why is it people who find in favour against nuclear power get battered and scrutinised but nuclear people are not even though they lie and are only interested in $s
How many 6.0+ earthquakes have they had in the fukushima area since March? At least five. Nothing is reported about them. Nothing. All lies. Murderous lies. There must be accountability lest we allow this tragic murder again and again and again. The murderers are in charge. 2012 will be the year this changes.
Why didn't you link the peer reviewed study? How many 'peers' reviewed it? And who were they?
Sorry, but correlation does not equal causation. You have not shown the cause of death in these kids and elderly to be radiation related, let alone radiation from fukushima.
If only the world had seen what Nikola Tesla would like for us as humanity could have had. Look his work up, yes even here in Youtube you'll be able to find his great work,he was the Great pioneer for free energy, energy that is generated from our earths rotation. It was so free that JP Morgan who sponsored most of Tesla's work at that time deemed it UnProfitable to continue. People need to wake up there has since been many form of free energy being rediscovered but all were shut down.Look it up
As expected the Nuclear shills come out to dismiss this.
How off do you have to be , iCanHazInterwebz ,to say 14,000 deaths is just "up a little bit".
ANYTHING ,when it comes to kids is TOO MUCH.
iamgoddard said "they chose to small a range to compare". Go look at the numbers yourself , the average speaks for itself. They use dismissive words in a broad use to imply the study is wrong. This is professional propaganda at it's worst.
I have an impression that here in Japan news about the deaths of celebrities is far more frequent than previous years ( cancer lukemia, heartshock, etc.).The Japanese governmet will never intend to conduct epidiemologial research. So we remain far removed from what is going on in Japan. The surest thing, however, is that the results of radioactivity do not necessarily take a couple of years to turn up. They can be instantaneous, depending on the conditions of respective individuals.
This is nothing more than sensationalized specious reasoning. So death rates go up a little bit, it happens, but to jump on Fukoshima is just irresponsible. Since the tsunami happened many world events have happened including Occupy Wall Street, the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell and I think a new season of Modern Family started too - perhaps we should blame it on all of those things too.
This was just a bad study, so bad you can see why before digging into the data, as I have. Basically, the data sampling is cherry-picked by definition.
The CDC database they used has uninterrupted data from 1996 to last week, yet they chose only narrowed sample ranges 3.5 months before and after March 11, 2010 and 2011 to derive statistical measures. But not only is there no rationale or excuse to omit the continuous whole dataset, but their statistical figures are wrong as well. Junk science!
I would think that nuclear related illness takes much longer to manifest than 14 weeks. People who die quickly are exposed to extreme doses, like the fire fighters who went into the reactors at Chernobyl and I haven't heard of any such deaths among first responders in Japan. Cancers and leukemia would probably take years. It leaves me a bit skeptical.
I don't know why there worried about reactor # 4 collapsing. There are no fuel rods, or bundles left. They have been melted down for some time now, the end of august I believe. Go to "Japan Nuclear Fuel Pool has no water" Back then they showed video of an empty pool, with empty fuel racks, you can't see any fuel bundle handles. Remember that, this was taken before they paid off Arnie, definitly has changed since then. Do your research, be informed. Knowlege is power.
Type in George Monbiot and Chernobyl in to Google - you'll soon see why this complete BS. Cherry-picking data, extrapolation, manipulation, avoiding critical evidence,...I've seen it all in my studies in stats, and this is just another case of bad use of stats. People like this disgust me. These people should be given the oxygen of self-promotion.
@theindiekidable These people constitute the voice of the mainstream on nuclear in America. The hysterics would be humorous, if it were not holding us back. I find it very interesting that Environmentalist Organizations like Greenpeace receive money from big foundations such as the Rockefeller Foundation. Demonizing the solution to environmental problems is the paradox of the Environmental Movement.
I do not understand why Tom plays right into the hands of the oil companies by demonizing nuclear. Nuclear is the one technology that could put the oil companies out of business. The oil companies know this. There are nuclear reactor designs that sit on the shelf which could power the whole of the USA. Nuclear could allow us to dismantle the dams which are killing off fish species, convert to a hydrogen economy and explore the solar system. Tom keep demonizing nuclear the oil boys love it.
This is complete bunk. The longtime, anti-nuclear authors simply found areas with increased death rates after Fukushima and then blamed Fukushima. They then extrapolated to other areas where there was no increase in death rates to claim more deaths would follow. No attempt to correlate dose with deaths, no attempt to find other potential sources of deaths, no reason for picking 14 weeks versus any other time.
@TheHealthPhysicist OK so everything is normal, just another beautiful day in the neighborhood, the nuclear materials all just floated away from earth and pose no harm to anyone...nothing to see here...LOL
@TheHealthPhysicist I agree. Nuclear is the one technology that could free us from the petrochemical monopoly on power. Yet, at every turn the"left" in this country for some reason goes hysterical when an accident occurs. Does it ever occur to people that there are no "clean" fixes. Even solar and windmill power will kill people. Nuclear I would argue is actually safer than both and is a "renewable" form of energy. Breeder reactors make more fuel than they consume.
I live in British Columbia and have heard no official pronouncements from either the BC Centre for Disease Control or from Health Canada that would support the claims made by Dr Sherman. Being a skeptic, and having full access to the internet, it was a simple matter to discover that Dr Sherma and Mr Mangano are well known anti-nuke activists. Nothing wrong with that -- but they 'cherry-picked' data to support their alarmist agenda. Infant mortality in the 7 wks prior to Fukushima was higher.

Of course the Japanese Government keeps lying. It is actually a CIA regime working for US and Israel. So covert but so simple.

@YouAreOneOfUs, indeed, no fallout is acceptable! But that does not mean Mangano & Sherman are correct. A few questions for you:
1) What's the average you cite that speaks for itself?
2) Do you understand that 'infant death' data are not 'infant mortality' data?
3) Given 2, do you understand that infant mortality cannot be inferred from infant deaths w/o live-birth data?
A quote from Mangano & Sherman (p. 51): "Only raw numbers of deaths, and not mortality rates, are given."

Shocking! A government official lying. :-o Well THAT never happens... What? Did you think that the US cornered the market on lying politicians? lol
Further Shock!!! The US government shut off the radiation detection in the US... But it's JAPAN that's lying... ummmm hmmmm.... bull crap!
