@fay1wray Hi, I worked on the incident for an art installation in 2009. I mentioned the families of the victims in the text. I went through the documentary and through several web pages with testimonies. It took me 2 years of research. Maybe you were in one. I believe the accident really kept many people's lives from danger. I believe all persons who perished are somewhat the heroes of many workers till today. I know there is no comfort, but people are working to make this known, recognized.
Just found out recently that the guy that my mum new his body hadn't been recovered and I found this out cause I visited the memorial and it was extremely strange cause there was gardens next to the memorial where my parents used to take every weekend when I was little I actually remember seeing the memorial when I was little and always got a strange scary and sort of unnerving feel of it but I hadn't know what was for till now btw the guy that my mum new his name was Stuart Douglas Sutherland

@ygarciaraul The first time you have heard about Piper Alpha? Where 167 Brits lost their lives due to cost-cutting measures by an American oil company? @robsonpaludo your dad is gay and likes sucking cock he died while having an orgy with all the men of a anchored navy vessel because shrapnel hit him in the forehead and caused him to seize ;[ the sailors continued to let him blow them and stated " there is no head quite like seizure head".

Noone was asleep, there were sirens going off all over the rig as soon as the smaller blast started the fire. It was theorized that the vast majority of the 167 men who died were below deck, trapped by the fire above them, they would have made their way to the mess hall/canteen which was the strongest fireproofed module. When the main pipeline melted (which was still receiving gas from 6 satellite rigs) the blast obliterated everything, the men would likely have died in an instant.

