  • This is amazing!!!!! :OOOOOOOOOO

  • this is great functionality! very nice job :)

  • awesomely good! i'm starting to make a hack and slash rpg soon! i just want to awsk one thing! are there all basic rpg features in udk, such as character leveling, inventory on objects such as chests and other?

  • With UDK, graphics and realism are covered, you just need to create amazing game play and you'll have the best damn game ever made.

  • this doesnt look anything like skyrim!!! how can you have an rpg without dragons andmagic and shit!?!?!

  • @enigmazau not sure if troll or stupid xD

  • @enigmazau and rpg can be about anything, it don't have to be exactly a fantasy game

  • @sarcengm Very cool, would you mind if I messaged you about how to string things together in UDK? I have an able team and we're just starting off.

  • Great work, please keep me updated on your game.

  • Hello , I would like to know more about your dialog system how did you made it ? Thank you !

  • wow really great stuff!! Any advice, links, tutorials or docs that helped you make these RPG elements?

  • Did you use scaleform for the inventory or dialog systems?

  • i thought you meant RPG as the in the rocket launcher. If you had the source, i'd download it immediately.

  • I think I would be a little offended if someone called me hi, NPC :)

  • @sarcengm

i just want to know this where did you learn how to use the UDK?

  • @0yavuz

There are many documents and tutorials on the internet that teach you how to use UDK. The forums at Epic contain all the links and information you will need to learn UDK.

  • @G33kFr33k

    so this involves programming?

  • @0yavuz

that entirely depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Kismet, UDK's visual scripting system, is more of a connect the dots form of programming that uses node-based structure similar to modeling programs like Maya and 3ds Max. However, UDK also has its own scripting language, called UnrealScript, that is more traditional programming. Kismet is very easy to learn and can be used by those with no previous programming experience.

  • The UDK package is completely visual and does not require extensive programming. It is possible to create an entire game with no traditional programming whatsoever.

  • Did you make that all in analogy with gothic source code?

  • Comment removed

  • Do you know how to render out a video with UDK??????

  • can you please make a melee weapon system tutorial. im trying to make an rpd type game as well so i cn submit what i have to my colleges im applying to

  • Meen i need some help with this :S i want to know how to make it please help if u can! :) send me a message :)

  • please make a tutorial

  • Is the majority of this done in unrealscript or kismet?

  • @Promobyte87

Did you get a reply to that question? Because I was wondering the same thing.

  • nice!

great job on that I had a difficult time setting up the variables

  • Have you coded all those features or can they be accessed via UDK editor? Is there some open source code available somewhere for those RPG features? Is making the economy system stable (like worth of items / how much money you got) time consuming & hard?

  • Comment removed

  • its realy interesting. i want to do a advenure game but i dont know who i can make it.. :(

  • Dude you put a lot of effort into this.. You should finish it.

  • I will love you forever if you make a tutorial for this stuff because this is all amazing!

  • Wow dude this is amazingly awesome, any tutorials to achieve this?

  • I think imma buy a new Pc Download UDK and gonna try to make a Open World RPG Game that can change to 3rd and 1st Person mode

  • I curse iPad's auto correct function

  • My group and i have troes to do a melee system for quite some time now... But after looking at different tutorials we have achieved nothing... What did you use for the melee system?

  • @M4lg4k I'm doing a line trace from the beginning of the blade to the tip of it during the animation, damaging anything it comes in contact with.

  • @sarcengm Excuseme sir, I will not ask you to make a tutorial, but would you please address us on the right direction for learning how to make such an amazing game system? :D

    Thank you in advance

  • id love to try that code with my assetts ^^ Great work

  • Very Good 5/5

  • What did you use for "Dialog System" ?

  • very cool

  • You might need to slow down the characters speed unless it's just to show people the locations etc

  • how to do rpg? on udk? i can only play shooter -_-

  • Amazing. All you've got to do is find an animator and you've got a game :D

  • You, my friend, appear to be a complete bad ass. May all your endeavors go famously.

  • Wicked stuff mate, I can just imagine a new Zelda released also on PC with true next gen graphics!

