  • 7:55 was SO in !

  • @saemj yeah. paused and not only knee, but wrist and hand IN! love watching these teams play though, great little international rivalry, and great respect for each other

  • also, i thought games are played to 15. if it's to 14, why not make the half at 7?

  • @infinitesimal10

i don't know all the details, but there may have been a time-cap. the game was going too long and so they capped the game to 14 points otherwise it probably would've gone to 15.

regarding the score, the one at 9:11 was incorrect. I believe it was 12-10 (that's the score we hear) and then buzz bullets score to make it 12-11 at 9:45. i do not know all the details, but that's what seems to have happened.

  • @kmthomson oh ok. thanks!

  • @infinitesimal10 the time cap probably came on when whoever was winning had 12. thus the game goes to 14 (add 2 to the highest score at the cap)

  • at 9:49, the score shouldn't be 12-11, it should be 12-12, right? the previous score, at 9:11 said 12-11 too.

  • Whats the rule for catching the frisbee in bounds? Why was it called out at 7:48

  • They just dishonored their famiry

  • seeing as everyone else commented on it so will I, at 7:47 the throw was totally inbounds and I would have faught that all day long.

  • 7:52 japan was so in on an amazing throw

  • 1:47, isn't that swing illegal?

  • @RidgeRacerLord it's just a give-and-go series. as long as they don't change the direction of their run while possessing the disc, it's not a travel.

  • @RidgeRacerLord The have to be slowing down as quickly as possible, which I don' think they were. Or they have to through it before taking a third step (ie you can consider the second foot an established pivot) which I think they did. It would be a petty travel to call I think.

  • If you watch the 2008 WUGC final you'll see Sockeye makes terrible calls in that game as well.

  • SUCK KICK-ASSERY!!!!!!!

  • Re 7:52 if you pause each frame, you'll see that he's in the air as he catches the disc, right?

You'll also see that a couple of frames later, his first points of contact with the ground are his right hand and right knee (AT THE SAME TIME). His right hand touches the line as he touches the ground (you can just about see the line bulge).

I hate foul calls, they slow the game down. But I dislike moaning about them even more.

  • @Corkie0000 I did pause each frame and he was not in the air when he grabs the disc though. In fact, he first makes contact with the disc when his left toe is on the ground, he then continues falling and the left foot goes up and his right toe touches and then his knee/arm simultaneously at the end. You are right that his arm touches the line (or close to it) but it was long after (in terms of frames) he touched the ground/disc

  • no-look flick for the score 3:34

  • travel at 1:02

  • That one guy's leggings from the Buzz Bullets was sick.

  • @1982SushiFlinger If you layout and your body land outside, its counted as a out

  • So, are the Japanese a pretty good ultimate team? I seem to be seeing a lot of them in ultimate clips.

  • @SeksiChaps They really ultilize their speed to their advantage a lot they don't let up on either side of the disk they have great flow.

  • 0:35

Love that take and then in my head I hear a 'click, click', as he switches grip and then BOOOOM - sends it deep.

  • @1982SushiFlinger You'd expect more spirit than that.

  • 0:41 is the end zone not where the football end zone starts?

  • @skibxskatic an ultimate field has 25yd endzones and 70yd playing field. the total length is 120yds like a football field (100 + 10yd endzones) but the endzones do not line up at the front.

  • @kmthomson aah. i'm so used to playing pickup where we just define our own endzones as long as they seem reasonable (we generally play on large patches of grass with no measurement markers whatsoever). i'll definitely remember that next time though.

  • 0:57 now why didn't he catch that?

  • buzz bullets caught that in 7:52

  • Hey you guys obviously enjoy team disc sports, but which one of you is best at the disc all around. which one could walk on an ultimate, guts, DDC, or offer freestyle excitement?

This May 2011 we will hold an International open for all athletes disc pros or not. TheSport 4X4 combines the speed and danger of guts, teamwork of Ultimate and finesse of freestyle. We keep those guts minded players 8 feet apart, pop up a net and wrap the whole contest in a 4000+sqft playing area.

  • 14-11 fin

  • What happened at 4:21?

  • @ptrefftz bullshit foullll

  • how is Japan out in 7:51 ?

his first contact with the ground after catching the disc seemed to be his knee one the ground before his elbow outside the line.

