I had never heard of this band until a friend took me to a live concert in 1966 at the "Cheetah" night club in Venice, Ca. The music was simply good Rock & Roll. Frank was certainly unique, although I must sadly confess his compositions took a downward turn when he succumbed to the "Media Sound" pressure that destroyed so many gifted and talented musicians. As a guitar player he was second to none. Great Band !
this album has always fascinated the hell outta me. truly the first meeting of rock and, dare i say it, 'avant garde'. then again it always turns out that the first one to do something is never the one who gets famous for it. so who really knows when that meeting first took place. all i know is zappa beat the the beatles to it
@streetspiritlive haha, i stole this album from my dad 14 years ago and my mom wanted to do the same thing.. bahahahaha...... I'm glad there are some Zappa fans out there..
In Autumn of '67 i was turned on simultaneously to Freak Out and cannabis...and after all this time i'm still addicted to the Mothers. Thanks for uploading FreakOut. It is a real treat!!

Zappa had such great "tone". Guitar sounds compressed..could it be? Maestro fuzz my guess. Analog echo on voices "wow!".