@SuperMegaFart Kind of sad that your so desperate for attention that you would say that kind of stuff about what happened on the Piper Alpha. I guess you got some more growing up to do faggot!!!!!!
The Gulf of Mexico BP oil spill is an environmental end of day’s bomb if the oil contains substantial iron and the surface water shows an increase in acidity. The acidification of the oceans indicates that the water is capturing atmospheric carbon and produces some carbonic acid. The air interface over a strong carbon sink would even slightly burn the eyes . A elite geologist John Martin stated in a speech “give me a tanker of Iron and I will cause the next ice age”.
i just hope the manager of the claymore platform who wouldnt turn the gaspipe off to the alpha when asked to do so many times has had many a sleepless night..he was thinking of his wage packet and the company profits before the lives of the men who died..he has the blood of scores of men on his hands..
@lightningstrike555 How can you say a human cost of 11 lives is worse than 167? Everyone is being compensated in full for lack of earnings related to the gulf incident. Take your head out of your arse and step out of your American bubble you prick.
@lightningstrike555 environmentally it is worse.. but in terms of lifes lost.. obviously not.. but the again you were too fuhkin stupid to read the description.
<<<<------click austinartwar to view. I made anti Bp clips . I need the community's support. Make your own if you have the time and video post a reply.
@godkingRoss what is your problem? The loss of lives isnt what I was pointing out. An oil spill refers to OIL not PEOPLE. Jeeze pay attention to the topic. This oil spill is the worst in the history of the US, go read up on the numbers. Its worse than the Exxon Valdez spill.
@R3MUS2007 pay attention. exactly. you commented on the title 'Worst offshore disaster ever that left 167 dead' which points out it's the worst and quoted the number of dead. then you comment 'not anymore. The Gulf of Mexico spill is the worst'.... remind me again who isn't paying attention?
@R3MUS2007 Yes, but the video wasn't about the oil spill - there wasn't a major oil spill ascosiated with Piper Alpha. However, it is still the "worst offshore disaster", (not counting shipping disasters,) and in terms of human lives lost (and that's the point of this video,) Deepwater Horizon is far less severe (11 dead) than this was.
after this this tradegy the people most responsible were ferried to countrys where britain could not bring them back here to face any kind of trial or questions. the true price of oil is shocking
Segano1, if it helps any, I donated blood and everytime I am back to Aberdeen I lay some flowers at the memorial and look at all 167 names. Good men died because of the greed of a corporation
i was ops manager for Atlas, we had just got all our crew off. Typically we had an average of 5 a day onboard ! I was next to go off and log p65 ..God bless the lost souls!
When will we learn? All the obtainable oil on the planet is going to run out in a few decades anyway. Then we'll be forced to use alt. energy sources. I say, use them now. Begin the switch NOW. Solar, wind, geothermal, wave energy, and stuff yet to be discovered. As we're making the switch, continue using oil you can drill from land and increase fuel efficiency stds to make that last longer. No more DEEP WATER drilling.
I knew how to stop the leak immediatly after the explosion but the secret service threatened me with jail if I continued to call the white house about it, & I told them a few bad things were going to happen soon, but they ignored me , so the world gets what it deserves!!! the media is in on the conspriacy to let the leak drama continue, & BP took some of my ideas and I haven't gotten any credit for it there is so much more to the whole story
Offshore welders earn $2,775.00 per 84 hr. work week, send to me your email address. If you would like to go offshore doing some other kind of work, send to me your email address.
Off-shore Oil-rig drilling is an anti-environmental hazard, and 'fossil-fuel' is a misnomer, --for oil is NOT limited, is actually abioticly formed from Magma instead of organic-fossil origin as thought. Accordingly, the ruthless primitive-minded anti-social jewZionist-mafia wanna-be NWO-Kings ('robber-barons') Rockfeller/Rothschild et'al have done their best to misinform we-the-sheeple; --yet electricar is now a reality, thus their new criminal-monopoly is toxic/Pharm.-drugs...
@xsithos A good number of the workers who were on-duty at the time actually did leap into the sea. It was mostly the ones who were off-duty (and presumably asleep) who were incinerated without having tried to escape the platform.
it's always a worrying thing being offshore, i work on Drilling Rigs for Ensco & these things are always in the back of my mind. Who's to know it wont happen again...... R.I.P Fellow workers that perished :-(
i agree, things like this are always in the back of my mind too, i also work on a Rig for the same Company this incident happened. ( Occidental Petroleum ), however since this accident, safety measures have been lifted highly, but as u said who's 2 know it wont happen again..
it's all good this highly upgraded health & safety, if it saves one life then i'm all for it. If i have to get a permit to get a permit i'll do it :-)
humanity, respect, and selflessness costs nothing, but its something the people on piper alpha had, its hurtful insensitive and disrespectful to wright some of the disgusting comments left here, the majority of us left kind words and understand the worry that us loved ones have left here back home when our husbands, dads, lovers, brothers, sisters, mums go offshore. some forget its one of the most dangorus jobs in the world.
Occidental Petroleum@North sea, root cause was lack off communication btw shift Supr's. With Piper there were 2 other Rigs, Tartan & Claymore, that were pumping oil into d main pipeline, Emergency shutdown had stoped oil production on piper, fire would have burnt itself out eventually. piper was in the centre of a network of rigs, as the other 2 rigs continued pumping this caused back pressure & fuel'd pipers fire. had the 2 rigs stopped on hearing the first blast, things may have been different.
@vinman24t wikepedia Piper Alpha for oil rig info...the cullen enquiry made 103 safety reccomendations after the disaster and the HSE took ownership for safety at sea.
Lack of admin control, engineering control, adequate health and safety precautions, lack of adequate rig design. Lack of emergency procedures, poor management and staff work ethics and poor communication contributed to this disaster. Cant believe people weren't locked up for this!
@ronan1986 Money ran everything back then. It still does, but at least its getting better and huge changes were made in reguards to saftey due to this incident.
You´re quite right in your points there. This was a disaster that could have been avoided, if the right precautions and procedures had been taken in use.
Working frequently on offshore rigs, I can say that safety today has a much higher level than back in the 80´s.
But some sectors are, unfortunatly , still lacking on safety controls. Deep Water Horizon is a clear example of this..
I believe all the people that think you're not a man if you don't work with your hands need to see this. There are a lot of youth that think the oil field is the way to go because you make more than some people that go to college. They even have almost a prejudice against people with a higher education. Events like this proves it's not without cost. And events like this happen very often.
IncludeGod: Events like this happen often? Um, no, you are wrong. You are much, much more likely to get killed by a drunk driver than to die this way, although tragic nonetheless. And there is nothing wrong with doing some hard work.
@IncludeGod - IncludeGod. Please stop using your car because the gas your using comes from there. Also, stop using running water, the water use use comes from pumps fueled by gas from there. While your at it, stop using electricity because, chances are, the electricity needed to power your house comes from there. Good luck without being able to make retarded comments on youtube. It will be nice to have you gone.
Well apparently you couldn't comprehend my "retarded comment". Don't worry, I didn't expect people like you to understand it. If you would have read my comment correctly, you would have known that I wasn't putting down the oil industry, but stating that pursuing a career in this field can have major cost. My grandfather worked a rig, made good money too, but how much of that money did he have to spend fighting lung cancer twice because he swallowed a flame when the rig caught fire.
Thank You USN for blowing the mexican mafia's funds to shit squat and seeing the mexican maphia cartel jump yeebeez off to broke sucking up to our government now. @lightningstrike555 How can you say a human cost of 11 lives is worse than 167? Everyone is being compensated in full for lack of earnings related to the gulf incident. Take your head out of your arse and step out of your American bubble you prick.
ralliart2000 1 year ago 15
@ralliart2000 it's because americans are brought up to think that only american lives matter, the rest of the world is nothing to them
godkingRoss 1 year ago
@godkingRoss not all americans are selfish douchebags. 99% of the ones who represent us, yes, are stuck up their own asses. just sayin'.

