  • the passed pawn dosent mean shit if theirs a rook on the proper side

  • So what happened.. did I miss something, did karpov resign?

  • Comment removed

  • @7:00 has any consideration in future analyses ever been given to Bxf4!? I'm assuming Karpov missed it because of the time constraints during the blitz game. This way, his knight would still be posted up high on e2 holding down the d4 and f4 squares and allow one of his rooks to line up on the e-file while both of Kasparov's knights are pinned....

Unless I'm missing a mating net or a gambit of some kind...

  • Great game, great commentary.

  • If karpov is white you have to put Karpov Vs Kasparov and not the other way around.

  • I like your style and chess analysis.

  • so who winn?

  • @Androsstudio kasparov

  • whats your chess rating? and whats the highest win % in history? Also whats mangus carlos win %

  • @angeriod idk but kasparov''s whas 69% hehe 69

  • @angeriod bobby fischer has the highest %

  • ok

  • 2:45, first move

  • just glancing, if h rook blocks, black bishop has no play, and i don't see the white bishop as a threat once rook moves up to e7...don't see any advantages for white in pawn trades either

  • for me chess was ALWAYS interesting

  • nice

  • @PokemonPuzzleJudge afte e7?, which is another blunder, queen simply takes rook, white promotes on f1 best move, comes with check. Kf1 and white is hopelessly losing. Best is rook takes queen, queen takes rook check, white king moves and black bishop takes white, crushing white and winning easily.

  • Given that Kasparov was playing black, the title of the video should be Karpov vs. Kasparov. Small detail but is confusing.

  • @karljobst IN all chess game titles Kasparov deserves to be first IMO just cuz he is KASPAROV

  • j'adore l'intro !!

  • blax23

  • quien es kien?

    kasparov juega cn las blancas?

  • nose ingles...

  • @CentralClaudio Por lo visto tampoco español por que no se escribe "nose ingles..." se escribe : no se inlges. pfffffffff

  • I wonder if you meant that Kasparov was leading the 1984 match 5-3? Of course it was Karpov who was leading 5-3.

  • escaque64yconcafe.blogspot.com/

  • When Ne6 is played, why black dont play Nb3, capturing the pawn and threatening the white's queen?

  • @CHStriker83 bcos the knight would then take the left rook also threatening the queen.

  • ese pinche nariz de machete realmente es bueno!! xD

  • how do you spell vee-un-keto?

  • @toiletscrubbr fianchetto

  • Justin Biiber is better! (sarcasm) :)

  • @Rahetor2 ???????????????? idiot

  • @jrobichess At 7:15, why didn't Kasparov take the pawn on b5 with his queen, equalizing material and attacking white's pawn on b3? I know it takes an attacker off of d5, but white would also have to lose a defender from d5 (namely, the queen or the rook) in order to defend b3. Plus, the knight move to d4 would still have been possible. Am I missing something here?

  • @xHaloFan4Lifex Then Ne6 would work, forking the rooks. Then ... Bxd5 Nxd8 1-0. I guess.

  • @Paddamtsssj oh sorry you got there before me.

  • wath color is Karpov?

  • @owengordo White

  • thanks man, this is cool

  • best chess video.

  • After spending hours going through chess videos on YouTube and correcting people that didn't know what they were talking about, it is so refreshing to come across a video like this one. The analysis was great, well documented, and an all around great job.

Thank you very much! Fantastic job :)

  • please never stop uploading videos like this. as a new chess enthusiast, i can't even describe how interesting and well done this was. thank you so much.

you might consider making some videos describing different scenarios and deeper level chess strategy.

    again, thank you so much

  • surely the position is over for white. The passed pawn is meat and the bishops cant do much else in their support

  • Karpov was leading 5 - 3. Not Kasparov. What would of happened if it continued in 1984 is any ones guess? But the momentum was with Karsparov.

What I hate in World Chess is this retain title on draw shit.

The challenger comes through so much to get to the final and then the champion can just be cagey and retain.

Karpov drew 12-12 with Kasparov in 1987.

Bronstein with Botvinnick same score years before.

Anyway you don't really know who is better. 1 point clear should be the rule..

  • the black beshop is taking the powm I mean the next move after karpov's Kinght move.

