  • @kitsunechan90 exactly my thoughts

  • @kitsunechan90 it's a hedgehog

  • @wingchangwow I don't know the difference lol XD.

  • @kitsunechan90 he came

  • those are really cool!!!!! (i wish i knew how to make them DX)

  • nice!!!!!!!!

  • that was a hedghog w/ the sponges. a would kill for the porkupine in the begining!

  • hedgehogs are not porcupines.

  • 0:56 thats me at sainsburys wine rack

  • daaaaamnn. nice :D. i want ot learn to do that. stuff.

  • awww the porccipine was humping the sponges

  • Holy Shit that porcupine at the end looked so real.I could totally scare the shit out of my sister hahahahahahahahaha

  • the troll looks like its from harry potter and the ugly monster with spikes looks like its from the haunting hour ^O^

  • Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

  • WOw! I'd think that most of those things were done with CGI

  • i loled so hard at the water bottle part

  • 0:38 that animal clearly says: FUCK

  • @ElPsychochillero I think he says FREE

  • 1:01 Yoda?

  • I want to work there. Its my dream.. one of them @ least.. ha ha

  • Snuggles and the camel are absolutely adorable! *o* <33

  • They should have the talking panda bear on here from the chinese food comercialll

  • Why use CGI when everybody KNOWS its obviously fake. Why not use the REAL thing because there's nothing more real on film than the ACTUAL THING being shot!

  • Was that hedgehog doing what I think it was doing to those sponges? 0_o

  • What is the bever one from I've seen it before

  • @AnimeWolfArtist it was the one in narnia, but i looked and couldnt find a video on it

  • this crazy amazing!!!

  • OMG! Never seen a mouth move so... realistically!

  • very cool stuff, its amazing what can be done with animatronics these days.

  • @Matt1Duncan

A lot of that beautiful stuff Andy did was from quite a long time ago.

Many producers are oblivious to what is possible and just employ CGi for everything whether it is appropriate or not. Saves them having to think so hard on set or take perceived risks

Check out this stuff I did for example over 15 years ago; watch?v=ZNiEnYQIh50

I doubt many producers nowdays would even know what was possible and would just use 3D animation.

    Not that I mind.. watch?v=z31t-DrEJhU

  • so epic.

  • верблюд офигенный)))

  • The narnia ones are amazing! I did not know they were real life!

  • these are awesome

  • animatronics are sexy

  • i wanna talk trash to people in that camel outfit

  • so you did fucking hedgehog? respect!

  • I'm sorry but this is 10,000 times any of the CGI shit. I so much prefer this stuff than the crap I see in a Lucas movie.

  • Lol this is awesome, but calling Lucas Arts crap is exaggerated hehe

  • @DKJHamp But Jim Henson's Creature Shop also does CGI.

  • Seriously awesosme.

  • ROFL @ the camel buying all the water hahaha, cracks me up, awesome.

  • Just one word for this: Amazing!

  • wow. its so realistic.

  • Take that, AVATAR!!!

  • Wow these are frigging amazing, my ideal job would be to make the outershell of these, I'd be useless at the robotics.

  • What was that hedgehog doing with that sponge? 0_o

  • @billy9038 at first i thought it was just trying to get over the sponge but then it started wiggling and i was sold. i want one of those

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus christ animatronics give me the heebie jeebies. CGI looks better, it's cheaper, and doesn't require people to carry it around. When you have a real actor interacting with a creature, then you should use animatronics with a CG overlay, but other than that, it's a dead art.

  • I understand how difficult and amazing these pieces were/are to make, but still... That's like saying lead is a better than bubble-wrap because it's more difficult to ship.

  • @xxRazorJadexx they can be used for things other than that

  • i really hope one day ill be working with animatronics looks like alot of fun

  • MY GOD they move so friggin realistically O_O.... It's been a while since I've been THIS amazed.

  • omg! these look so real ... especially that hedgehog :D

  • THIS is the stuff that gets me excited and involved in movies. Terrifically cool. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • i allways loved stuff from jim hensons. i remember tv series "dog city" all to well.that out beat the muppets anytime for hand puppets. i would love to see an updated version of the dog city. especaily since animatronic are alot better since the time of the tv series. the animatroics of today would do more than just flap their mouths open and close.