  • Man, you're awesome! These features are really useful, u should try making a team with modelators and animators to do a nice game, congratz!

ps: could u do a tutorial, give us a bit of the source code or something?

  • Is it possible for you to do a tutorial on how to make an rpg using udk?

  • Is this made entirely with unreal script? I mean can it be done with other stuff in udk?

  • looks good somthing that may improve outside look a little is adding clouds and shadows for them it look cool

  • trading reminds me of gothic 1 good work !

  • Man this is and looks f**** awesome !!!!

Are you planning to release a game?

  • How long did this take, and what language does this system use? I'm trying to use it myself, and I couldn't draw/model to save my life. I also want to know if it has its own presets or something.

  • Hi there! Looking good. I am however curious, as to what method you used for level transitions?

First thoughts are triggers on the doors that when used they activate a command console line to load the next map? If that is the case how did you get those black screens? Really interesting on what you have done here, some light shed would be more than awesome!

  • Very inspiring work. I wanted to do something like this and seeing this video has been very helpful.

  • i am makin a level and i want to have my own character, i follow tutorials and it ends up with my level not loading, i know you have to change the coding and that, like extending certain things but it doesnt work, any chance you could show a quick and easier tutorial on how to choose your character?

    many thanks

  • very nice codeing skills :)

  • After using UDK Its made me Appritiate Games so much more

  • @yeesnaw I'm a coder not a modeler or animator, i'm just glad i can do the basics of it all so i can make coder art myself :P

  • @sarcengm That's some pretty nice stuff you've got there, I myself *was* working on a "big" Project within UDK with a Team as a Modeler but it've been temporarily put on halt thanks to the Coder =(

Anyway, I've been interested in kind of resurrecting Dungeon Siege 1 using UDK, as you've done some basic RPG stuff - do you reckon that UDK would be a good Engine for this?

Any hints or tips as a Coder you could give to a lonely little 3D Artist? =)

  • @sarcengm hey where did you learn all those things?????

can you show us some link to learn pls?

  • @sarcengm Hooray for coder art!

  • @sarcengm Yep, looks like your code is pretty crazy! keep up the good work buddy

  • @sarcengm Programmer... not a coder... fuck sake....

  • @yeesnaw its a work in progress. Show all you know, smartass.

  • @yeesnaw The name of this video is "UDK RPG Features",the intention is show RPG Features, not a model or animation...

  • @yeesnaw

Yeah ignore the impressive things like making a day and night cycle, dialog system and inventory...

focus on the models that are completely irrelevant in this video

  • Hey im looking to make an mmo/rpg and I was wondering is there another free program thats easy to use for designing characters/weapons/armor etc that can be ported into udk?

  • @OZpodster blender is a free program u can use for games art and such plenty of documentation aswell to help u along with the getting started

  • what kind of system are you running on? i have 4 gigs of RAM and 7100 Nvidia. Only thing that sucks is my CPU.

  • wow!!! so damn amazing!!!!! could you please make a tutorial? i'm trying to make a call of pripyat-like rpg. pleas please please!!!!!!

  • Excellent!

    Couple of questions though,

    1. I am trying to make an RPG similar to Lost Odyssey (If you don't know what it is you people may as well stop making RPG's) so can you please email me the save/load script at dwoodccc@hotmail.com

    2. are your NPCs actual scripted AI or are they crowd agents with triggers and blocking volumes attached?

    3. Is your day/night system a matinee with a light and a lens flare being manipulated?

    Cheers

  • any chanse to have some inofs on how-to ?

  • How do i save/export my game as a stand alone playable in UDK?.. yes im new at this but i wanted my friends that dont have UDK to beable to see how its coming along.

  • Dont use robots as chars for a game clearly themed for midevil times

  • ive never used this so dont bash me i have it in DL right now whats with the Blue checker boxes ?

  • May i ask... did you create the comerce system (money lol) inside Kismet ou hand scripting it?

please respond... im have HUGE problems trying to create stuff like this... :[

  • Really cool system game, you use kismet or only uscript?

  • hey could you make a game like wow or runescape in udk?

  • @cooldude89012

    Yes, i belive he could.

