This song and all of the older and more obscure stuff has incredible meaning to me. One Foot in the Grave and Stereopathetic have been my favorite albums for close to twenty years now. Damn genius!

There's some kind of "forcefield" in the subconsciousness, and thereby can't be explained let alone handled. But as soon as it gets into the conscious, simply by knowing it exist, it can be handled and left aside, thereby preventing it from "turning you into the things you hate the most":