  • after Karpov moved the knight, black takes the Pd5 and black lets the white to take the rok either one he wants. think of this way

  • you make the best chess videos! rock on!

  • I feel again the epicness of chess as i did discover it on dota..

  • @mukmin01 lol never thought i'd see a mention of dota in a chess video but ya i know what you mean

  • @mukmin01 hell yeah

  • It appears he doesnt want to loss the advantage, although you can argue about an open board and two bishops aganist two castels. The knight scarifice protected his pawns and he swaps a castel for bishop.

On an open board the foul rules often, not a bad play. He just didn't want to loss the pawn if you ask me- so forced the knight away. If he left it the knight would have attacked the queen also potencially weakening the central line.

  • @jrobichess cont...

08.45 White is up a pawn not down. My answer below, you'll be suprised what some players will do to say up a piece.

  • @099749 White is down a pawn..

  • @RsGhost1

White ends with 6 pawns black has five. White is up a pawn not down to be down a pawn he'd need to have four.

  • @099749 Being down a pawn, means being down one point in material, Which happens to be the case.

  • @RsGhost1

No being down a pawn is being down a pawn, being down a point is being down a point. Pawns and points are not the same thing, interchangable you clearly see them, but then I have never played for points. Personally rather than going round and round disputing pawns and points why dont we just agree were both right in different ways, and talking in different terms, although surely having more pawns should mean he has not lost points so again should be up not down but I dont point play

  • @099749 It's chess slang m8.. don't make a big fuss

  • @RsGhost1

    I'm not.

  • I like your graphics with the arrows showing the moves. It easier to follow and elucidate, and the pace is perfect. You have the finest game review videos by far imho.

  • from that great position if i had to guess it would of played out as a draw if no blunders were made P.S. comp would probly say white has slight advantage only because white always leads giving it the initial advantage

  • Appreciate your analys on this , good job but why is the black upside down and the screen is too wide makes the squares look rectangle.

  • At 6:33 it's g3 and not g4.

  • 69 win percentage over 23 games... ahahahahaha.....69...

  • @Jimmy838123 why are you laughing

  • Thanks for the Video

  • What the Champions

  • from 6:34 i feel as though kasparov could not have done better to achieve the board position at 7:20 that seems like a huge shift in position of power to me.

  • jrobi why at 06:59 he doesnt capture with his darksquare bishop??

  • @salvinluckys knight seems better because there is the outpost on e6, plus it brings the piece closer to the center of the board and also setting possible discovered atacks. If captures with knight, then black rook to e8 would pose some trouble to white.

  • All these videos make chess too accessible for everyone... hard to become the world chess champion when everyone is going after the same thing

  • awesome video man! nice job

  • Kasparklunk demolished Karpov in this match 9-3. I thought it would be a lot closer as Karpov is suppose to be a very good rapid player, and has still been active in tournament chess.

  • You are so right. Nd4 was just an amazing moment and it would be really interesting to see the lines that would happen if they played it out fully.

  • Lenght of the board is 8 inches and width is 5 inches LOL Shouldnt be equal??

  • Thing was, in Valencia 2009 Karpov and Kasparov played four rapid games plus eight blitz games. Kasparov won 9-3 btw. ;) And you are right, Karpov was actually running out of time in this match, that's why this match ended 0-1 at Ne6.

  • because kasparov won... lol

  • what chess program do you use ?

  • you are a very nice teacher. I like your videos a lot. thank you for showing all the videos.

  • I don't fully understand Karpov's 7:13, Nb5...after the trade Nxb5 I see only disadvantages. I think it was to stop ...Bxc3; Qxc3 and then Bxd5 maybe?

Maybe white didn't have better alternatives?

  • why at that special point .. you know.. when the knight removed two defenders.. so why did karpov resign?? if he kept going he could defend the pawn with the knight and the bishop.......

  • Clash of the K's more like it

  • Comment removed

  • How much time do the players have?

  • @TheMomsen123 I ask the same question, why?

  • Keep up the good work with these videos. Subbed.

  • I just wanted to say, it wasn't because of this video in particular, but one of the instructional vids that I was able to beat my chess program on level 10(the highest level) for the first time. I cant tell you how happy I was, it was my own personal Stanley Cup or Super Bowl victory.