But nobody likes Wow or Runescape :D

  • Share the script!

  • impressive

  • Looks brilliant :)

It's a bit of a torment though cos I want to do an RPG too. Do I keep waiting day after day for you to release your system with no idea when that will be, or do just go and build my own only have it rendered redundant after months of work when you release yours?

What to do, what to do...

  • How did you change player's charecter

  • this could be a really good rpg, i also like risen very much

  • that's some amazing work! I saw some of ur other vids, and I'm very impressed! i would love to see the source code for the camera if ur fine with sharing it :D

  • i like it!

    very good features...

  • I have a problem with dominant light moveable and that is shadows from far away start to disappear but they reappear as you get closer but it looks weird.

Anything I can do to fix that?

  • @MrSean490 Without a big performance hit? no.

But i guess you can try and adjust it untill you have something decent.

under Light->Light Component -> CascadedShadowMaps -> Whole Scene Dynamic Shadow Radius

  • @sarcengm

Hey there! Thank you for replying. Really appreciate that. Only just begun with UDK so it's all rather new to me and I couldn't work it out, it was bugging me for ages. Just been following tutorials trying to learn the basics etc.

I'll configure it for a bit until I get something I like. Also, just want to say good work on what you have there so far, it looks great.

    Thanks again.

  • @sarcengm

yeh i had this problem you just change the amount to much higher than original like for example 10 - 10,000, it might not be that much but it works for me. then when you move away further like quite far away you can still see the shadows on walls etc.... follow MrSean490 suggestion and find the properties sayin whole scene dynamic

  • Are your plans to make a full RPG yourself?

I was part of an UT2004 rpg where it would give mappers/users the game to make their own RPG, saving everyone a ton of time.

    moddb (.) com/mods/eldervale

  • please where can i download your script, or rpg like unreal scripts?

  • this is awesome. will be online and can you make houses buy pets and stuff like that

  • @theking199012 YOU MADE MY DAY XD

  • @HardwareDoc i did how

  • @theking199012 "this is awesome. will be online and can you make houses buy pets and stuff like that " Your comment sounded like a funny cliché :D little pink bunnies etc.

  • @HardwareDoc ok and you hate making stuff like weapons, boats and stuff

  • Any chance you'd consider releasing code to the udk community. So many ppl are wishing for a rpg prototype to get them started and to learn

  • Comment removed

  • dude what Tut did you use for the Save System?

Did you use DLLbinds ? or write it within UDK class?

im impressed with the inventory aspect. Its the best i think ive seen so far. How did you get it that it Adds item into a new "block" on the inventory menu ?

  • please tell us how you did the dinamic sun cylce PLEASE

  • Hey dude that features are pretty awsome I could need them in my current project so if you have any interest to put content together. Write me!

  • does this saving feature work? so does i save the game and if you close and restart the game it loads the savegame? how have you made that?

    cuz i can't get my save/load-system to work...it doesn't make permanent savegame

  • @TheHavocInferno I just write all relevant data to a file and restore that on load, so yea after quitting the game it loads fine. Relevant data is what i deem to be relevant, e.g. for a pawn i save things like, health, location, rotation, status (is he dead or not).

  • Whoa very good work! Can you make a tutorial please?

  • can you help me?, im working in a proyect and i dont have idea to do the day&night cycle with a dominant directional light movable..

  • OMG.. is that in UIScene? Looks like UIScene to me. you are going to be in a lot of pain when they move the whole thing to Scaleform....

but then again, it'll open your inventory system to a whole new world after u move it.

  • @chiean999 its no uiscene, its just hud, and i was aware scaleform was coming so i didnt do much with the hud yet. and im uncertain how exactly the scaleform implementation will work so its hard to say if its going to be a pain, but i think it wont be worse then normal :p

  • @sarcengm That's in HUD? wow...then you must have put in A LOT of sweat. A lot of the HUD canvas thing isn't really designer-friendly. more like pure coding.

  • wow thats nice... where did you learn this? wut tutorial?

  • This is amazing work!!!

  • you still have a long way to go, but I'm amazed at your progress so far

  • mmmm, needs more zombies im afraid
