I have my PPL/SEL....I OF COURSE watched their Private Pilot Video Course back in 1998. Now I will start working on my IFR/MULTI-ENGINE and COMMERCIAL....NOT WITHOUT John and Martha though!
If you are thinking of becoming a Pilot....ORDER their Video Courses, YOU WON'T regret it!
I didn;'t know in that you still adjust power to climb setting if you lose an engine...I would figure that you would just keep it at max power setting since you only have 1 engine.
@jarod1672 Depends on the jet. Most engines have a time limit at "max power". So "after you lose an engine" which engine is your most critical engine? Of course it is the only one you have left and is still operating (2 engine jet vs 3 or 4). So different jets have different profiles for power management, some pull back to MCT (maximum continuous thrust) at an altitude others at an airspeed or time. Bottom line; usually there is a limit to how long the thrust levers stay all the way fwd
@jarod1672 I guess it would have to be optimum thrust so that you climb without putting too much strain on the airframe by rudder compensation. Full power on one engine might give you a better rate of climb but it also might hurt the plane.
for my standard i´d call a 70kt speed "cross check" so P2 actually knows P1 has REALLY checked his airspeed indicator otherwise it woulb be a REJECT call out due to airspeed unreliable.. and i´d request at accel heigth "flaps up" and " SET MAX continuous" thrust instead of "climb power".
gear retraction is P1 P2 would be looking at engine instruments..
This is why I think piston planes should be banned. Far too many people have been killed in unreliable piston aircraft engine failures during take off. Not to mention jets sound cooler than the dreaded piston propeller.
@bigbones102 The lever that John pulled back at V1 was the #1 Thrust Lever. In non-aviation terms you could think of it as the "gas pedal" for the left engine. John is simulating an engine failure shortly after V1, to demonstrate the flying performance of this T-Category 2 engine jet. When the weight & balance and performance limits are respected the jet will deliver guaranteed performance by certification standards-you can actually climb and accelerate. Not true with most piston twins.
@ubermarklar wrong they are in a 500 you can tell if by nothing else by the length of the fuelsalge, there are 3 windows on the 500/501 and there are 3 on the one in the video where as the 560 has 7 lol
now i have my PPL and have personally never flown a multi engine or a jet so if someone could answer me as to why you cut the power on the left engine during takeoff?
Because V1 is the critical engine out time. Above that speed you have to take off if you lose an engine (to avoid overrunning the end of the runway), below that speed you must abort the takeoff. However, most light twins have a gap where if you lose an engine you'll probably go off the end either way; they don't have the excess thrust of a jet.
@paintballdude518 I'm not sure if you ever got an answer to your question over a year ago about cutting the power on the left engine during takeoff. This was only a demonstration, simulating a loss of power. Normally it is NOT done. This is training and education put on by the Kings who are in the business of training pilots and selling their skills and knowledge. This video clip is a training demonstration, not a normal routine takeoff.
John, Martha i love you, you are so great i`m Scottish i come from fife in Scotland, when i grow up i want to be just like except i just want to be a pilot when i grow up not an instructor. It is My Dream to meat you. Please Visit Scotland Or if You Already Have It`s Great Huh. Happy Flying
The best part of that video was from the preflight. John's already told us that for this flight Martha will be the Captain, and he'll be the First Officer. Sometime after that, Martha says "John why don't you go ahead and preflight, and I'll prepare the flight deck."
After Martha is gone, John turns to the camera and says "Martha really gets into this Captain thing." or something like that. It was so funny.
I love the way they make little rhymes and acronyms like "black square you're there". Think one "odd north east". wouldnt it be great if somebody started making similar video and cbt()computer based training) products for learning things like maths and physics. It would make the learning process easier. These 2 are such great educators and sadly there isnt enough people like them in british schools. They appear to have psychologically planned there lessons well
These guys are excellent. I'd love to have somone as good as these guys as my instructor. You nothing would go unchecked with these guys. the giant video back grounds are excellent as they demostrate things. These giant videos would be excellent for learning other subjects like maths and physics in school. Also the way they simplify complex topics is great
this brings me back to FS9

hey what equipment did they use to record the intercom? I know its a jet but their piston engine videos also sounds clear. Can anyone help? Thanks

what was the lever he pulled down at 0:38? it looks like the spoilers but i dont think he would use spoilers for taking off..

@jm431 He killed one of the engines (throttle to idle). It looks like a simulated engine failure during takeoff.

I thought they owned a Falcon?
Maybe maintenance and 2 pilot cockpit was an issue?
Quite an amazing business model that brought them to this point.

no v2 is when you must take off v1 is the speed at which you can still abort and not run out of run way

Indeed.
Another good one is East is least, West is best, when your doing wind correction with the magnetic variations on the chart.
Subtracting magnetic variation from your true course for East and adding on the West.

Another good one is when you are dealing with magnetic variation from charts, on your true course.
East is least, West is best.
Subtracting the magnetic variation from your true course if its marked E and adding the variation if its W.
