I don't agree with this guy on the god thing but the issues he brings up about truth are important. In a pluralistic culture in a global community it is absolutely essential that these issues be looked at more broadly to get beyond the self centered individualism which provokes comments like "People that preach their beliefs to others are the worst." He wasn't preaching, but trying to provoke some thoughtful dialogue and that is exactly what's lacking.

I'm not sure if you check the comments or what, but I was wondering about your opinions are about mathematics, ie:2+2=4. This is an obvious truth - that when you take two rocks and put them together, you get four rocks. I was also wondering about you opinions on murder, rape, theft...since I don't know of anyone who has ever done any of these things without feeling the need to justify them. Newtons laws provided a very useful, but not completely accurate model of the universe. Saying there's no such thing as absolute truth is ridiculously childish. Just because people are on different levels in their search for truth, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, or that no one has found it. Don't limit yourself by saying no one anywhere knows truth.

Hmmmmm, I think you may be right. But think of it this way; Suppose there are no constants in this universe. Though the sun may rise today, it may not tomorrow. The earth's rotation may be altered by some physical force.
So, using your example, that one man may believe in the "truth" of reality, but the other may believe in the "truth" that the earth's rotation has altered, thus changing the original "truth" of gravity. Or think of Relativity vs. String Theory in the same way. (Damn this limit)

Pretty good, IMO, until the "belief" and "faith" part. Belief doesn't necessarily crystalize one's position. If I believe what you're saying, then I'll look at each person's viewpoints--the relativity of truth--in a more open manner. The effort required to look at each person's viewpoints in a more open manner, to search for truth, requires faith in my belief of what you're saying. Without belief or faith, I will not actively engage in truth-seeking. One can also believe without faith--no action

You seem to have bought into the idea of truth being a relativistic concept. This is not, in fact, the case.
If two people disagree on what the truth of a certain matter is, it does not follow that there is more than one truth...merely that one, or both, is wrong.
There is a vital difference between what we perceive as truth, and what the truth actually is. Nothing can be more or less true for different people - truth is absolute. Only their perceptions of it are different.

But the laws of physics are constantly being modified as new information comes into being, because they are laws based on theories, given they are widely accepted theories, but theories nonetheless. Also, the universe is not governed by what we interpret as the laws of physics, yes it has laws, but we don't know all of them so you can't say they are absolute because as we learn more about the laws governing this universe the very laws we have now could and most likely will be modified.

You're right that there must be stable laws of physics, but I agree with Nickthenec that we may not know them yet. Newtons laws provided a very useful, but not completely accurate model of the universe. Einstein later improved upon them, so we now have an even more accurate model of the laws of physics, but there may still be room for further improvement.
