I brought a brand new scirocco in 2009 and it was a disaster. It never drove well with a steering wobble at 100k. The dealer tried to fix it and failed many times. Then they crashed it on a test drive (with 1500k on the clock). But I had to demand that they replace it as the repair job was simply amature! And get this, the new one still had the same steering wobble.
I gave up on VW after the VW dealer gave up on it too. I bought a 2nd hand BMW Z4 coupe which has been trouble free.
Not sold in America, like the United States? How about La America, I got hooks up in Mexico, like in GDL. Would love to get my hands on a SCRIRROCCO, convert them into California emissions and sale them for top dollar. I ust ot have a 78&83, love this vw.

I actually might have bought one if it had the concept front-end, the one it ended up with is way to basic, the car lost is wow factor without this feature! Who's making the decisions over there?
I intend to buy a scirocco 2.0 tdi, it's almost impossible to drive big engine sport cars on 98 octanes gas in Portugal, wich cost 1,5€ per liter, imagine buying gas at 4,5 USD the gallon, he he he.
I wouldnt consider buying the 1.4 petrol, it's the same as the golf, so the 2.0 petrol was the way to go :) and that one is indeed expensive to run, i'm with you regarding petrol for fun, that's why i have a r5 gt turbo and a honda s2000 ap1, the honda was my main car until now, but it's just too damn expensive to run on a daily base, that's why going for the 2.0 tdi scirocco.
@danieleriver i have one of these and i can tell you now. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY I SPENT. I have the 2.0 L tsi and it is faster then you may think it is. There is also a new interior for 2010 which my scirocco has. You saying that also means you have never driven the car.
are you sure about that? i'm not - but i do know when cars are singly imported to the US from UK time and $ goes into safety and emissions. plus US can't have all of the diesel cars that europe can b/c of emissions?? like i said, i'm not sure.
The safety tests and emission tests are different and not compatible, doesn't mean they're less safe! Look at our cars in Europe, they're much smaller and so safety is stricter (take the Smart for example, very safe even in a collision with a much heavier vehicle) Diesel cars have much, much, much lower emissions than petrols of course, so not sure where you're coming from with that statement! A lot of Euro diesel emit less C02 than the Prius.
The new Fiesta does over 80 MPG, I'm sure with my skilled ECO driving i could get 85 to 90 MPG! Mid range family car?.....hmmm plenty to choose from, you need to be more specific really, what is a priority, mileage? Space? how many seats? etc i could point you in the right direction :)
well myself, my wife and our baby. i was thinking medium suv (vw tiguan?), estate, or mondeo sized 4-door. i'd like decent mileage (38 maybe?), but also would love decent performance. i drive an 06 vw gti 2L turbo petrol now. the size is a bit rough, but i love everything else about it.
VW are very popular, well built and reliable. 38 MPG can be expected from petrol car, but everyone in the UK has a diesel if they need a big car. Expect your average diesel family car to get between 45 and 65 MPG. VW do a 1.9 litre TDI, fast and frugal (not crazy fast of course!) Plenty of turbo diesel family cars with similar sized engines ranging from 1.6 litre to 2.0 litre max, most do similar mileage too. New Fiat Multipla 1.9 TDI is good, 3 seats in front and 3 in rear! lots of choice...
It's worth baring in mind that while diesels are indeed more efficient when compared with the equivalent petrol, fuel prices often make up for the difference here. However you do normally pay less road tax since they usually emit less Co2.
Er why reply by stating the obvious? I've just said I won't buy it because it's not fast enough... and you responded with a dumb comment IN AGREEMENT with what I'm saying.
I love the styling and design of the car but it's simply not fast enough for me. Now if this had the Audi S3 internals then I'd be all over it, but it doesn't. The 2.0T simply isn't fast enough for me to consider.
i just heard about this car and i thought i was for sure going to get the euro focus that is finally coming to the states in late 2010. but now i'm not sure. especially if vw decide to release the awd v6 version of this.
EHm però se evito di usare il pc della mia ragazza è meglio... dicevo: La possiedo e l'adoro!!! MUAHAHA

