This doesn't say anything about him supporting the LGBT rights, but always someone mentioning Lt. Choi had a right to protest against the decision to have been kicked-out is soo ignorant! Even though this video was posted about going on almost 2 years now, The U.S. military is run completely different on inside than from the outside from other issues dealing with the day to day lives of regular civilians.
L.t. Choi dishonored himself, the uniform breaking the rules. He's only a translator.
In this country, we all have the right to live with -or- without the fear of "God" in our hearts. We all have the right to live our lives according to the philosophy or worldview of our choice and LGBT people deserve their rights regardless of weather or not their lifestyles are "biblical." Live your faith, but stop forcing it on others.
BIBLICAL!!!! oh shit its the BIBLE written twi thousand years ago by some lonely old men. Go shove a crucifix up your ass and suck on jesus' imaginary cock.
if "god" had eyesight, he has bigger fish to fry than two men fucking each other.
Just as Bush did immeasurable damage to the reputation of the United States, Prop 8 and its backers have done irreparable harm to the State of California.
Our response should be to laugh . . . and get to work.
Obama is keeping his promise, he stated in no uncertain terms, during his campaign, that he believes in civil unions for LGBT, and believes marriage should be between one man one woman.
He has never really supported true equality for us. Civil Unions does not equal Marriage.
Why the surprise now?
The gay community by and large gave him the support after his statements of civil unions for us. They need to keep the issue up in arms so they have a distraction whenever needed.
It will be interesting to see what Obama thinks of the upcoming law suit going to the supreme court. Precedence has already been set by the supreme court that states cannot discriminate in marriage.
What about "on a national basis" did you not understand? He states that he wanted national recognition of equal partnership rights (without use of the word marriage), and that he wanted to repeal DOMA and DADT.
However, I do not support gay marriage. Marriage has religious and social connotations, and
I consider marriage to be between a man and a woman. If I was President, however, I would
oppose any effort to stifle a states ability to decide this question on its own. Whether it was a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage or a bill like the Defense of Marriage Act, I would oppose such efforts. "
If the word Marriage carries with it religious connotations then in a country that truly valued a separation of church and state, then we would have to strike the word completely and all unions as seen by the state would be strictly a legal contract, regardless of race, religion, or gender.
The Marriage ceremony whether religious or not should not have any meaning to the state whatsoever.
I don't think there's anything wrong with marriage having both a religious component for Christians and Jews and Muslims and people of any faith and also having a secular component--government has to officially record the date when a marriage begins, for critically important legal reasons.
Obviously, the most important component of marriage is the emotional component: love between two people that lasts, they hope, forever.
Government should end its interference by simply granting the same license to all unmarried adult couples who are about to marry regardless of race or religion or orientation.
We have centuries of legal precedents behind current laws regarding marriage. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel and ask every couple to write the perfect contract.
America should simply allow every American who wants to to get married.
To Hell with the bigots and their phony sensitivities. The bigots are just bad children who have never been told no and it's time someone did . . . lovingly.
Marriage as recognized by the United States of America is a secular union, based upon secular constitutional rights, and backed by the secular federal government. You can have a religious ceremony all you like, but the actual legal marriage contract has nothing to do with religion, and neither does the benefits that come with marriage.
Then they should classify all marriages as secular unions. They can call it whatever the heck they want. To have marriages for all but same sex couples, we get to have civil unions, is not equal. Period. I don't see how it can be seen any other way by a rational person.
Legally recognized marriage within the united states are recognized as secular marriages, the government has no part in any religious ceremony after a marriage license is gotten.
I agree that all should have equality in marriage, homosexuals deserve equal treatment under the constitution as any other american citizen.
LGBT or hetero, we're all the same! Love is love!

That's all Prop 8 is. Harassment.
It's a kind of verbal hate crime, on a statewide scale.

I don't think it's accurate to call marriage a Christian sacrament or a religion institution.
When two atheists marry, they may decide to have a big, beautiful wedding with no religious component whatsoever.
They still deserve, and receive, the normal marriage license and all the legal protections that come with it with nobody blinking an eye.
Deeply religious gay men and women who choose to marry deserve no less respect and no greater scrutiny or harassment.

By "They" I mean the government past and present.

He also said though that it should be up to the states, so that's promising.

"I believe civil unions should include the same legal rights that accompany a marriage license.
I support the notion that all people gay or straight deserve the same rights and
responsibilities to assist their loved ones in times of emergency, deserve equal health
insurance and other employment benefits currently extended to traditional married couples,
and deserve the same property rights as anyone else.

His stance is quite clear.