  • One of the best games of Ultimate I've ever seen. Excellent camera work but shame about the spirit of the camera man at 5:47....

  • Nice camera work! Appreciate the zooms and movement. Most other vids miss a lot of action.

  • @wolf5901

all the credit should go to Rob and his crew at Ultivillage.

  • 3:10 vuvuzela=D

  • isn't this a travel? 1:51

  • @davidtejones I thought that at first, but they're throwing it between the two of them..

  • What was the call at 4:21?

  • @Portboy

he dove, caught it, dropped the disc and ran to get open.

  • @itzjorgez So having caught it he should have held on to it and made the first pass?

  • @Portboy yeah i don't understand what happened there either.

  • 6:33 Love that IO flick, so much.

  • what a shit call at 7:56 you got to be kidding

  • @opti420sk yeah.

  • my word... those inside out forhand hucks were unreal!

  • sick catch at 2:20

  • scuuba at 3:56 :D lovely ^^

  • now what the hell was 2:18? that was crazy!

  • I love watching the Buzz Bullets. I'll stop short of calling Sockeye a bunch of cheaters but if you watch other BB vs. Sockeye videos there always seems to be a number of very suspect calls from Sockeye.

  • awful call at 7:57, his feet were in.

  • Ya how in the world was that even considered an out call? Wtf.. makes me mad

  • They obviously thought he didn't drag his feet enough. He landed first on his elbow out of bounds I think. But when paused it looks like he did catch it before leaving the ground.

  • Very very true. His back right foot hit the ground inbounds before his hand landed out. Good catch

  • but he lands first with the overbody on the ground and then its out :S

  • @MrLiam1986 he was in, but i think he dropped it and as he rolled over it picked it up

  • @MrLiam1986 Totally agree. Terrible spirit.

  • @MrLiam1986 I think they called him out because his first point of contact with the ground after he stopped rotation of the disc was his hand which was out of bounds (on the line is out of bounds)

  • @MrLiam1986

I took some screenshots of that "out of bounds" catch and his foot was definitely on the ground when he first touched the disc. I tried sharing the images but youtube wont let me link here. I have to disagree with the out of bounds call as well, no question about it that he was in bounds with contact of his toe like 6 feet from the sideline

  • @MrLiam1986 worse call at 8:54 ...very down

  • sockeye=cheaters

  • how so?

  • i retract my comment. and i totally agree.

  • He has his left hand in right as he first touches (and grabs) the frisbee, thus making it a catch. His foot then lifts off the ground and he lands on the line. But he had control of the frisbee when he was on the ground in bounds.

  • 3:33 no look pass

  • cheaaa

  • 7:52 - he lands on the tape - how could he be in bounds?

And no, it's not his call. The call belongs to whoever has the best perspective.

  • No friggin way! I don't know if you need 2 feet in bounds, but he definite got 1 foot and then lands on his knee. It's a catch.

  • Way.

His arm lands on the tape. he was in the air when he caught the disc and his arm was the first point of contact. Out.

  • I'm not saying the "ref" made a bad call, it was tough. But we have replay video here on Youtube, and you can tell he had at least 1 foot inbounds before his arm lands on the tape.

    In

  • all you need is one foot at the first contact of the disc and he definitely did

  • its actually when you stop the rotation

  • You are right that it is not his call. Often, the person with best perspective is the person who catches the disc, leading people to say "It's your call", which has led many people to think they mean it's always the receiver's call.

You're completely wrong though. His upper body lands on the tape far enough after his feet tap in bounds AND after the catch, it's easy enough to tell even from this youtube video.

  • 7:52 it looks like he is in bounds, even though sideline called him out. It's not their call, it's his call.

  • Depends on the tournament rules. Worlds and other high level tournaments use line judges.

  • really? In the tournaments that I played in it was all self officiated, and that's what my coach said who was on Amherst Varsity, but ok I can believe that i guess

  • and it looked like it was called by the players that were on the sideline

  • Any line judge would be in bright green or orange as an "observer" in the US. You guys really need to look up the rules yourself, and so does your Amherst Varsity coach.