  • you've sparked an interest for chess i didn't even think i had

  • i dont agree with the two best chess players facing off against each other. what about bobby

  • @SyracuseLax09 He wasn't as good as either of them at that time; in the Fischer-Spassky match from 1992, it was pretty clear that his skill had diminished a bit.

  • This was a biltz match?!

  • at 3:48, why didnt white just capture blacks pawn at c6? Its a free piece.

  • @tatomuck18 because white would lose his queen qith an uncastled queen which would force the king to move , also if white captured it opens up the centre for black

  • @tatomuck18 because then the queen would be wide open for the taking

  • @tatomuck18 P.S on c5. Its tactics. Capturing breakes white,s center so thats good for black.

  • Hey, excellent commentary. I think often with Grand masters, we don't understand the reasons behind every move we make untill we get to that level of understanding or study it intensely. Also to jrobichess - Just wanrt to thank you for uploading these videos. You have done alot of promote chess to people and for the chess community. I really appreciate it :)

  • Jay Ro Bitches!!!

  • i guess the 'giving up' is obvious... for one the white pawns on B line are obviously verry weak... at the other end the defence of black pawns at h/g is quite solid.. the middle pawn.. the white pawn is not going to be able to be saved once black decides to put up pressure with his peaces INCLUDING his king .. which how ever you put it will conclude in once again structural loss.. AND carpov is already behind >:)

  • i like the pision because for me i would take the pawn on b3 then swing my knight back then captuare the other pawn. But well done to both men!!!

  • at 7.30 he also cuts out a defender to d 5 with the threat of the fork on king queen maybe wasnt mentioned due to the simplicity but worth mentioning

  • The 1984 match was halted with KARPOV not Kasparov leading 5 - 3.

  • Very good annotation. Nice job.

  • I really love chess, but my brain really hurts now from thinking >.< :P

  • 2 great players with two totally different chess styles

  • karpov's wife was in labor and he had to attend missing the game but when he returned judges had issues with him thinking about the match so the two never got to finish the game -- source: my grandfather from Bangladesh had known karpov to be within the hospital and even took a picture of him inside the hospital where his wife was having a miracle :)

  • @MsMusicLoverXD hahahahaa karpov was like 70 something years old in 2009. what you say cant possibly be true...

  • @chrism216 He was 57, dude... he can belive me :D

  • Are you Canadian? cus when you said "stopped" you make it more "staapped" which is totally awesome! haha, i love canada

  • You're the best jrobichess. i love watching chess games.

  • Watch this dramatic 1 min. chess promo!!! search

    2010 Ontario Chess Open Championships

  • at the end if he did double the rooks on the d file bishop c6 would be a big threat to queen the past pawn and black would either lose a rook or give the exchange back

  • its nan interesting game indeed but i would surely want to play with the best chess player in the world here in the phillipines many chess player want to play with the best player in the world

  • ae you good at chess?

  • Just a clarification on the introduction about the match in 1984. You get a wrong impression here, it was actually Karpov who was in the lead by 5-3 before they stopped it.

  • @rimbaud65 Yeah, but you also have to realize that Karpov was leading 4-0 in the beginning of the match, and after they drew 17 games, he won game 27 making it 5-0. Then they made further draws until game 32, which was Kasparov's first ever win against Karpov. Then 15 more draws. You could tell Kasparov was getting better and better and Karpov was getting tired. They both wanted to continue playing but it was up to the Russian government. The reason it was stopped was purely political.

  • did Kasparov ever face Fisher??

  • nope. they never played one another. Fischer more or less flaked out and disappeared in the late 70s. Kasparov hit the scene in the early 80s.

  • thanks men

I´m a begginer but I found very interesting the world of chess

It would have been the best match ever!!

  • Never realised Chess was this interesting, wow!

  • @Murreh Yup Jrobi, you got me addicted to chess. I play all day every day and watch your videos. I'm getting better but my girlfriend still kicks my ass.

  • Comment removed

  • @Murreh This just proves that it is very difficult to explain something you dont really understand. "From here now we swing, shift and jump bla bla bla......" Just awful

  • @Murreh of course it is =]

  • i dont think it was a blunder whatsoever

in this position the bishops are absolutely devastating, covering all of the diagonals. only thing is hes gonna have to deal with blacks pass pwns on the right side

  • Why do you tell this from black's perspective and put Kasparov's name first?