I wouldn't mind at all owning the 160 or the 200 PS version combined with the DSG gearbox! That prototype front grill was pretty impressive, but VW being VW they made the production model a bit more boring.
Fans of the old Sciroccos are disappointed about the design of this new one. At least it looks better than the Golf. But the new Scirocco still looks more like a Golf than a Scirocco.
I have now driven the Mito 1.4 155hp and the Scirocco 1.4 160hp (in Portugal they cost practically the same and I was in doubt about which one I would buy). The Mito is good, but the Scirocco is in another league. For the same money (€1.500 difference...), there are no second thoughts. The suspension (DCC), the steering, the engine, the interior quality, the rear seats space and the gearbox are a lot better in the Scirocco. The whole VW feels more premium.
mito comes in less than 19k euros with electronically adjastable suspension i doupt if sciroco can chase that price , ( ofcourse it cant chase it it in track )
but dont forget a litle thing here , mito is a "city car" sciroco is a coupe
i agree that its not very good looking, but this is like a better, faster version of the great Golf. So VW have re-created something for the feel of driving, rather than everyday practicality
What? You didn't offend me (I am the 'other guy'!). I was just asking you if your opinions about Alfa reliability were because you owned one or just because you heard it. Apparently not just because you heard it. One more thing: did your brother buy that Brera second hand? Or was it new? Appreciate your opinion!
Do you have one? Or do you know someone who owns one and had problems? Yours is a common opinion, but when I ask people why, they never speak for themselves, it's always "someone who knows someone that had an unreliable Alfa". I owned a Lupo 1.0 and not only the engine was Skoda and it did 10L/100km, but also the electric windows never worked properly and the airbag indicator light was always on. And now I hear from car mags that Alfa unreliability is left in the 80s and 90s. What do you think?
my brother has a normal Brera not the s model, he sold it away after 10 months cus of leakage problem. I'm sorry if I have offended u, was just trying to advise that guy.
I know a lot of people that understand more about cars than me see this videos, and that's why I'm asking this question.
I'm buying a new car, and here in Portugal the Mini Cooper S full extras and the Scirocco 200 hp will be close in their price tag. I know they do the same 0-100km/h (0-62mph), but are they equally fun to drive? Can the Scirocco 200 hp match the Cooper S in a twisty road? I would appreciate if you could answer me as a "reply" so I know I've been answered. Thank you a lot!
i cant say anything about the scirocco, but i will vouch for the mini cooper S. i believe the mini is a great car and i think it could out handle a gti, in an auto cross race.
You must have been looking for a reason to get pissed off to invent any of these "sounds". I don't give a rats fuck how they say it. I'd just never heard it pronounced that way.
As a fellow American, I would like to apologize for StephenStinson. I assure you we are not all blundering, offensive, knee-jerk reactionary twats. There are still quite a few of us who retain a sense of humor.
So you think being called an ignorant yank is some kind of joke? You go ahead and laugh. I'd rather have a spine and defend myself. You are very welcome to fuck off now.
I've never like any VW since they stopped making the original Beetle......But this new Scirocco has caught my attention. I love the hatchback/sportscar look. The seats however look painful.
back seaters will have to tilt their head forward since the roof slopes down. very uncomfortable. If it had the head room of the GTI, then it would be perfect.

Are some people actually stupid enough to buy diesel coupes?

big engine? 98 octane?
we are talking about a a VW scirocco, not a ferrari. 95octane will do.
Over here (germany) u save about 1000euro over 50.000km or 3000euro over 100.000km by choosing the 2.0l diesel instead of the 2.0l petrol.
And if u compare the 2l diesel to the 1.4l petrol, petrol is cheaper for the first 120.000km (!).
In my experience petrol engines are just so much more fun to drive. (and much more pleasant to the ear)
Molo9000 2 years ago

Alfa MiTo 1.4 155hp VS VW Scirocco 1.4 160hp
* Which one?
* Why?
odracirseraoseia1999 3 years ago
scirocco of course. Great engine + great gear box + great looks = great car
zeo99 3 years ago
Hmm... but the same on the MiTo, isn't it? I'm really confused...
odracirseraoseia1999 3 years ago
no dude all alfa romeos r unreliable.
zeo99 3 years ago
Do you have one? Or do you know someone who owns one and had problems? Yours is a common opinion, but when I ask people why, they never speak for themselves, it's always "someone who knows someone that had an unreliable Alfa". I owned a Lupo 1.0 and not only the engine was Skoda and it did 10L/100km, but also the electric windows never worked properly and the airbag indicator light was always on. And now I hear from car mags that Alfa unreliability is left in the 80s and 90s. What do you think?
odracirseraoseia1999 3 years ago
my brother has a normal Brera not the s model, he sold it away after 10 months cus of leakage problem.

Thank you a lot!
odracirseraoseia1999 3 years ago
i cant say anything about the scirocco, but i will vouch for the mini cooper S. i believe the mini is a great car and i think it could out handle a gti, in an auto cross race.

DISGUSTING.
That's not anything like the Scirocco or the Corrado. It's a hatch. Not a coupe. AND The nurator's voice is annoying.

Fog breathing Nancy boy.

Its not coupe-a... its coupé. Means something that has been cut in french... as in a 4 door with two doors cut off.
VonVoltage 3 years ago
Thank you.
I don't know what ugly rat crawled up Nigel's cunt, but I don't see why a simple question need result in insult to my country.
In America it's pronounced coop. The E is silent. And it means a car with two doors and a fixed roof. I drive a 1994 300ZX coupe for example.
StephenStinson 3 years ago
to me 'WTF is a coup-A??' doesn't sound like a 'simple question' it sounds like your angry at them saying coupé like that.
matchoftheday3 3 years ago
You must have been looking for a reason to get pissed off to invent any of these "sounds". I don't give a rats fuck how they say it. I'd just never heard it pronounced that way.
StephenStinson 3 years ago
Wow, insult to your country? Really?
As a fellow American, I would like to apologize for StephenStinson. I assure you we are not all blundering, offensive, knee-jerk reactionary twats. There are still quite a few of us who retain a sense of humor.
You'll kindly disregard the rest.

So you think being called an ignorant yank is some kind of joke? You go ahead and laugh. I'd rather have a spine and defend myself. You are very welcome to fuck off now.

Great looking thing! If you see it in reality, the hood looks even longer. And it's starting at only 22k. Probably completely striped-down though...

i liked the style of my old Scirocco much better... it was sleek, this is too ubrban... too many look-alikes. ;-(

I've never like any VW since they stopped making the original Beetle......But this new Scirocco has caught my attention. I love the hatchback/sportscar look. The seats however look painful.
Stylensky 3 years ago
back seaters will have to tilt their head forward since the roof slopes down. very uncomfortable. If it had the head room of the GTI, then it would be perfect.
Skyjuice70 3 years ago
Is this car bigger than a gti? Do they have these in Canada?
Jass526 3 years ago
it looks a lot longer than the GTI, dunno about height though.
