I like your tone. I also like the way you start and stop notes. I like the spirit of what you are doing, the emotion of it which is super important. I agree that you need to work on your time. I would suggest playing over the changes with a metronome and no accompaniment. Good job
He bro Great Job.... I would just say to be Careful of your Swing... it tends to drag instead of swing. and I think you have really good Ideas but just make sure that you expand those ideas and not "waste them" ya know. Oh and it just sound as if your default volume is loud. I would try to use a little more dynamic contrast because so many ideas can come out of the proper use of dynamics.... Keep working
the only criticism i think i could add, is the looking at the book thing. And on the melody, on the last A, over the D minor chord, you go f, f, eb, f, A. the f is the melody note, and the a is and the note you should have gone down to is E natural instead of E flat for that turn to fit in the harmony. Cheers!
I can hear a bit of Dexter in the way you state the head. Stay confident in your time though. You seem like you have a *concept* of your sound and where you want to go, it's just the process of laying it down with confidence time wise. Keep at it.
Great - love it !