  • This is a video, not a PGN file. All videos from the series will begin with the title as is. Thanks for checking it out!

  • Btw, thanks for saying Kasparov's name right, usually in English-speaking countries they say KAsparov, not like it should be - KaspArov :)

  • @jrobichess and why the hell are you so sick of PGN file format ? What's wrong with it ?

In football, the first team name is always the team who owns the land, and the second team is guest at the first team.

And in chess, the first name stands for white and the second is black player.

    Anyway, thanks for sharing!

  • @jrobichess Up for teaching some strategies? =P

  • @jrobichess i find the positon favouring black.. i think karpov blundered before i think he felt like losing thats why he did knight exchange... i cant believe the doubled pawns are good for white....and i still cant believe the computer favours white

  • @jrobichess Just horrible from here now swinging and jumping. Its like a russian librarian trying to cover american football. Plain funny, but also awful, weird, corny, naive and stupid.

  • @elvarg991 No need to be a total cunt about it - if you don't like his videos (or the way he talks), then quit watching them.

  • @jrobichess cont...

07.56 Final point he does a few things with that move, he takes the knight away from it's central position, protects his pawns, doesnt risk a knight playing arround with his queen, losses a tower but keeps his pawn advantage and as you say it's very playable with two bishops. Why he resigns is interesting, 8.38 anybodies game still. I don't see a blunder there really.

  • @Zelrio28 im guessing because alot of times your computer screen probably looks like this! but really who care... good vid good comentary man, i always wonder what you chess comentators look like in person do like just imagine if you were a juiced out bodybuilder commentating on chess. Love the vids man

  • Kasparov is the best all time all know that , but he plays werry boring il think, my favorit all time gose to the one end only mr Morphy.

  • is kasparov still the best player in the history of the game?

  • he's definitely one of the best but he's not the actual current world number 1, it's some young 19 year old kid that Kasparov is training up....think about what a lucky mother fella this kid is....i'd give my left nut to have Gary Kasparov as my chess tutor.

  • That kid would be Magnus carlsen, and I would also give my left nut to be tutored by Kasparov xD

  • @BeauG1990 That is most likely Magnus Carlsen from my home country, Norway ^^ But i know nothing about chess though. Fun to watch these reviews. although i'd like to know who won this exact match!!

  • bobby fischer is was the best.

  • 2009 was a great year for chess!!!

  • great vid keep them coming

  • Keep making nice chess videos.

  • These two legends are nuts! They built up so much in the center, that it might just hold there for couple more turns...that's what i think until each other finds a weakness that they could use, but i think Black would have to go in first to get that White pawn out of the way

  • very interesting!

however, it's little bit too fast for me....= =

could you please explain more and speak more slowly?

    thanx!!

  • You are very, very good at analyzing. I think it would have been good for you to spend more time examining possible lines of attack about that knight on d4.

  • Hi j. As with all your commentaries you have done a superb job at explaining elements and stratagy of the game. You have def play the biggest part of my game development. I appriciate that! I think i heard you say on one video that you dont by any means consider yourself to be a grandmaster, but you are def a master and well on your way to becoming a grandmaster! thanx

  • in case someone didn't already tell you, karpov ran out of time. good analysis jrobi!

  • Very good analasys dude. I am impresed! Nice job..

  • great videos, prefer the older music you had for your intro section though

  • nice video

    it helped do my project

  • Emocionante, ahora ya paso toda su rivalidad.Juegan,no combaten.Las ideas estan en los 64 escaques.

  • What was the amount of time they were limited to?

  • Wouldn't moving the Pawn from b3 to b4 bring back the queen and rook into defending the center of the board?

  • Could you message me the pgn of the two games?

  • 1bxd5,nxd5.2.qxe5,bxe5.3kf3+ knight forks the queen

  • i am talking about the position that this video is discussing.

  • If Kasparov is playing black why does the title say Kasparov vs. Karpov, or was that just a mistake?

  • It's the title of a video not a PGN file. =)

  • I understand... Just wondering.

  • Why didn't Karpov capture the pawn with the bishop instead of the knight?

  • thanks for uploading

  • Thanks for checking it out simplehemz!

  • thnx for uploading

  • Thanks H!
