Omg,...do you realise that jeffs leadswere together with hendrix,...do you understand where it comes from?? jimis leads were based on some of jeff stuff,,,,,DWEEBS,...
In 1968, the Jeff Beck Group played a week at a NYC club, Steve Paul's "The Scene". Jimi came each night and they jammed into the night. Can you imagine being there?
Can you imagine having the same haircut for fifty years. Still he's got to have the most recognizable sound of any living guitarist. Sorry about the hair joke. But really...
@maciverandy just saying, ppl can claim & debate who or what is better all day but not everyone will agree, people will always have a different opinion.
@maciverandy music in general in subjective anyway so theres no point in claiming something to be the best as if it were a fact (thats not aimed @ u specifically) but we can say what we like the most
@maciverandy me personally, i like srv's version a little more than jimi's but i like jeff beck's version equally the same as vaughan's. goddamn this shortage of characters per word now lol
thats narada micheal walden, who besides being one of the best drummers in the world is a legendary record producer, with more #1 singles than just about anybody
@hellofart16 yes of course there are those who are objectively better but in the case of legends like beck and hendrix, they should not be used for the purposes of pointless pissing contests. Oh btw, thank u for exposing the level of your maturity by telling me to suck your dick, something i would expect to hear from children who has some serious growing up to do:)
Jimi, Eric Clapton, Jeff Page are in a class by themselves. Jeff could have played this 40 years ago too but Jimi wrote it. By the way who is the drummer I really liked the way he did the vocals?
@1976Stratomaster Lol! Yes, over 40 years have passed since Hendrix wrote that tune and one would expect to find at least someone who could play it 'better'. But Hendrix was the original, the creator, the man who set a standard by which all other guitar players are measured. :)
@1976Stratomaster you are right Jimi is very overrated whereas other guitarists are underrated like Ritchie Blackmore I think he is very underrated that any other legendary guitarists. Just check his creation comparing DP, Rainbow & Blackmore's Night, see the variations of compositions (voice wise) remarkable.
@yugang08 But still Blackmore is never called when a guitar festival occurs or any other kind of musical program, where many legendary guitarists (clapton, jeff, page, etc.) were found, so........anyway I'd like to see Blackmore playing in G3 along with Satriani & Malmsteen, that would be fun, what do you say??
@atifeea didnt know that. he should be called given that HE to is legend in his own right just like beck, page and clapton. hes done alot for the heavy metal genre, its kind of a shame he doesnt get called. Satriani is cool, im not really a fan of malmsteen, he's mostly just speed to me and thats it, no offense. I think it sort of makes sense blackmore play with those guys so i say why not.
@yugang08 I agree with you that Malmsteen is to me just speed noting else, I don't like him at all. I just wanted to compare the playing with these three. It would be awesome if Blackmore, Jeff & Clapton what would you say? I myself a guitarist and a dying fan of Blackmore..........
@1976Stratomaster I see that you have some serious problems in your head dude! Beck is great, but to say that Jimi was overrated is nothing other than blasphemy! You should be ashamed of yourself.
Reality check: This is music, NOT religion - no such thing as "blasphemy" just musical tastes, evaluation and subjective opinion. To say that the commenter has "serious problems in (his) head" because of his opinion (that I don't agree with) is more telling on you than him. Trash talk is a waste of everybody's time. Pretend we're intelligent adults and save the trash talk for the bar where everybody's blitzed and talking horse-shit.
@martian13084 Ok man, maybe I overreacted a bit, but I hate it when people go around talking shit about Hendrix. And by the way "Music is my religion" - Jimi Hendrix. :)
To everyone doing a pissing contest between Hendrix and Beck, you guys forget they were great friends who had a great deal of mutual respect for each other. Hendrix was admired by Clapton, Beck and everyone of those English guys.
@bluesboy25000 and, notably, during the days where all the guitarists hated each other. Not like the circle jerk that goes around now, between vai and satch and petrucci, and all that lot. praise from them means piss all now. but if clapton liked you, it was against his nature of despising all competitors, and you'd really earned that respect,
@bluesboy25000 Absolutely right. I hate it when people 'pick sides' over musicians instead enjoying their individuality. They miss the whole point and sound like dopes arguing over football teams.
I don"t give a fuck for who"s better than who list, blah blah. Who can do the biggest shit, etc. When I listen to Jeff Beck I hear a total artist at work, an exceptional guitar player. Nothing more nothing less....
Great cover from an amazing musician. The drummer singing is pretty well on, also. As far as the age old debate as to who's better'? The original is always untouchable. I'd have to put SRV's instrumental above this, but not by much. Early Clapton (70's or so) just under this, and recent Clapton performances somewhere above a uke cover. I love and respect the man and his talent, but he needs to step it up, or retire.
