  • cyndi is pure genius, enough said

  • Wonderful version. Great singer. Awesome music.

  • Best song of Cyndi Lauper! love you and Lady Gaga

  • Nice version. I always liked her. Cute too.

  • This verion kicks the orginal's ass. Sorry Marvin. lol

  • Magic

  • She really has voice and something to say, unlike most artist now.

  • Cindy is so underappreciated for her amazing talent!!!

  • Moving piece, I get it. Like this video if you get it too.

  • I love it!

  • no public enemy here :(

  • Ma chanteuse préférée avec Madonna pour leurs exentricité, leur provocation, leur coiffure délirante, et bien sur leur beauté.

  • 15 people don't see what's going on.

  • where the hell is chuck d at?

  • @3rdminist3r Chuck D is the black guy playing the violin and xylophone. He also sings "What's Going On"

  • i love this version. it just makes you shout your angry out loudly.

  • I love Cyndi and her music ... and fucking despise VEVO ... I'm tired of seeing VEVO and the stupid motherfucking commercials before all my favorite videos ... fucking assholes ... fuck a VEVO

  • @YFLOInternational i don't mind the commercials. After all, why would I expect not to pay for the videos? It's a small price indeed to enjoy the wonderful videos I love. And I believe Cyndi Lauper would also receive some small royalty from VEVO, for the ad revenue. I am happy to contribute in my small tiny way to the artists that I admire and whose work I enjoy.

  • I love her clothing!!!

  • i have this song without that whole solo part at 2:45...what version do i have?? i'm so confused!

  • cindy te amoooo

  • 아주 호소력있는 음색과 개성있는 아름다운 외모를 가졌죠...

  • Cyndi, I first discovered your music in 1983. You came into my life with realism and a passion unbridled. I have enjoyed your sincerity and depth of talent, along with that comedic value you see in life. Keep writing girl, you will never be too old to wow them all.

  • she performed this song on tour in her first concert in Rome in July.... impressive, she's too stunning to be true

  • Great song. Great vocals. No matter what song she does you can tell she puts her heart and soul into it. I heard her say in an interview not too long ago that she likes to do songs that have a story. I wrote a song that has a story and think fits her style.

I've been trying to contact her but have not succeeded. You can see the song on You Tube. It's titled Harpo - US if you have any suggestions of how I could get this to her I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

  • Simplesmente maravilhoso.

época maravilhosa e brilhante foi os anos 80,queria ter nascido nessa época...Deus traga a felicidade de volta a nossos corações!!!

  • she is very unique artist!

  • Cyndiiiii ♥ Gente, madona nada, só mais cyndi *-*

  • @Martharejani CLARO CYNDI LAUPER LA MEJOR Y ARRIBA LA UNICA REINA DEL POP DE TODO EL UNIVERSO

  • I love Cyndi and I always loved this song, she does it justice, many don't when it is re-done... God bless you Cyndi, a Fan forever!!

  • All these people bitching about this cover vs. the original need to really stuff it. She paid tribute to fantastic song, presumably because she was a fan of it. The original was not removed from the face of the earth, it will always be there for you to enjoy. Just keep it movin' if you're not feeling this version...

  • @D3ADKENNEDY, I think it's more of she does not have the chops to cover a beautiful composed and sang so beautifully by Marvin Gaye.

If a person does not have the ability to improve on a song then they should leave it alone like Billy Idol trying to do the Doors L.A. Woman. They just lack the dept.

I like Cyndi as a person but don't care much for Pop anything.

No one is complaining about Girls just want to have fun and Time after Time.

I hope she does not try singing any Joni Mitchell songs.

  • Luv me some Cyndi!

  • Lauper picked the wrong song as she lacks the depth for this anthem on the turmoil of the 60s & 70s. This was a protest song about the Vietnam War, the environment and strife happening especially in the black communities.

Marvin Gaye "What's Going On / What's Happening Brother"

    watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s

She should stick to Girls just want to have fun and other pop tunes.

Please watch the Marvin Gaye clip to see what this song is about.

  • In 1969 or 1970, I began to re-evaluate my whole concept of what I wanted my music to say... I was very much affected by letters my brother was sending me from Vietnam, as well as the social situation here at home. I realized that I had to put my own fantasies behind me if I wanted to write songs that would reach the souls of people. I wanted them to take a look at what was happening in the world.

    —Marvin Gaye

This song was not meant for "Pop" music.

  • This "Pop" version is a compete destruction of the original by Marvin Gaye.

Before any of you flip out, please just listen to the original by Marvin Gaye on Youtube.

"What's Going On" far too political to be promoted on radio and too unusual compared with the popular music sound of that time to be commercially successful Gaye, however, stood his ground and continued to lobby his case to label executives and to Gordy, as he did not want to be bound by Gordy's or Motown's version of music.

  • ME TRAE AL AÑO 86 CUANDO ERA ADOLESCENTE Y ME HACE RECORDAR ALA CHICA QUE TANTO ME AMO Y NUNCA SUPE VALORAR SU AMOR. ATI J.R.M.

