  • God, that start is so enticing! Priyadarshini is easily the superstar of Bharatanatyam. I love how effortlessly seductive her dance is

  • Great thillana !!!!! Like the simplicity of this thillana

  • I totally agree with Ntm dancer and with lyoshafurdak,,,,,,priya is the best...she has her low moments..but shes the best....what you both say is so true...there are different types of rasikas..satvik, tamaisk and rajasik..only the satvik rasikas enjoy the satvikabhinaya that flows into the nritta aspect as well.. the other types must have more physical aspects to dance such as number crunching..lines..geometry..it also comes witth age..priya is the best and also see rama vaidyanathan..wow!!

  • too awesome! yet so simple, pure joy in this performance of art

  • have no words...i have gotten addicted to this piece...which year was this performed? and what kind of music is this? her breathtaking dance with this music is makes me happy while watching.

  • if only i had a nickel for the number of times I played the first 30 seconds or so of the video. Enchanting.

  • very beautiful.........

  • beautifull dance i wish i just could seeher live on stage rather than in videos <3 u priyardarshani govind !!!!i wish to be as good as u in dancing!!!

  • incredibly beautiful, masterpiece!

  • I actually like the simplicity of this Thillana. This is the grace of Bharata Natyam- it is not about ten million movements in one minute or high legs, or pirouettes. It is about the soul. Look at her face- it is pure joy, Ananda! You can see this sincere joy only in children. And finally “Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

Priya is the best. Bharata Natyam rulles!

  • @lyoshafurdak

I agree with you in regards to "perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add." Which is precisely my point. In transitions where there aren't any steps, the artist fails to hold the viewers attention. This is a key detail of barathanatyam. I lovely performance nonetheless, but with direction from a senior guru, these minor yet vital details would have taken the dance to another level. -i'm really happy to be discussing our classical arts in such a forum :)

  • @eastexotic don't you think though at a certain point people aren't going to see dance to examine every technical detail but to be taken to another place? i think every dancer (or even artist) may have some sort of technical weaknesses, but the dancers that really last are the ones that have that little extra something that you cant really place. for some reason you really want to watch them....at that point dance goes beyond dance and then - its just really ART. :) just some thoughts.

  • @ntmdancer

    point taken, thank you

  • I actually saw her perform live in this costume. At first I didn't like it that much either, but eventually I thought it looked nice and unique. Not quite my taste, but still nice. She is so amazing live! She did this amazing Shiva Parvati Padam (unfortunately I don't remember the name of the song). It was so beautiful!

  • i must admit, i'm not feeling the costume. too much contrast everywhere,

and the choreography...i didn't enjoy it much either, i believe the artist could have performed better with proper direction, for a thillana, it was rather awkward and didn't flow from movement to movement very well. good artist, but not her best performance

  • @eastexotic I'd like to quote anita ratnam's comment here.. "they (the costumes) look like patchwork thrift shop quilting"

  • @eastexotic I agree. I love her and have watched her both live and on DVDs. Clearly, this was not her sharpest. She is though, all considered the best bharatanatyam dancer of our times.

  • Check out that soft movement at 00:10 after the attami but yet its so strong and beautiful!

  • No she is from the Vazhuvoor bani of Bharata Natyam her guru was Guru Rajarathnam Pillai of Vazhuvoor style of Bharata Natyam and her Abhinaya guru is Kalanidhi Narayanan!!

  • Can anyone confirm whether Pandanallur is the style of bharatanatyam that she is performing in...?

  • @1988Jyoti - She is trained in the Vazhuvoor style.

  • this s n kathanakuthukalam, thillana

  • thz s n kathanakuthukalam ragam

  • I saw her in person and it was beautiful. One of the best dancers I have ever seen.

  • which thillana is this? it sounds soo familiar..

  • kathana kuthuhala

  • How does she move with such fluidity.

  • She makes me soooo happy. I want to be like her when she grows up. This is the meaning of life.

  • She's just the perfection !!
