@MeatyVitaminE I think that association is only kind of natural because they were both giants who had quickly become something bigger than they could emotionally deal with, they were both amazing musicians whose lives ended too early, the last generation had Janice Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix, I had Kurt Cobain and Shannon Hoon, I say embrace that and celebrate the work of all four of them

Until now, I never gave Blind Melon a chance after "No Rain"... I absolutely HATE that song/video with every fiber of my being.

So finally, I've decided to check out some of their other stuff here on YouTube and give them a fair chance. Not bad... kinda "Black Crows-y", at times. But overall, so far it's just not doing it for me.

Maybe I'm not picking the best songs. Any suggestions? Or if I'm not digging this (or "Change" or "Skinned"), will I probably not dig their other stuff, either?

@DarthMohammed I really feel like blind melon is a band that grows on you. I appreciate people that open themselves up to different music and I think that kind of attitude pays off. This band sounds like nothing else out there. It is weird and different. For me blind melon is about emotion. The words hooked me then I was blown away at the musicianship, the unity, their ability to build up such a mood. I remember soup, all that I need, and life aint so shitty being some first loves.

There are still a few bands that I like that are very innovative coming out today, so brighten up a bit. You don't have to listen to today's pop music, so get outside of the mainstream and enjoy other music. Music is music.

Amen Melonamy1. It took me a long time to be able to listen to them again. I thought Shannon was such a gifted artist and the loss felt so great. I bought the first CD and played it until I knew it all. Such a breath of fresh air was their original lyrics, sounds and style. RIP Shannon.
