common cold. good ole crazy world.

  • @Endolaylith the vet did his best to improve an animal's situation....

I'm not saying "Who cares about Africa" but, medically, this is spectacular~

His owners were willing to spend thousands so that their cat could walk again... I see no difference between this and any other family getting prosthetics for their child. if anything, we should be amazed at the science here, and that humans are still willing to think of the quality of life outside their own species.

  • @mangakaserena you guys are totally misunderstanding me. your putting words in my mouth. i never said that we should let the cat die. are you people looking for someone to talk down to? I was simple stating the fact that we are able to help other species but unable to save ourselves which is a crazy component of this world. i am not criticising anyone just stating the facts. SO STOP HATE MAILING ME PEOPLE!!

  • @Endolaylith i never hate mailed anything...i calmly and kindly put out my point of view...sorry for hurting your glass feelings?

  • @mangakaserena i did not mean you, i just needed to reply to one of you so the comment was in the same area. i got tons of hate mail PMs about this and it's getting old.

  • ahh good, someone more constructive just PMed me how stop anyone not a friend from sending me messages. problem solved!

  • @Endolaylith Africa is beyond help, this cat wasn't.

  • @Endolaylith the fact that there IS so much suffering in the world makes it doubly necessary to alleviate it whenever we can. it doesn't make sense to say that since there're dying ppl in africa, we should let this cat die as well. there's no correlation, and that would just let a perfectly qualified veterinary surgeon go to waste.

  • @Endolaylith Think of this as an animal trial before we start doing this with humans. I read that there are a lot of amputees in Africa and other poor countries because of landmines and such so this experiment could help the poor people of the world.

  • @DerSchnurrbart sounds good

  • Next step now: adamantium claws.

  • I'm so happy for the cat and also for the technology they've come out with. How i wish people will be lyk the surgeon..who said how good it feels....to keep it alive.. . such a compassionate surgeon is truely respectiful.

  • that's so cool. it's neat how the metal bonded with it's skin, i wonder if they could do that again.

  • Amazing how quickly he adapts to them, and how confident and still friendly he is! What a deserving recipient :)

  • Daww....

  • These were the first version of Oscar's bionic feet. It was found that the soft material made his rear legs a little too wobbly, and the foam probably was getting dirty, so they replaced them with all-metal legs with ends shaped more like little cat feet. Those allow him to get a better "push" than the soft pads did, and he walks on them almost the same as his original feet.

  • Hooray for Oscar!

  • totally awesome ..... go kitty go

  • How much did it cost? He could be the $6000 dollar cat! Now he has to work for the OSI and catch a lot of rats.

  • Why are they stubs? Shouldn't they be more like paws?

  • That's so amazing! Glad the cute little guy is able to walk again. Oscar, you rock!

  • Six Million Dollar Kitty!

  • That is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen...go Oscar!
