If you want the best pastrami in NYC, then head over to one of these delis: Zabar's, Artie's, Carnegie (humongous sandwiches) or Stage. You can't go wrong in any of those places.
In the 1930s my Papa Jack & his brother owned a deli at 55 Second Ave (between 3-4 St). My mom remembers him cutting the pastrami just like that with a similar knife she still has. Katz's roumanian pastrami is the best on earth! I like to order 4 latkes there and a 1/2 lb of pastrami and use 2 latkes in place of rye bread - stuff it with 1/4lb of pastrami. I do two of those. Over at 2nd Avenue Deli they call that an Instant Heart Attack Sandwich for $21.95 but I prefer the pastrami at Katz's
I hope they never expand. How do you keep the quality control over a gem like this. Maybe the owner doesn't want to (or need to) expand. Since this is a world famous spot, the income the owner has made over the years probably pays the bills and then some!
That's a great idea!... That's actually a million dollar idea.
Imagine.. Come to grand re-opening of Trump's Taj Mahal. Enjoy the new foodcourt which includes the World Famous Katz's Deli and their Premiere Pastrami Sandwich!
Or maybe on a lower key, every shopping mall in Amerca could have a Katz's Deli next to Nathan's Coney Island Hotdogs?
I just watched the episode on the travel channel show " No Reservations" with Anthony Bourdain and really look forward to visiting Katz's when I can afford a vacation to New York.

im kinda stumped why all this while, katz only has 1 store, considering their popularity and all.
I reckon they can make it big if they expand.
anyone know the reason behind the 1 store only?

14.95, and NOT worth it in my opinion, living on their reputation I'm afraid.

Bleh... I hate the way pastrami makes your breath smell after eating it. It's one particular meat I really don't fancy.
