A GTX 460 1GB with a maximum overclock and an HD 6870 with the same maximum overclock will be neck and neck in performance. The GTX 460 has a lot more overclocking headroom (about 30%) vs. the HD 6870 (about 10-12%). Both are good choices and if you don't or can't OC a video card the HD 6870 is the better choice (by about 15% with both at stock clocks).
Good video. Im a poor boy so im just now getting a 6870 for a budget build. Due to arrive tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed i dont have to rma anything.
6870 is definitely can handle playing a pc game with max detail. Your screen showing an issue of tearing images @ 02:43, i guess you played it without Vsync. :)
@arjun10able Did not work for me. Tried to overclock everything. Performance of 6870 is only 50%. Firts it's the problem of your old motherboard, pci-e speed is too loo comparing to Z68 which I had to buy. And of course processor speed. Too low, too bad...
@arjun10able If you have dual core it's a hard question. I had core2duo and was not enough. I suggest Nvidia GeForce GTX260. But if you wanna play new games like Battlefield 3 you must upgrade.
@AffeBlitz haa, video cards are really cheap in eeuu, here in argentina, gtx cost 260$, and 6870, more than 300$. But, does 6870 performs well on phisx? Im no gefanboy, but im interested in buy one of these twos,
i had evga gtx 460 se and within 7 months it crashed....so no more evga or nvidia. iam thinking to buy HIS radeon 6870....i wanna know that is it better than my last evga gtx460 please help....
@cblt2007 definetly go with a gtx 560 or gtx 560 ti. this will save you in the long run because the gtx 560 ti can fully max out battlefield 3 and will play games smooth much longer than gtx 460. hope this helps
@Eysc its enough for the normal rig. But, if you like to add some accessories or wanna do for CFX i recommend for you 600watt. Check this minimum psu wattage on amd.com. :)

@wannabetyouarefat Yes it helps, but for serious overclocking you need high quality aftermarket coolers and you need the advanced knowledge. Do you have both things ?
@TugUnboxings Some basic oc skills, yes. Recently boought a new fan too, don't recall the name. single fan, aluminium heat sink and really fucking large (about twice the size of the stock cooler).
@wannabetyouarefat Ehehe :D If you think that you're cappable of overclocking it, go ahead and the chances of bottleneck will be reduced :) I'm soon going to buy cooler master hyper 212 plus for my cpu cooler.
@wannabetyouarefat Yes i agree with you , you have a realy kick ass cooler. Try this , overclock it first to 3,5Ghz and check out your temps. If they all run good on idle try some serious gaming and watch the temps again. If they are too high downcrease the overckock. If the temps are all good just go for some amazing 4Ghz. I have faith in you haha :D
@wannabetyouarefat I'm not sure , but just increase it a little bit everytime you try to overclock it so you get sure it won't burn. High voltages are deadly in a CPU.
@TugUnboxings i know, but in my BIOS i get something called "overvoltage", i can increase this by pressing "+" , so and then i'd get something like V 1.05, V 1.0525 ect.... Does this mean my processor get 1.05 volts or that my voltage is increased by 0.05?
@wannabetyouarefat It means that your voltage has increased 0,05. Be very careful. But if you have some money to spend just buy a new CPU :) Like a 965BE for example.
@TugUnboxings ok... just in case, what IF my voltage turns out to be 1.05 (almost 0.5 volts under stock), am i fucked then? Can i change it back somehow or will my system not even be able to boot up.
@wannabetyouarefat It's as simple as this, if you get the multiplier on 4Ghz you will increase the voltage just a little bit. The system will boot , and if it doens't work there will be a screen telling you that the overclock failed and the system goes back to default. The system won't just boot if you "cook" the cpu :D Which is unlikely with your giant cooler :D
@wannabetyouarefat Some cpu's are locked... This means that they can't be overclocked... The unlocked cpu's (for example corei7 2600k) are allowed to be overclocked... Example the corei7 2600 can't be overclocked but the corei7 2600K version can.
@Sparx936 Well why do you think I said gtx560ti 2gb? I know that most have only 1gb memory wich is already insufficient for some games. You are correct about the psu though. You'd need a 600W psu for an sli setup. If you plan on overclocking then good quality one.
@Sparx936 The 560ti has more cores and faster memory.Pair that with 2gb memory and the ability to OC to 1Ghz and you have your self a very future proof card.In sli they beat a single 580 easily for a cheaper price.

