@ClassicTVMan1981X its the exhaust set up more likely. Im used to the true, deep L-10 exhaust note you hear in L-10 powered Metros from like LA, Cobb County, Cleveland, DC, Shuttle UM...
@6V92TA - I recall that Tri-Met's older 1988-89 Flxible Metro's with L-10's were deeper sounding compared to the later ones like the one in this video.
Maybe that's due to the fact the Cummins L10 used in the 1988-89 Flxible Metros as well as the 1990-91 Gillig Phantoms was mechanically controlled; the L10 used on the 1992 Flxible Metros is electronically controlled.
@1985jon - I would if I were in Portland. I live in Calgary, Alberta and have no plans to get to Portland anytime soon. Check with ClassicTVMan81 and other local Portland YouTube users and you may have some luck there.
Most of the 1990 Gillig Phantoms are now retired; those still in service are mainly used in rush-hour service (think lines 92, 94, 95, 96 and 99, among others) and as a contingency fleet, along with the remainder of the 1992 and '94 Flxible Metros. They do have all their 1997 Gillig Phantoms at this writing, and those have air starters, too.
I remember when Metro put the low air warning shutoff inhibiter's on our rts-tmc's to prevent drivers from intentionally breaking down the buses.See,the trick was,start it,shut it off quicky,repeat that untill the air tank was dry and it wouldnt start,metro soon wised up tho lol..
@ghostboy323 I cannot believe these ones in Miami MDTA has already retired a year or 2 ago. Mines in Chicago CTA are going to retire all of them completely in a week or 2 due to service cuts.
Thoes air starters are way cool sounding

@6V92TA
Seems like you can't tell since both are six-cylinder designs.
