I remember seeing an outtake of these commercials. Florence flubbed a line after which she said "oh, (bleep)" She stared straight back at the camera and in a singsong voice said, "Mis-sus Bray-dee swore-ore". Maybe you had to see it yourself but I about peed laughing at that one.
I'm sure Carol Brady cooked occasionally. And she helped Alice Nelson, the Bradys' housekeeper. Alice was necessary for such tasks since there were eight people in the Brady household(Carol's three daughters and her husband Mike's three sons).
Does anyone remember a Wesson Oil commercial with a Black woman (pre-Florence days) who ends with the line, "without Wesson....you might as well boil it!"
I do! There is was, the enlightened 70s, and yet here was this stereotyped Black Mammy... heavy, everything. She even took a bite of the chicken and proclaimed "mmmmmmmm - MMMMMMMMM!!!!" I was surprised it ever made it to the airwaves. I figure they were safer with a caucasian stereotype.
@VelimTeFutuas No, you misunderstood my comment about the "mammy". Wesson did a similar ad before Florence Henderson, with a black spokeswoman. I was speaking as an ANTI racist, making fun of the racist portrayal of the woman in the previous ad. She was portrayed as a stereotyped mammy, and I was commenting on that.
Wesson chose to portray African Americans that way, at a time when people were realizing how silly and stupid that was.
I wish someone would upload the Wesson commercials where Florence sings about "Wessonality"! I still say that sometimes as a joke, and my kids have no clue what I'm talking about...
When I was little, these Wesson commercials used to give me the creeps. Now I just love to laugh at them

Thanks Florence! After buying that "all natural" line, I used Wesson to fry everything! Now I'm over 500 LBS! Thanks a lot!

Carol never did any cooking. And what would a big TV star know about cooking oil?

I don't remember the name of the African-American actress in this commercial, but I believe she was "Esther Sue" on "Little House on the Prairie".
