I walked on that trail at that spot, but is was on a weenkend so there was no service, and BTW, when I got closer to the tracks I heard a horn, but then I realize it was for Great Notch FD's horn for a call.
they had a hearing on September 3rd. the scheduled stops are down to like, two a day. and ridership is about 20 people at that station. the big new Montclair State Universtiy station, witha huge parking garage, is less than a mile away.
It's also kind a shame if they do close it down I mean personally I never been at the station, I really felt bad when they closed the Arlington Station here in Kearny, and I was one of the person at the hearing showing support for the station to stay opened. But the good news is, we are going to have a new station here in Kearny by 2012.
i was really pissed that they closed the whole "lower boonton line" (glen ridge:benson st., blooomfield:rowe st, and north arlington. now that line is needed more than ever.
There was also a minor ruckus from residents of Montclair, along the original part of the line, not wanting diesel-powered trains going through their town.
It'll be seven years this September since the lower Boonton Line was shut down; it was claimed by the weeds rather quickly.
NS H02 still uses the "lower boonton line" for local frieght. now the original part of the line doesnt go through montclair. it comes up through bloomfield and glen ridge and stops at the connection, but the residents of montclair do put up a rucus. thats why the montclair line is the only one in the system with no weekend service.
just to let you know the plan to close great notch didnt get approved, and we actually added a train or two to the new schedule which goes into effect on the 19th
actually, NJ Transit posted notice just last week. the big new Montclair State University Station is about a mile away, has a huge multi story parking garage. and great notch has about 20 riders a day. check the schedule, youll find maybe one train each way stops there.
It's a shame they closed Great Notch station. Isn't it?

Cool new diesel locomotive, look like the New Voith maxima 40 cc diesel locomotive.
dutchtrainmanserie22 3 years ago
you know that's right because the PL42 is a joint American/Eurpean product.

I sure don't miss riding that piece of shit every day!

the pl42ac's are good in style but they suck in tech

Those PL42 engines are strange.

I dont really like them. F40's and GP-40's are much cooler. and of course the old U-boats are the best.
ERIELACKU34CH 4 years ago
yea there always breaking down, i prefer the EMD engines
trainzrok 4 years ago
do you mean the U34CH
sarginto 4 years ago
U34's are General Electric, GP-40's and F40's are EMD. The PL42 is a joint venture with canada and EMD
