Every time I watch this video I get goosebumps. Her choreography is so clever. Here she is dancing to an Irish tune, moving elegantly and gracefully like a ballet dancer, yet giving hints of her flamenco brilliance here and there. I can't say enough. She just makes me want to get up and say OLE! But this is in River Dance. What a teaser.

I've heard some people say that they don't like her because they can't look past her "nose" or "manly face", but c'mon! Her dancing exudes grace, beauty, femininity, sensuality, and so on. How could anyone be bothered to judge her face when there's a certain raw intensity in her movements and expression that's totally mesmerizing? Those people need to learn that there's more to beauty than a face, and this woman is stunning just the way she is.

This Firedance was always one of my very favorites of the original Riverdance. Her energy, strength, and beauty made this a classic to watch time and time again..thats what i do

no, María Pagés is actual from Spain- due to her biography. Amazing woman by the way :) I love Flamenco dance, music and singing. In Riverdance it is just fantastic how they mix Irish Music and dance with other culture :)

I like this video but it really confuses me, is this suppose to be celtic or spanish? The music especially the guitar sounds very celtic yet the dancer seems to be performing a flamenco dance. I just am confused on what culture she is representing, since i never heard of flamenco being influenced by the celts, i could be wrong but im pretty sure celts had nothing to do with flamenco.

@bradt4evr Actually part of what Riverdance was trying to show was some of the common musical threads that exist in most of the European culture. And yes, Celtic culture, ie. music, does have much in common with the culture of Europe.

The music is cheesy, as in blatantly inauthentic to the flamenco dance. Everything else is good, but seriously that sounds like jazzy elevator music, which doesn't compliment the dancer at all.

@operaerobic The orchestra is Irish with a lot or Irish instruments so the sound doesn't quite mesh with "Firedance", written by a Turk. It was an Irish show which also shows Russian, Spanish & other European dances & the link between those & Irish dance (I don't see the link myself but who cares. The dancing is superb; just enjoy it.)

The music is not really flamenco style but more Irish, because in the Riverdance show when they had different dance from around the world it was to show the similarity to Irish dance. In this instance the "Tap" style found in Flamenco and Irish.

The dance is good, but I don't like this kind of music with flamenco. I think the traditional Spanish music with guitar, castanettes, and sometimes some violin fit Flamenco way better than the celtic-like music. Still is a very good dance =)