  • Cyndi hit #12 in Billboard, 5-9-87. I can see her playin' this on her trombone. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • ME TRAE UN BONITO RECUERDO CUANDO ERA ADOLESCENTE Y ALA PRIMERA ENAMORADA QUE TUVE JHENNY ROSAS MEDRANO

  • Je l'aime ... je l'aime ... je l'aime

  • Where was Chuck D, lol?

  • so weaz chuck.d lol

  • luv this song

  • gosh I really like her voice... im not too old im 22 but michael jackson john lennon and cindi i like it

  • East Coast Girl still rockin strong!!!! Saw her on Wendy Williams Show and I was just soo fascinated with not only her musical talent but the humanitarian side of Cyndi as well. She NEVER forgot her friends or family when she made it big!!Very loyal and giving --a true ARTIST!!!

  • One of the coolest singing one of the coolest songs ever! You go with your bad self Miss Cyndi!

  • " don't punish me with brutality..just talk to me.."

  • very, very nice!!

  • I so love this version so much...it makes me sing it aloud :)

  • This song should had been a huge hit, dont get why it had not, to me it's a classic

  • 0: 45 , Lady gaga Judas (tears) .

  • 80's pop

  • Il like the Marvin Gaye version,but I prefer Cyndi's version.Cyndy makes this song wonderful,becase she's wonderful.

  • @supernini1968 This is nothing like close to being as great as Marvin Gaye's ORIGNAL VERSION. You sound dumb af.

  • cause only love can conquer hate...leave it to R&B to make a cheesy line sound kool!!

  • she jazzed up an already jazzed up jam!!!

  • amo muito vc cind

  • Kanye west remind me of Cyndi lauper ---- being different in their eras and making music everybody can listen to without jumping on the band wagon as surrounding artist

  • I liked the original better, but this is good...

  • @daniyellowjello That goers without saying. The original will always be the best version but there were a lot of people who remade songs that were just as good as the original and this was good cause Cyndi always sang with emotion and all of her soul. A truly great artist from the 80s.

  • where's Chuck D?

  • you rock..cyndi i love you....this is the best song ever,,,,

  • That is a misguided cover version.

  • I thought this would be a cover of 4 Non Blondes, not Marvin Gaye.

  • @pinkchair 4 non blondes didn't form until 3 years after this came out...

  • @amanofmathematics Thanks for the info! Having only known Cyndi from "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", it was surprising to me to see her do this cover.

  • @pinkchair You can't judge a book from it's cover but where is chuck d? Was he invisible?

  • @reggie46404 It's not the same chuck D, lol.

  • @GodsBurden OK was he the producer or something?

  • me encanta ......

  • really really nice.

  • I think Cyndi is hot!

  • The 80's were great. Miss being young during that time.....I've always loved Cyndi Lauper.

  • Britsh accent !

  • There were very few artists in the the 80's who truly put feeling into their Songs. Cyndi Lauper was without a doubt, at the top of the list for Artists who put their whole being into their Music. When she sang about something painful, you could feel her Pain, and when it was Upbeat, you could feel that as well. I was pretty much a metal Head in the 80's, but not so far gone to not appreciate a real artist when I heard one. And Cyndi Lauper was then and is now what I would call an artist.

  • @smccray01 was in luxembourg last night and take my word for it all you wrote up there is still very true today!

  • @smccray01 Are you kidding? The eighties were all about HEART and soul. There was no other decade that created more original, truly talented individuals. Cindy is just one shining example of the raw beauty that blossomed in the eighties, just before record companies decided to capitalize on it by turning it into a money making formula that forever destroyed any future chance at such creativity.

  • @smccray01 you're talkin crap..there were a lot of great artist in the 80's..is one of my fav musical eras..i suppose you being a metal head, didn't paid much of attention to other types of music.

  • @botezalexandru Um, if you actually read the comment, he says he liked metal but, unlike many other metal heads, appreciated "real artists" that didn't fit into his niche and counts her among them. Derp

  • wheres chuck d?

  • OEonomineO.... I understand you perfectly and it is razonable the way you think... but is only because 80's music it was so good, I was lucky of be a teenager at those times... Now I am 38 and remember it with nostalgia.

Cindy ... What a good singer

  • I think I was born in the wrong era. Everything about the 80's and early 90's is so attractive to me. I get nostalgic over it, and I was born in 1990 x.x

  • LOL. 14... Really. LOL. Cyndi Lauper was born in 1953, That would make her 30 years old when she put out her first album.

  • @smccray01 so? you dont have to be young to be a great singer (:

  • @Ladypurpulhair I agree. I was commenting on whoever it was who was saying that she was a Teen when she was putting out all this music. LOL>

  • @smccray01 it would actualy make her 27 as she realeased her first album with the Band Blue Angle in 1980 :p

  • She is so cute and has talent...I love her...She is the best of the best!!

  • this song is the Marvin Gaye, the interpretation of Cindy Lauper is great

  • I wish I was born in the 80's!!

  • @Chick17Hottie Well, I was born in the 80's and I wish I was born in the 60's and to be 20 yrs in the 80's ;)

  • @ameliedaee: Lol yeah or I wish I was born in 70s also.

