Nuvolari was the epitome of the racing driver. Many say the greatest. He was certainly a colorful figure but not flamboyant as he was married and had two children (sons, I believe who died before him). At the end of his career, he said that it would be proper and fitting that he die in a racing accident. Instead he died in the little village of Mantua, Italy from emphasema (spelling?) from inhaling the gas fumes from all the racing cars he had driven all his life.
What a lot of people don't realise that the germans were so confident about winning this race that they dedn't even have a copy of the Italian national anthem to play - no problems! Tazio always carried a spare record with him!
yeah he did some pretty extreme shit like driving with a crowbar instead of a steering wheel, crossing the finish line on 3 wheels, and of course the 1000 miglia race in which he drove without lights
dunno about that. he was defenetly insanely courageous, but so were f1 drivers and group b rally drivers from the mid 80s, racing those extreme turbocharged monsters.
Did he was a rival of Achille Varzi?

30" minuti nell'ultimo giro contro le audi molto piu potenti. ancora i tedeschi si chiedono come ha fatto

Alfas were the only choice to battle the mercedes silver arrows.
This race was epic.
they say that Henry Ford take his hat off when an alfa pass throw and Enzo Ferrari cried like a baby when he finally beats the alfas

It's being said that he had switched his lights off so as not to be seen by Achille Varzi and overtake him easier :) true or legend? You decide :D

Totally the greatest race driver of all time. He won that race in an outdated, underpowered car against the might of the third reich.
