I had this camera guys, and trust me, this thing breaks SO easily, the quality really isn't that great, its really grainy, and the zoom on it isn't all that great. I really do NOT suggest getting this camera.
@CamOfficialMusic Thanks for your valid comment. This camera was introduced to the market three years ago. It stands to reason that there are much higher quality, economical and better constructed cameras on the market today.
@dmacdonald001 you're welcome. personally, i think i should of spent 300 dollars on something else. its an okay camera for family photos or something, but not professional use.
so please can u suggest a best point and shoot camera whose night result and image in not noisy at dark and picture/video quality is also good. but should be economical
@wickybabu I have the Canon SX40HS right now, and I must tell you, I LOVE it. It's a little bit more than the SD780. The SD780 ranged around 300-380, and the SX40 is around 400. So for a little bit more, you get a WAY better camera. I HIGHLY suggest it.
but there's a problem,.. my budget is low so i decided to go for Canon ELPH 300 HS.......
honestly, what you say about this camera...... coz after spending almost a week,... this is the only one which is affordable with some good quality.... but i would really like ur opinion coz i haven't paid for it yet
and also..... i would like to know from u.... if u know any other nice camera like elph 300 hs which is budget friendly........, elph 300 is ranging about $160-$170
How did you import the video on to your computer and then into imovie keeping the HD quality. I can't figure it out and my videos while using this camera look "grain-ee"
@labeautechic I imported the video from the camera to iPhoto, then into iMovie. Make sure that your iMovie project is set up as HD. Also, if you shoot in low light you will end up with a very grainy video. Try shooting outdoors, with a tripod.
Hey I have this same camera but how do I get 720p HD. Only when I import the clip straight to YouTube, it gives me HD. What I want to know his, how can I edit my videos in movie maker, and still have it in HD, when I put it up on YouTube?
@Ompmovies You can only edit, and output HD movies if the program you are using supports HD video. Also, the program needs to support the HD format specific to your camera. I hope that helps!
@dmacdonald001 Does Sony Vegas Pro support HD, if I get it will I be able to edit and output my videos in HD. When I take the SD card out of the camera, and put it in my laptop. The video is a .MOV file when I see it in the SD card. I know that .MOV is for Mac computers, with programs like iMovie, so you edit it and still have HD, but I have a PC. So would it work If I edit my video thru Sony Vegas, and Save it , and upload it to YouTube?
I am very interested in getting this camera, but I heard when it is in video mode, there is a slight buzzing sound. I was wondering if you knew anything about it, or heard it when editing the video. Thank you.
@CheapHomeFilms The name of the music track is Pastel Slide Long. It is one of the sounds that comes with Apple iLife 06 in the Jingles sound folder. Hope that helps! Thanks for commenting.
I put music to it because the outdoor sound is crap. Especially when recording near the water where there is always wind. Plus, mixing video with different sound sources can be a challenge as well. Truth is, don't expect a lot from the audio recordings on this $199 pocket camera.
i think u shouldnt have put music on this.. that way we could get an understanding of how well sounds record also.. but the video quality is really good. NICE VIDEO dude!
I don't believe that it does. However, you can zoom... then record, but not while recording. Perhaps a future firmware update from Canon will make this a reality. Who knows! Thanks for the comment!

Nice video. Thanks for using a tripod. Most handheld videos look bad because of camera shake.Remember, when you press the shutter, it lock-in focus and exposure, that it why you can't zoom with it. Will be getting this one for the wife soon. Your video is one of the best one on Youtube. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. It's amazing how simple a still video can make a video look better. As a tip to everyone... I didn't use a tripod in any of these clips. I just found an object in the environment to place the camera on. Again, this is an advantage of using a small camera like the Canon SD780.
Yeah, the camera had trouble dealing with bright light changes when shooting in low and dim light. You can see this in this sample video. I assume it happens because of the small CCD, and the small, cheap, lens opening.
Hey, I purchased this camera today since I loved the quality of your videos but I went to use imovie and it doesn't recognize it....how do u edit or even upload it into your macbook ? I have a macbook pro imovie09 THANK
The files will be captured directly into iPhoto. When you open iMovie, you will be asked to allow it to create thumbnails of these files, then you will see them in the "Event Library" on the bottom right side of iMovie. They will be called iPhoto videos.
Hi - I connected the camera to my mac, and downloaded the photos and movies using iPhoto. Then, I would simply drag the movie clips I wanted to edit from iPhoto, into iMovie. I had no trouble at all... and never had with Canon products. Hope that works for you!
Honestly, I don't know. However, because the information is stored digitally, I wouldn't think that the card would have an effect on the quality. Digital records or it does not, it does not degrade like an analogue magnetic signal would.
i have this cam and i am shooting in HD settings but when i upload its only HQ do you know what my problem might be? i Also am editing in windows movie maker if that could possibly have something to do with it.
The HD setting is the setting that controls the video size. I think 1280 (HD) and 640 are the two video sizes on that camera. Set it to the largest one for HD video.
It's pretty noisy (image) but it's quite a bit better than my SD1000. I wouldn't even think of watching it full screen on my 15' laptop. With this I would (and did :) ).
I ordered this camera and I'm super hyped to get it! Let's see how it works out :D I currently have a Sony and I really like it, but it's too big and clunky, I saw this canon and I just had to have it (not to mention it has more megapixels than my current camera).

Someone else may be able to explain why this happens, but I assume it's a combination of small lens, and small/consumer level image sensor.
I can't wait to get mine! I read reviews on the noise you get during silent filming.... chances are the videos will be filled with noise from my subjects and if I shoot any quiet scenes, I will most likely throw in some music anyway. I am also getting a MacBook Pro to edit! Thanks for this video, it really shows of the camera's great video quality!
Was looking at this model in store, the model does feel pretty cheap and the buttons are quite hard to reach, like when switching to video mode. Whats your experience with this camera? Image quality is obviously very good but the model itself doesn't feel right.

You need to download some files into the Movie Maker folder, it's hard to explain for me, but do a Youtube search on: Windows Movie Maker HD
Or how to make HD video's in Windows Movie Maker or anything like that.
Sometimes, you don't even have to download anything.

In low light, the camera makes streaks from bright light sources. Over all I would call this a bad thing, but something you would have to live with considering the price point, and lens size/quality of this small camera.