  • fucking ace work

  • I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Creature Shop comes up with in their animatronics department for the Power of the Dark Crystal. =)

  • I love the little hedgehog, I thought it was real at one point

  • So much work for these movies.

  • What is more expensive to do? Animatronics or CGI?

  • @CardiohallPictures No doubt the animatronics are far more expensive and demands much more workers during the concept and the making. The CGI is a cheap resource to simulate the "same" effect, but the technology isnt that great even by today, its just aint no better than using those toys. Watching Avatar i feel like playing a fucking Playstation, its awful.

  • @CardiohallPictures computer graphics imaginary are more time consuming but cheaper, it takes less time to create 3d models but when it comes to rendering even with super fast computers it can take hours to render one frame, the computer has to calculate a lot of things, while with animatronics the rendering is in real time...

  • I always thought it was cgi!

  • THAT was amazing! You should post more.

  • You should post more videos!

  • The troll from harry potter was so real

  • I admit, these are some of the best animatronics I've ever seen.

  • Bloody hell, these are terrifying

  • Brilliant. Skin movement is top class

  • Cool!

  • Woah it's amazing how real they make them look! I want one!

  • I always thought that the troll in Harry Potter was a CG one. That's cool to find out that it was just a huge puppet!!!

  • Incredible - Awesome - cool ! was only looking for a copy of the spec saver sloth ad - had no idea ...

  • HA HA HA HA HA! I want to meet a Camel at the store!

  • You are GOOD GOOD GOOD!!!!!

  • screw fursuits! get me into this!

  • oh Brotherhood of the Wolf. That P.Amazing bro

  • SO COOL

  • They are awesome! The troll is particularly gruesome.

  • i don't understand why CGI is used so much in movies nowadays when animatronic technology looks a lot better/realistic.

  • yes its cooler, but nowadays young people don't like realism, they like flashy lights and big explosions, not cool and realistic looking things.

  • @timninerell

I had no idea animatronics could look so real! Wow.

I still think CGI needs to be used in some scenes, but maybe no AS much as it's used in most movies.

  • @timninerell well because animatronics is a hell of alot more expensive and takes longer

  • @timninerell Because some things cant be done with animatronics. Animatronics cant jump or run fast...

  • @timninerell because the animetronics are goog but for certain parts like for example making a wolf run both animatronics aroe used then the CGI's are used

  • @timninerell easyer to animate

  • @cashresgister9 so what, CGI looks like shit

  • @timninerell There too lazy nowadays

  • @SneakySniper9 best response i've had to my comment

  • @timninerell this is more expensive/time-consuming to make.

  • @timninerell takes longer to make

  • 1:20 ?? LOL WTF! seriously!

  • i played harry potter and that troll on play station 1 is real freaky

  • What kind of materials do you use to add all the details? I'm an art student running out of ideas, and animatronic animals are fascinating!

  • I'd love to walk door-to-door asking for directions in that bear outfit.

  • AMAZING! OMG This has to be one of the most wonderful jobs on earth :-))))

  • pimp as hell

  • UNREAL!

  • good job man this is amazing

  • Fake what idiot?:/

    It's suposed to be fake

  • sorry i ment cgi :-)

  • BEST ANIMATRONICS EVER! 5/5! and if you can find me a animatronic lion/lion head vid plz send it 2 me!!!!!!:D

  • Movie makes don't do NEARLY enough justice for this dying art.

Everyone relies on CGI because it's easier, faster and easy to manipulate. But hardly any love goes in to it.

These creatures are meticulously brought to life by hand, given beautiful nuances and intricate movements.

  • CGU is not easier! A team of briliant artists works for months on some cg project and you say they gave no love to it? The computer doesnt do it all for them!! Its just becouse you can imagine how they do these animatronics but you dont know how they do cgi.

  • wtf hedgehog fucking a sponge? the hell?

  • Wow this was so interesting, thank you for posting. I am a creative advertising student and this was very interesting to watch.

  • was the porky pine humping the spounge????

  • i think he was trying to squeez it.. but i thought that same thing at first XD

  • I've always been a HUGE fan of puppetry/animatronics/suitmation and I hope to one day work at Jim Henson's creature workshop. Absolutely amazing. 5 stars.

  • Those are increadable. So lifelike.

  • Trol is amazing. See you at millennium soon, i think.

  • really really cool!