@TheDiego1255 The higher the framerate the smoother you game is Most games with v sync on lock at 60 fps so if you get 60 fps or around there is generally pretty good but the higher the better :)
@TheDiego1255 think of it this way, your gpu is taking acting photos of whats happening on screen. and if you say have 5 fps that means its taking 5 frams a second. witch is more like a slide show than a game. but 60 frames is seamless and you cant notice any studder. the human eye generally runs at 40 frames
@randomness711 yea dude that what i thought man. It's kinda obvious fps ps is always per second like RPM per min. Thanks though explaining the the 60 frame part etc thx again man
@joholj1204 What was the point of that comment I think you are a liar since you wouldnt get 2x frames with that card crossfired you would get plus 20 tops
3:43 Wow, nice kill! Oh, I meant as in the physics... cause he wasn't able to shoot you... so that wasn't a fair fight, but nice physics kill! It's like if you were to run around and then get shot at, your still running then, so it's all cool and stuff.
You might say I lacked since there, but I said it...
dont require as much GPU power so the HD6870 would handle them games even better than crysis :P
Thanks alot again for making the vid :D - Subscribed :P - And I want to get an I5 4.60 Ghz OC processor with 8GB DDR3 Ram =) - So I will be happy at christmas when everything is cheaper and new things come out xD - I will be happy ^.^
Thanks alot for the uploading of vid mate :P - I'm hoping to get a HD6870 1GB DDR3 graphics card at christmas this year - at the moment the Pre-order price for the newer version of this (Same model number) is £119.00 so that isn't bad at all - and beats my trust 4850 OC :P - and I love crysis and since I know crysis demands alot of GPU power out of rigs then I know that with a nice 30-40 fps would handle nicely - maybe even add a couple AA ;) -
@mast3rmgl XFX Radeon HD 6870 (black edition with a little more mhz) runs things alot better then the 560. It's 189 euro's here. But i'd go for that one m8.
@ManitheGamer21 I can get 50 fps on hd 6870 on max settings with 4 gb ram core i7 and 550 psu. I cant understand why people buy expensive cards with the same performance like on hd 6870
1 question... why when i play gta 4 with this card i have good fps and after 25 min. it drop to low fps and then it goes back up to good fps? sorry my bad english
@ZmyhayZ No question dude: The 6950 is much, MUCH stronger than the 6870. 6870 is a bargain card, hense its very low price point. It is not as powerful in some cases as the 5970, though it does have a very fast core clock.
I bought the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC Version with my new comp , And every game i play with 1280x1024(my monitor dont support higher) with AA and Highest settings on, i have over 60FPS. I have played: Homefront, Crysis 2. Total War: Shogun 2, Dead Space 2,
u said in the video that viewers would moan at u for playing at gamer settings.....and they have every fucking right to....
how the fuck can u compare 2 gpus by playing at gamer...knowing that both of them can support these graphics at high fps......if u played at max...1 of em would have lagged more than the other...thereby making our choices easier....
the fucking OBJECTIVE of the video was comparison...not to have a good time playing a game @ low graphics with high fps damnit
insisde green shack 6870 makes above 80fps, 460 stops on 60 there. Open areas: gtx drops to 32fps, 6870 stays most times above 40fps. see?

Thanks alot for the uploading of vid mate :P - I'm hoping to get a HD6870 1GB DDR3 graphics card at christmas this year - at the moment the Pre-order price for the newer version of this (Same model number) is £119.00 so that isn't bad at all - and beats my trust 4850 OC :P - and I love crysis and since I know crysis demands alot of GPU power out of rigs then I know that with a nice 30-40 fps would handle nicely - maybe even add a couple AA ;) -
And also since I love other games too but they

@mast3rmgl XFX Radeon HD 6870 (black edition with a little more mhz) runs things alot better then the 560. It's 189 euro's here. But i'd go for that one m8.

@YouPuzz100 GTA 4 has a terrible memory leak, it has nothing to do with your hardware, it's just a terrible console port.

ZmyhayZ 8 months ago
but how about a hd6950 vs hd6870???
ZmyhayZ 8 months ago
@ZmyhayZ No question dude: The 6950 is much, MUCH stronger than the 6870. 6870 is a bargain card, hense its very low price point. It is not as powerful in some cases as the 5970, though it does have a very fast core clock.

amolyoko 8 months ago
@amolyoko HD 6870, but i don't think this is a fair battle between the two. more fair battle would be a GTX 560 vs. HD 6870.
dkL33T 8 months ago
@amolyoko or a GTX 470

ok so HD6870 is a bit better than GTX460 especially in Metro2033. At least thats what it looked like from the results?

u said in the video that viewers would moan at u for playing at gamer settings.....and they have every fucking right to....
how the fuck can u compare 2 gpus by playing at gamer...knowing that both of them can support these graphics at high fps......if u played at max...1 of em would have lagged more than the other...thereby making our choices easier....
the fucking OBJECTIVE of the video was comparison...not to have a good time playing a game @ low graphics with high fps damnit