  • @ameliedaee I was....and I was...and it was fucking awesome!!!!!!!!

  • Didn't know she remade this one. Her version is interesting. Marvin can't be outdone on this one, though.

  • One of the greatest female artists of all time!

  • Love her makeup great job on the classic ...

  • so pretty here. I love her kooky dance moves.

  • im just so glad that I share the same lifetime as cyndi, give or take a few years either way and may have completely miss her!

  • The world would be empty without Cyndi Lauper in it.

  • @zzzyt114 I know how you feel. <3

  • the 80's will live on forever!

  • 5 people have no idea what's going on...

  • You Go Cindi!!!!! Marvin would be proud!!!!!!

  • Interesting take on Marivn Gayes song I like it.

  • I love her voice and she has great style. :) I am happy they posted this up. May the 80's live on forever.

  • Cyndii The Best of The BEST " LOVE " <3

  • truly amazing! what a talented lady!

  • @hotblondie111 , true colors is still one of my favorite songs. :)

  • Cyndi louper I love you I love your music

  • one of the best covers in RnR history. i didn't say it was better than marvin's orig, but she just nails this song.

  • @oranger2525 , what?????? You think this is better than Marvin Gaye's version. Okay. I don't agree, but I guess that's your opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • @oranger2525 , you know what, kid, let's just say I did misread your comment, what the hell is all the anger and belligerence for? I said, even if you felt that way, it's your opinion. I just don't agree with it. So, what's your deal? Do you have emotional problems or something?

  • @me57487 yeah, i do have emotional problems. ;-)

  • She will always rule!!!!

  • Great song & great message, "we need to find a way to bring back love & understanding today"

  • I Met Cyndi Lauper!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Love her so much she is my hero she is a wonderful person full of life! i will always be a fan 4ever cyndi will be in my heart!

  • @CyndiLaupersFan my mom met her a couple of times in new england when she was younger, she was a flower lover, shopped at my moms store a lot and bought lots of flowers apparantly.

  • @TheGreenPlague Wow Thats So Cool Wat Kind Of Flowers Did She Buy?

  • @CyndiLaupersFan dunno, this was back in the very early 80's, and i never got specific details. But she was apparantly a very good customer and had a great attitude because my mom liked her, and my mom was never a part of the 'revolution' lol. Cyndi Lauper dressed defferently and had the whole thing she was doing in full effect back then, when not many people were doing it. interesting woman to say the least.

  • where is chuck in this video?

  • i slap her mom

  • i like this version BETTER than the original!

  • @LadyScorpio39 close, but not quite.

  • Cyndi is so pretty i love her sooooooooooooooooo much god bless cyndi lauper <3

  • I love her happy, frolicking, almost joyful energy. When I watch this video I feel almost like crying for some reason.

  • Well done Cyndi! I love this video. I'm sure Marvin would like it as well.

  • I love this song and HER!

  • isnt that a wonderfull rendition of that ol song

  • Wow wow wow!!!!

  • While no one can top Marvin Gaye's first and definitive version of this song, Cyndi does a great job with this: She infuses it with a youthful and almost joyful energy, despite the serious subject matter--love the scatting she does throughout.

  • I personally thought the verses were arranged perfectly in this version until she got to that sloppy chorus. The chorus disappointed me big time

  • you're a very good artis and i love your videos keep doing wht your doing cyndi. i ex. love girls just want to have fun, and whats going on.

  • i'm 13 and sometimes i wish i lived in the 80' s. :)

  • @6teenTDfan me too

i dont wanna live right now

  • @6teenTDfan Same thing for me i am 13 too!

  • My God hearing this song by Cyndi brought chills to my bones.....I know she isn't the original singer but boy oh boy she does an amazing job.

  • I can't ever listen to 80's music without feeling a jab of sadness cause I know it will never get any better than this-

  • i wouldent mind being 14 in the 80s

  • @Kaciily I love the 80s!! The music, movies, fashion, all of it. I wish I was 15 in the 80s too

  • @lizbetfetti yeah it would be awesome i could wear all this awesome stuff that would be cool! and the music like you mentioned would awesome

  • @Kaciily My teen years were the 80's and I think they can only be topped by the 70's.

  • @Kaciily she was fourteen in the eighties. She's pretty old here

  • @greensparklydonuts

She was in her late 20's, early 30's. What planet are you from lol <: D

  • @Kaciily I'm 35 now showing a 14 yr old the same video (nice moment for us too) o/ peace

  • @Kaciily LOL...just remember that we didn't have the internet in the 80's; some of us actually relied on artists like this for us to not feel so alienated. True Colors was a breakthrough that way...

  • @Kaciily at rather be 14 at the 80s than now i wish iwas born back then

  • @Kaciily it was cool not like today............

  • @Kaciily Damn, it was such a GREAT decade, but i'm kinda glad i wasn't a teenager during it. ;)

  • Hit #12 pop, #29 AC in Billboard. God bless!

  • 80's RULE!!! haha for real

  • This isn't bad but Marvin Gaye does it a couple hundred times better.