One problem i notice a lot with animatronics like these and in movies is that the noses always move too much. the nose movements should be more subtle

  • Nice vid. Thanks for sharing. I only wish Hoggle from the 1986 movie "Labyrinth" was included because it too, was pretty cool.

  • hehe cool

  • I want that polar beat costume!

  • wow.. just wow... the creature from Brotherhood of the Wolf has always amazed me. I watch that movie several times a year and I could never figure out how it was done.

Even knowing it was an animatronic made it even more awesome! It was such a gorgeous piece!

  • Great, like it

  • This vid proves that CGI should be the absolute last resort when you're doing a special effect.

  • Completely Agree. CGI is cool but making animatronics is way better.

  • Until CGI gets more advanced, then it'll be cheaper to do CG and it'll look more natural, animation wise

  • @RobohX360 I super agree. I was totally nonplussed after watching I Am Legend because it seemed pretty lazy to make CGI zombies after every other zombie movie ever has real people in it. LAMESAUCE.

  • @RobohX360 Animatronics of this caliber are probably far more expensive than CGI. In high budget Hollywood movies, your argument is, in my opinion, valid, but in the case of lower budget movies, CGI may be the only option.

On another note, the damn camel cracked me up.

  • @RobohX360

Of course. Great example is Lord of the rings.. Why not build couple thousand animatronic sculptures..

  • @RobohX360 u damm right !

  • I'll never write a movie with a father character who speaks like an animatronic in an afterschool america

  • excellant

  • cool

  • Amazing!

  • How do you get a job that awesome! I want to do that!!!

  • This is really cool :D

  • muy bueno

  • dude you have the best job!

  • Right now most robots look robotic. They should put some of these heads on them!

  • Unbelievable realism! If they made robots with such facial expressions, I wouldn't be able to tell they were robots!

  • It looks amazing!!!!

Kinda scary to see the heads without a body. :P

  • weren't those sloths commissioned for the specsavers advert?

  • dump the music and it would be better

  • AMAZING WORK!!!

  • Well done.

    Very realistic.

    Five star, favorited.

  • SWEET!!!!

  • beautiful creations.

  • thats pretty kool, so much go's into it, i like how ther so smooth now and no jittery and pauses, nice and fluent...

  • Aw man, I've always thought animatronics was so awesome. And now the PC and the CGI effects take over so much of it, it's kinda sad.

Still, gotta love what a bunch of tech heads can do with a few dolls and the right lighting. :)

  • thats totally awesome! :D

  • Great work, very well done, nice smooth realistic movements on all your stuff.

    Great!

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Its amazing how realistic these look. Their eyelids can even move? Modern technology is scary.

Maybe I could have a pet animatronic orca. :P

  • Would u make me some thing>?

  • the one at 0:25 was the troll in harry potter

  • The last one is wicked!

  • Nice work ady. Im a mechy here in Australia.

Like the eyelids split sphere so it rubs on the ball. We have been doing a few jobs with that to get lens interaction.

  • Omg, I remember the sloths in the specsavers ad! xD I am fascinated with all of these, expecially the porcupine and the polar bear. I think it's the movement around the mouth that I am perplexed with. So fluid and realistic.

  • LMAO the camel was.........weird

  • love the polarbear

  • Always been infatuated with animatronics. These are awesome.

  • wow those were great!

I'm pretty sure I went to school with that bald guy...

  • wicked :)

  • thats some pretty cool shit rite there

  • Thanks for the lovely coments guys. We actually shot the camel in an open asda in Slough, it was histerical. One woman had to be taken out of the shop because she wouldn't stop screaming at it. And yea everything on the reel is from Henson's. Going to put another reel together soon but it'll be on a different page as I'm locked out of this one and can't be arsed to sort it out. Also check out my mate Chris Clark, his stuff is fab. Cheers Ady

  • Holy crap, some of those were AMAZING!

  • Beautifull work mate. All the best Gustav

  • Ady - did you / do you work at Henson?

  • The polar bear is my fav

  • and the humping hedgehog

  • are you a furry, i was wondering cause of the neat animatronics you have . that id love to whare sometime. sence im a fursuiter.

  • That porcupine would scare the absolute SHIT out of me

  • very freaky :P

  • this is amazing but creepy.

  • how does one get into animatronics im intrested but have no idea what school is the best or what subjects and stuff -.-

  • I would recommend getting Aaron Fechters Animatronics Experimenters Kit. Check the master out on the fanprograms channel.
