  • I have one stalking near where I live. Where should I start to learn about becoming a falconer

  • @snafuedem themodernapprentice dot c/o/m. Very good site.

  • lmao I read the title "Hunting red-tailed hawk"

  • I'm trading my hunting dog for a hawk

  • Hi there very good video

  • sweeeeet

  • Absolutely gorgeous bird.

  • Who the hell eats squirrels?

  • beautiful bird...

  • AWESOME

  • I WANNA RED TAILED HAWK NOW DDD: They're so beautiful...

  • Comment removed

  • HAHAHA :D :D ... that's an awesome lookin' chicken.. heey gimmeh one :(

i really wana get a license :/ a pet that feed itself and can play catch with.. kewl..

  • It's the O Rly Hawk!

  • @cwfhjeff @egcivicturbo So all hawks are accipitridae, but only accipiters are true hawks. the buzzards are buteos the HH are parabuteo wich in latin means similar to buteo... but in falconry means "out of this world"

In the other hand... i don't think hawking squirrels is safe for any hawk.. my birds have take them too, but i prevent them to catch them as much as i can... instead i try to hunt more on rabbits and hares. (with H.H.) i know squirrels R natural prey for them but is 2 dangerous

  • @raulishnikov Oh wow. Squirrels are not too dangerous for a red tail. They can get bitten, yes, but if you properly handle the bird and squirrel this never happens. My redtails are excellent squirrel hawks and I know many other falconers who hunt lots of squirrels, and our birds are in no danger because they know how to control a squirrel. It's natural. I don't know what kind of apprenticeship you had or who told you that squirrels shouldn't be hunted, but they are an excellent prey choice.

  • @HawkLuver I know is a natural prey for the redtails, as well as snakes, but i wouldn't chase snakes with a redtail (or any) hawk. And very nutritious, they seem to like squirrel meat a lot. I flown harrises (as well as several types of long wings) and hunted mostly rabbits and jacks, with the ocassional squirrel now and then.

  • @cwfhjeff @egcivicturbo The thing is, all of the falconry birds are from either the falconidae or the accipitridae family. The accipiters like goskawks, cooper's and the shap-shinned are from the accipritinae sub family, to these we commonly call them hawks. Then comes the buteoninae family, including all buzzards (harris too) but in many separated groups, in the buteo group red tails are classified, along with many other species. and in the other are the parabuteos.. Harris hawks.

  • I live in the state of NJ, but i'd like to ask where in Pennsylvania do you actually become a licensed falconer

  • OK, now I'm not a Falconer, though I've always wanted to be one, but am I understanding you correctly? A Red Tailed hawk is NOT a buteo but is an accipier? My understanding is that accipiters have a distinctive way of flying - flap, flap, flap, coast. I have Cooper's hawks, Red Tailed hawks and Turkey Vultures in abundance around here and I thought the Coopers were accipiters and the Red Tailed hawks were buteos (jamaicensis or there abouts). Am I wrong?

  • @G3NIUS2011 Red tailed Hawks belong to the family accipitridae thus making it part of the accipiter family however broken down further to distinguish variations in the raptors

  • @egcivicturbo

    Try Bueto family...

  • @G3NIUS2011 I disagree in old world it was called buteo meaning common buzzard with a large body and wings however this does not mean the red tail is not a hawk...Hawk is used in north america and is used in may different ways belonging to different genera most commonly used in the usa to describe a raptor of any sort... however hawk and buteo are the same...in old world times the didnt have a way to differentiate the variation.. so any raptor was a buteo

  • Maybe if the cobra didn't suck at fighting...

  • @G3NIUS2011 oh I see. I always knew that RT's were part of the buteo family, not the accipiters, but I didnt think that it mattered beyond being just a simple name difference- but like you said, if the the wings and tails are designed differently, then i guess they should be distinguished as 2 different classes. I'll admit, im kind of dissappointed they arent "true" hawks. Oh well.

  • omg this is awesome i want a hawk like that and paint it red then hunt stuff :D

  • Way to go patrick.

  • Comment removed

  • is there a way to teach them to retrieve?

  • @G3NIUS2011 any bird of prey is called a buzzard i think. exept for owls.

  • @G3NIUS2011 So a typical red tailed hawk isnt a hawk?

  • Awesome Red Tailed hawk you got there!!

Just don't get him to hunt Pigeons Lol I like pigeons also :P

  • that's awesome!

  • ten out of ten your a credit to us austringers leemster y21z out.

  • I want to get my falconers license so bad! Great vid though. It is very interesting, and I am a Buteo jamaicensis freak!

  • @AustinGuitarz42 Did you got it finally?

  • how could you dislike this it is very interesting.

  • thats so cool..

  • where do you get certified to become a falconer?

  • Hey- can any1 tell me difference between falcon/hawk/eagle ?

  • @shanu7uday They have differences in size, wing span and wing shape, and hunting methods and territory.

  • @Tuckerscreator so whic 1 is largest & aggressive?

  • @shanu7uday Eagles are the largest, and are built for soaring. Hawks are medium sized, and built for smaller forests. Falcons are smallest, and are built for speed. Eagles can hunt large animals like wolves and goats, hawks stick to rabbits, gophers, and squirrels, and falcons typically hunt other birds like ducks and sparrows.

  • This is awesome dude, way to go!

  • so cool :)

  • good job, i will get my falconary license soon,

  • I swear if i had 3 wishes one of em would be to have a pet red-tailed hawk who was even more loyal than this one.

  • Cool job.

  • Good job taking care of beautiful animals.

    Great for wild life conservationists.

    Awesome video.

  • I'd be interested in becoming a falconer (no I don't know one.. :() but tihs video is pretty awesome. Do you live in lancaster? I have family there :D

  • Everyone asking about becoming a falconer... just go online and look up the regulations. First and foremost you have to be sponsored. So if you don't know a licensed senior falconer... forget it.

  • i live in pa and im very confused is the law 12 or 16 because the website says 12 but the falconier im been talking to says its 16 thanks if you could answer

  • Greetings from White Sands New Mexico. I suspect that I am seeing Red Tailed Hawks in my area. I live at the foot of a mountain just out side of Alamogordo,NM. I have seen and heard hawks that resemble the Red Tail Hawk, but after searching several sites on the internet. I find very little information about these birds and my area. The information I have found has either been very vague or lacking in content. I would like to compare the Red Tail Hawk to The New Mexico Raven.

  • i live in Puerto Rico and theres like a whole lotta red tail hawks heres, right in my backyard! his most common enemy here is tha gray kingbird! you can see them running away from the gray kingbirds cause they atack them to protect their nests its kinda funny to see the smaller birds picking on the big ones!

  • i watch them hunt rabbits and gophers

  • be good to hunt squirrels with

  • good good

  • gorgeous!

  • Do you have to take any tests? And how much $ does it take to buy one of these awesome birds?

  • HI!..I LIVE IN THE STATE OF PA,,,I HAVE A QUESTION ? IS IT HARD TO GET THE PERMIT???DO I HAVE TO HAVE A BIG YARD? OR IS IT OKAY IF I HAVE A BIG CAGE? I AM VERY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS, THANK YOU ,HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU VERY SOON.

  • i had an immature red tail that i had trapped but i had to let it go about 2 months later because it had a virus called pox and having her captive didnt make it better so we let her go in a nice environment full of rabbits, and btw why were u lewer flying your only supposed to do that with kestrals and small birds of falconry