@R3MUS2007 i don't think this was posted to start an argument over who has the worst offshore disaster... grow up
godkingRoss 1 year ago
@godkingRoss stop trolling the comments. If you have something to add, post it. I wasnt starting an argument. I was simply stating a fact. >.>
R3MUS2007 1 year ago
@R3MUS2007 a fact? explain how the loss of 11 lives is worse then 167? how is that a fact?
godkingRoss 1 year ago
@godkingRoss what is your problem? The loss of lives isnt what I was pointing out. An oil spill refers to OIL not PEOPLE. Jeeze pay attention to the topic. This oil spill is the worst in the history of the US, go read up on the numbers. Its worse than the Exxon Valdez spill.
R3MUS2007 1 year ago

@R3MUS2007 pay attention. exactly. you commented on the title 'Worst offshore disaster ever that left 167 dead' which points out it's the worst and quoted the number of dead. then you comment 'not anymore. The Gulf of Mexico spill is the worst'.... remind me again who isn't paying attention?
godkingRoss 1 year ago
@R3MUS2007 Yes, but the video wasn't about the oil spill - there wasn't a major oil spill ascosiated with Piper Alpha. However, it is still the "worst offshore disaster", (not counting shipping disasters,) and in terms of human lives lost (and that's the point of this video,) Deepwater Horizon is far less severe (11 dead) than this was.

after this this tradegy the people most responsible were ferried to countrys where britain could not bring them back here to face any kind of trial or questions. the true price of oil is shocking

It was mostly the ones who were off-duty (and presumably asleep) who were incinerated without having tried to escape the platform.

humanity, respect, and selflessness costs nothing, but its something the people on piper alpha had, its hurtful insensitive and disrespectful to wright some of the disgusting comments left here, the majority of us left kind words and understand the worry that us loved ones have left here back home when our husbands, dads, lovers, brothers, sisters, mums go offshore. some forget its one of the most dangorus jobs in the world.
most of us do not forget. R.I.P BRAVE SOULS.

Jurgenmycroft 1 year ago
@vinman24t wikepedia Piper Alpha for oil rig info...the cullen enquiry made 103 safety reccomendations after the disaster and the HSE took ownership for safety at sea.

im never working on an offshore rig fuck that.
spliff42007 2 years ago
Lack of admin control, engineering control, adequate health and safety precautions, lack of adequate rig design. Lack of emergency procedures, poor management and staff work ethics and poor communication contributed to this disaster. Cant believe people weren't locked up for this!
ronan1986 2 years ago 6
@ronan1986 Money ran everything back then. It still does, but at least its getting better and huge changes were made in reguards to saftey due to this incident.
MrBoredatwork 2 years ago
@ronan1986
Deep Water Horizon is a clear example of this..
basi187 1 year ago
@ronan1986 Exactly! I mean, how can anyone be negligent enough not to install blastproof panels in an area likely to be graced by gas explosions?!

I believe all the people that think you're not a man if you don't work with your hands need to see this. There are a lot of youth that think the oil field is the way to go because you make more than some people that go to college. They even have almost a prejudice against people with a higher education. Events like this proves it's not without cost. And events like this happen very often.
IncludeGod 2 years ago
IncludeGod: Events like this happen often? Um, no, you are wrong. You are much, much more likely to get killed by a drunk driver than to die this way, although tragic nonetheless. And there is nothing wrong with doing some hard work.
ptschafer 2 years ago 2
@IncludeGod - IncludeGod. Please stop using your car because the gas your using comes from there. Also, stop using running water, the water use use comes from pumps fueled by gas from there. While your at it, stop using electricity because, chances are, the electricity needed to power your house comes from there. Good luck without being able to make retarded comments on youtube. It will be nice to have you gone.
MrBoredatwork 2 years ago 2
Well apparently you couldn't comprehend my "retarded comment". Don't worry, I didn't expect people like you to understand it. If you would have read my comment correctly, you would have known that I wasn't putting down the oil industry, but stating that pursuing a career in this field can have major cost. My grandfather worked a rig, made good money too, but how much of that money did he have to spend fighting lung cancer twice because he swallowed a flame when the rig caught fire.