@kimmedavid True, and what I should have said was "usually, the original is untouchable." Don't get me wrong, Dylan is a brilliant lyricist and composer, but his early work....I can sing better. And I'm tone deaf ;)
It's one thing to copy Hendrix exactly, which is hard enough. But to actually *improve* on the original, in a very original way, is another matter altogether!
For a man of his age the playing is amazing. Especially when you compare to Clapton who is a shadow of his former self. In fact I would tend to agree with chillichomper that beck was the innovator and page, clapton were followers,
This is a great cover but then again its Jeff Beck. He doesn't get the credit he deserves as far a being equivalent to hendrix. Before anyone rips me a new one for saying that lets take a look at history. In 1966 JB was already known in the Yardbirds and making all sorts of divebombs , squeals etc on his guitar. It wasn't until JH arrived on the english scene in 67 that people too notice. JB and JH already knew each and like all guitarist stole riffs from each other.
@chillichomper And .... being black in england and playing rock was a gimmick/advantage that beck didn't have. How many people give a white rapper the time of day? Hendrix wrote alot of great catchy songs but his guitar playing was never as good as JB. JB on the other hand wrote great songs too but not many could be appreciated by the neanderthals of our modern world.
Anyway if Hendrix has a white twin its beck(not SRV) and vice versa.
Jeff's done a couple of covers of Hendrix now that i've heard and I think I'd rather listen to his covers ..... and this is pushing it than Stevie Ray's. He did a cover of Manic Depression with Seal and check it out right know if you havn't heard it. It's incredible. SRV's Voodoo Chile Slight Return is still way waaaaaay up there though.
Very few covers of Little Wing include the vocals. This is one is amazing just on that account. It is even more amazing coming from Jeff Beck! I love it. From him it probably really is a tribute, since history bears it out well that they were friends.
How on Earth does this got more views than original Jimi Hendrix performance in Royal Albert Hall watch?v=d3YBf8Lo4E4 . I'm not saying this is bad interpretation, I'm just saying people rather watch (and of course listen to) Beck who is among best than Jimi Hendrix - the best ever lived!
Watch a few versions of this and you'll notice that, although the basic part is similar, Jeff will do different things during the improvised parts depending on how he's feeling. I've always preferred that to perhaps more consistent and technically "perfect" playing but without improvisation or much in the way of feeling.
Beautiful. He does justice to this amazing piece of music and you know it was Jimi who created it but no mistaking Jeff's style. He treats Jimi's work with the respect it deserves.
To play this composition with feeling and emotion is the mark of a great guitarist. To play a version of this composition and make it your own is the mark of a master!
Respect to Jeff, but remember it is easy to expand upon something that has already been created. If Jimi was still alive, at Jeff 's age, Im sure his updated version would be awesome, it would be a natural progression. Back in the day Jimi played many different live versions of most of his tunes, just as Dylan and other creative artists did, and still do.
Jeff Beck is a miracle on earth. Thanks to youtube I'm getting a chance to see all this amazing stuff he never touched back in the day. I saw him first when I was 16 and first learning guitar, and now at his advanced age he's doing things even better than then. He just gets better and better .... I hope he lives well past 100!
Perfect guitar cover of a perfect song! I can feel the love, admiration and respect for Jimi in every note. Jeff Beck understands Little Wing! Tears of joy fill my eyes!
This is really very good. Shame that the ending leant more towards the Album version rather than the Albert Hall version with a fully resolved ending. The drummer reminds me a lot of the Band of Gypsies drummer named Buddy Miles which makes it sound like a proper Gypsies tune to me. JB is the only person I have heard who could have improved on Jimi's masterpiece....and JB has managed to survive the 60's unscathed ..how does he manage it?
Jimi gets props for singing, playing lead, and thumbing a bass line in this song all at the same time. Jeff Beck does do a good job with the song though.
in the words of t-bone walker, mucic is not a competition, it is a co-operation.

@fed1126 I disagree, while I have huge respect for Jeff Beck and I really admire his talent, you can't play it better than Jimi!

That drummer is awesome ;)

This is really very good. Shame that the ending leant more towards the Album version rather than the Albert Hall version with a fully resolved ending. The drummer reminds me a lot of the Band of Gypsies drummer named Buddy Miles which makes it sound like a proper Gypsies tune to me. JB is the only person I have heard who could have improved on Jimi's masterpiece....and JB has managed to survive the 60's unscathed ..how does he manage it?
Fly on Jeff.. fly on..

Jimi gets props for singing, playing lead, and thumbing a bass line in this song all at the same time. Jeff Beck does do a good job with the song though.
