So at first I was feeling really smug because I knew all the answers and that never happens for me in Jeopardy... then I realized it's because I'm 12 years older than these kids were :/
How was it like to be on Jeopardy? Was it scary? Was it exciting? Is it like one of those times where it gets scary at first then you get used to it? Thanks :)
@maggio211 Glad you approve :D Since we're talking trivia here, I think I've only seen one or two other episodes with closer scores before FJ - do you have any stats on that?
It was a lot of fun :) And I'd encourage anyone to try out - I feel like they ask more questions that have to do with literature, history, politics, and all that than pop culture. Sure, there always is some sort of pop culture, but you don't need to get every question right to win! :)
I cheered for David like it was the presidential race all over again! Then I called my mum and had her watch it and she was cheering for him too. But all those children are incredibly smart. When they hit the first math question...Wow! They ought to do a follow up sometime with these kids, a "Where Are They Now" kind of thing. Thanks Neville for the post.
You played a good game in both this and "Crosswords", Neville. I can tell you now that I never would have survived the bonus round in "Crosswords". You've got guts.
He does, its just not noticible cause of his big white teeth! He may have had braces...I have a friend like that, she got braces, and looked like that for a long time!
Dude that sucks. You were amazing in the main part of the show and I liked the Bob Saget joke. The final jeoparty question was just tough luck, no one goes around memorizing people's pet's names.
That may be so, but when its a famous teenager, who has a little brother named Harry, thats a dead give away, especially when you're a teenage girl who has a crush on the then, not so balding, Prince William.
You gave up everything!!! You and that little girl..I'm just kidding, you did a fantastic job, I would have froze up completely if I was you...lol Suprised that you got so many the the Ballet questions right.
Absolutely! But back in 2000, I don't think that William and Harry were in the news as much on this side of the pond, and the fact that eleven and twelve year olds like us didn't do much newsreading at the time didn't help, either!
They were easy questions compared to normal Jeopardy, but for preteens I could definitely see how those would be hard. Heh, you're a chess player? Me too, although I haven't been into it as much lately. Went to a lot of tournaments when I was that age though.
It's been the same since 1999. 2000 for second 1000 for third and the winner gets what he/she scores with a guaranteed minimum of about $10k. If it were done in the UK cash prizes wouldn't exist.
My High School English teacher was a contestant on Jeopardy (the regular adult variety), and he lost on a much more ridiculous question than that one. Did they send you home with a year's supply of Rice-a-Roni or anything? *L*
Yes, Kids Week episodes do have easier question than regular play shows. If you ring in before the question ends, you are actually locked out from ringing in again until a fraction of a second after the clue is read. For it to count, you must ring in after lights on either side of the gameboard (not shown on camera) light up - these always light up after Alex finishes reading the clue aloud.
No - that's how old I was when then was taped, so your judgment is completely fair! :) I felt silly for missing Roswell, though, because Mom and I were talking about Roswell on the flight out the LA to tape the show because we more or less flew over the town!
Again, you wager before the clue comes up. In order to win, I would've needed to bet $4801 to beat David if he did a full bet (which he did.) Ariel could've beaten me with the bet she made (had she gotten the correct response) no matter what I wagered. There's no outstanding reason not to risk the additional $399.
This is probably my favorite set that they've done for the show - also a fan of the metal grid background from the early 90s. Fun fact: the marble-looking ball at the bottom of Alex's podium is actually made of cardboard; I know because I kicked it :) Also, like most game shows, the set is much smaller in person.
So at first I was feeling really smug because I knew all the answers and that never happens for me in Jeopardy... then I realized it's because I'm 12 years older than these kids were :/

Why when they don't have an answer in final jeopardy do they risk all their money?
Really why
yugi8880 3 years ago
I've answered this before, but I will answer it again:
You wager before you see the clue - once the clue is shown, you can't change your wager. So the timeline is:
Category revealed
Wagers are made
Clue revealed
30 seconds to write down response
That's why! :)