The player on the field with the best perspective makes the call. In this case it is obviously not the receiver and in any case it's never the sideline

  • I said that it's never the sidelines call. But yeah, that makes sense. I knew that you could ask them to see if they were in bounds or out of bounds. I wasn't sure if they could make the final call. I just thought it was the person that made the catch's call

  • that pass at 1:20 was swell

  • 4:00, that was friggin awesome.

  • 3:55 What the junk was that?

It almost looked like a hammer but not really.

  • it looked like a huge IO scoober to me.

  • scoober indeed.

  • Haha yea now that I look at it again it does look like that. But not to effective lol probably why I've never seen anyone try to pull that off in a tournament.

  • probably high stall count, looks like a last second throw to prevent the turn.

  • It is a scoober

  • sockeye vs. buzz bullets is always a great game

  • stupid sockeye being so ticky tack...they are damn good though...but yeah, ultimate is all about sweet bids and having fun. winning is a bonus! blatant fouls call, but let the little stuff go and respect the skills of your fellow players

    huck, bid, pillage and burn

    HUCK BID PILLAGE AND BURN!

  • Ultimate is going to need refs sooner or later if it's going to expand into a full fledged sport. People are just going to cheat, plain and simple.

  • Well ulitmate is known for "spirit of the Game"

So people who partiscipate or play the sport they have strong spirit of sportsmanship and respect

  • true.. but that's so totally gonna kill the game! ultimate is best played self officiated i feel! =)

  • GREAT game

  • I also think, that one was good!

1:20 is a crazy huck xD

  • agreed

  • 7:50 looked good to me. anyone else think so?

  • Yeah! I watched it like ten times and can't see why he thought he was out. His feet/legs are clearly dragging as he hits the ground and it looks like he had clean possesion. Were there observers? You can hear someone off camera calling OB...

  • No question, it was in bounds for sure.

  • Audio quality is terrible.

  • It is a great match to watch, aside from the jackass comment at 5:47.

  • I was rooting for the team from Japan...Sockeye are a bunch of dicks. That was a bad call at 7:52...to make that from the sideline is ridiculous.

  • idk it looked like he had best perspective, and it looked out from where the guy was taping from. so it was probably a good call.

  • I find 4:15 even worse.

  • OMG...dude, I just looked at that again. That was ridiculous...it looks like he might have given it to him ultimately...but to even call that in the first place - seriously, this is KILLING ultimate.

  • uh 4:00 is the most ridiculous scoober ever

  • definitely in...hit pause at 7:52...he catches the disc even before leaving his feet

  • exactly like jeffrey said

  • the no look pass at 3:35 is ballin

  • sweet fishing at 9.35

  • is 3:34 a no look??

  • nope.

  • yes.

  • well, he looked, saw him there, turned away and threw, so I guess it was both

  • 8:08 could have been a memorable greatest...

  • hammer ftw!

  • looked like sockeye traveled sometimes with the their give and goes. but either way sick plays from both teams.

  • You are allowed to take steps, as long as you release the disc before your third point of contact, don't speed up and don't change direction.

  • 4:19 was probably a dropped catch to be honest. great interception though.

  • but since he was on defense, does it still count as a dropped catch?

  • im not sure what play your talking about but whenever a defensive player knocks it down even if they are trying to catch it it is a turnover

  • he prob thought he caught the d but dropped it so he could cut instead of handle. w/e buzz bullets got the disc anyways

  • you're right. the hammers were particularly sick.

  • Unless you have the original video with frame-by-frame progression.... I call in, thighs landed just before elbow.

    The hammers were just sick.

  • at 7:50 the guys elbow touches out of bounds. first point of contact.

  • Look at his feet. It was a bad call by Sockeye. Just like the grounded hammer pass that Sockeye called up.

  • dont know why a few people are watching the point of his landing

instead of watching the point when he catched the disc, at 7:52 (beginning of the second), with his left leg on the ground,

    absolutely in bounds.

    it was an amazing catch

and they would have deserved to go on

ps. nice vid and nice moves :)

  • I agree with you.

  • absolutely in bounds at 7:50 and most likely down at 8:55. Still great ultimate.

  • whoa... catch @ about 3:58 is beastly.

  • They need refs for such high caliber matches, Sockeye would have no problem cheating to win anything.

  • what do you mean? sockeyes cheat?

  • yeah that was a really bad call

  • he was way in at 7:50

  • Agreed. Sick match though.
