  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah, I see. Your right, I bet thats were that rumor came from. See, here in Knoxville (I'm a probie I just started a month ago), our station is next to the interstate (I-40), and we usually run lights and sirens almost 99% of the time. Unfortunately, there are idiots everywhere. Whats worse for us are responses downtown to the University of Tennessee. The people on the strip are brain dead college + beer = bad combo.

Good Stuff though, nice talking with you smitty.

  • I see that you had mostly green lights the entire way, and there was some type of small white flashing light on the signal pole. Is this some type of Opticom system that you guys have? And what does the flashing light indicate to you? Thanks. (By the way, I'm in California and it scared me seeing you go Code 3 as you passed people on the right. I guess the laws are different there, but out here that is a big no-no).

  • This is a traffic traffic preemption device it lets us know when the lights are green

  • Well isn't that a shame. Then again Californians can't drive. No offense but in most states (outside of the unusually weird California state) units are allowed to pass on the right or left. True, passing on the left is preferred but response is based on due regard. Due regard being, drive carefully, clear intersection, and maneuver though traffic quickly, and safely.

SO, if that means going on the right then do so. Always helps to look outside of CA, since you guys have your own weird rules.

  • Well, California might be weird to you...and that's okay. But the thing about passing to the right is there for a good reason. In California, the law says that drivers must "pull to the right" and yield to emergency vehicles. Therefore, when someone obeys the law and pulls to the right, if they smash into an emergency vehicle it is not their fault---it's the fault of the emergency vehicle. The driver of the other car was just doing what the law says to do.

  • There is one weird law in California regarding emergency vehicles....they must have one steady burning red lamp facing forward in order for it to be "legal". Vehicles can have all of the flashy things they want to, but you will always see at least one steady burning red lamp facing forward on all police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. I have no idea why California has this law, but it's a pain in the a*s when purchasing/setting up a light package.

  • Oh I know smitty, and your right. In a perfect world cars are SUPPOSE to pull to the right. However, they don't not when you throw kids, cell phones, and portable dvd players into the mix. But, yeah I understand what your saying. Sometimes though you gotta go (box fires, structure fires etc). That red light thingy is interesting.

Ps: Is it true that emergency vehicles aren't allowed to run code 3 on the interstate in califorinia to an accident unless its on the interstate?

  • Nope---not true. Emergency vehicles run Code 3 on the interstate all the time while enroute to other details that are located elsewhere. That rumor might have started because oftentimes we will shut down the lights/siren and just go in the fast lane, and then turn everything on again once we are off the freeway. This is because going Code 3 on the freeway really isn't much faster than just driving in the fast lane. Besides, on the freeway, people are idiots and don't know what to do!

  • Is the camera fixed? I noticed on your vids it stays straight ahead.

  • yes , the camera is fixed ..kinda a downside.

  • you do some great videos, keep up the great work

  • did they have a working fire on arrival

  • turned out to be a fire in the freezer unit, Crews from the 41 engines and staff knocked it down with a dry chem. We were shorlty returned after there was no threat of fire and power was secured

  • Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

  • The opticom at that stoplight at 2:01 didn't go off. Was that fixed? Then when you got on the scene the cars at the stoplight ahead of you had to stop because of the opticom. Great video, and that traffic control looks cool! Great video!

  • Nice vid. What kind of truck was that when you were pulling up to the house?

  • Sitting out front was a Traffic unit. Does this answer your question?

  • Thanks and yes it does.
