  • Journal of the Goat. Follow the goat around for a month in day-in-the-life format. You can find an Englishman to narrate like on National Geographic.

  • ".....don't look at me like that...."

BWAHAHAHA i always say that to my doggies (i dont eat them, i don't plan on eating them...)

  • Comment removed

  • Do you keep him at the yurt with you and if so does he have a place he stays out of the weather?

  • I had some goats a few years ago and had a billy that looked alot like yours. When it would rain and he would get wet you could smell him 200 yards away.It was like gps to help you find him.I enjoy your videos very much.roger from Indiana.

  • lol...WHOSA GOODGOAT, WHOSA GOODGOAT?! You think this would work with my German Shepard?

  • is the goat pack just a horse back saddle bags?

  • ***** Dave !

  • Now I understabd .

Now I understand D. Washington dragging a goat to war in the flick "Glory". See YouTube "Glory (1989) Part 2/8"

  • you can eat it, milk it (for females), use the hide-bones-horns, use it to drag your sled, make it a bate, sell it to santa claus as a backup for an ill deer. that's the versatile "pathfinder" goat! XD

  • how do you charge all of your elctronics and how do you resharpen your cuttery equipment i watched you from dual survial and here on youtube some of you hnting fishing slingbow and makeing bows and a butch of other outdoor activites i always wanted to live out in the woods like you do in the yurt videos great work on evry thing adn youur awesome thanks p.b.l.d.h.sam

  • I am a big fan and would love to meet you.and you and Cody work good on dual survival

  • Where did you get the sled for the goat? Would a deer drag sled used for hunting work?

  • I wonder what Cody Lundin would think of the Yurt/goat project ;)

He's probably rubbing his hands together on the next step to getting you barefoot in the bush.

  • Here is the video with the man using Sacks for a cot and pillow. Thought you might find it interesting. 'bushcraft survival long term wilderness shelter patr 4 of 7 making a raised cot'.

  • I saw a man in Europe using Sacks that he carried with him. He ended up having a makeshift cot, and a pillow filled with leaves. The 3 sacks didn't weight much and were great for getting one's body off the ground. Have you seen this video or have any experience with sacks? Oh,,and loved the video Dave. I'm getting ready to prompt all of my facebook 'Friends' to Subscribe to your channel. Don't know why I haven't so far. Love all that you do, Brother. Thank you for everything. God bless!

  • where do you get your wool long johns

  • Raised with goats as. Kid and used them with a cart and sled. A goat raised with your kids will adopt them. They will defend them and against a dog they can do a pretty good job. If you start leading them young it don't take long and you don't need a lead rope. Forget cows! Survival goats are it!

  • My father always used to say: If you want to learn how to curse, buy a goat. And if you buy a goat, also buy a rifle...

Is the goat female? Because of the possibillity to source milk from it and the (maybe) better manners.

I think a Yak would also be a good survival companion. Can carry more weight, but is less low profile and eats more.

  • @repelstee1 tanner is a male

  • Man I love your pack setup, so simple and effective! Awesome stuff Dave, take care and stay safe man!

  • What are the 10 C's of selling your wife on getting a pet pack goat? Not sure where to start with that one...lol

  • is he just like living out there without help or anything for so so amount of days or is he getting outside help? (he got a shave)

  • lol almost took a horn to the eye a few times

    love your vids

  • What breed is it?

  • A goat MRE !!- I needed that so bad man. LOL does not even get it.. Thanks for making these vids !

  • Hey Dave, Where did you get that pack that you are using for the 10 C's that you carry? Please let me know. Thanks brother.

  • Just hanging out you know... with my pet goat...

  • I would have never thought of a goat as a pack animal. Thank you for your videos.

  • Knife company he mentioned is, Blind Horse Knives.

  • that goat looked so pissed wher you called him a MRE

  • What is the knife manufacturer he mentions? Can't make it out.

How bouts a girl goat? Drink the milk. XD

  • @mrbippy I was wondering the same thing. Seems like a female goat would meet the requirement of having multiple uses for everything that you take. Heck, she might even eventually attract a male goat to your location and double the MREs!

  • @mrbippy Goat milk is good for the stomach . I have ulcers and goat milk really helps with that and acid reflux .( this info has been handed down for generations in my family )

  • nice video

where did you get that scouting bag dave ?

  • thanx dave

  • My father is a land surveyor and he used to have a pack goat he name "TOTE" and he used him to carry his tripod and surveying gun

  • isnt this an older video?

  • Great Dave! now how to I start that conversation with my wife? You know honey.........I was thinking we should get a goat. I may need to buy a yurt too just so I have something to live in. :)

  • Any concerns about the goat attracting predators into the camp?

  • Ha ha this video i had to watch again the goat is funny, good vid

  • Your portable MRE looks worried...lol

  • About two minutes into the video my wife says no goat! I'm still trying for the chickens.

  • Just want to reiterate what a great series these videos are! I'm really enjoying them. Check out the channel "goathiker" here on YouTube. It's got some good info in raising pack goats.

  • Dave - is your goat a random animal or is he bred for pack work. what about trainability? is there one breed that is easier to work with then the other?? thanks -

  • hey dave where did you get that smaller nesting cup for the kleen kanteen bottle. the vargo titanium one is to big. i need one that fits the kleen kanteen like the one you have? your help would be great. thanks

  • @survival919 SNOW PEAK

  • @wildernessoutfitters walmart sales a coleman camping cups for about 20bucks and i believe one of them fits it..

  • @survival919 REI brand single wall titanium cups also nest under clean canteen perfect. Snow peak nest better under Nalgene SS or Guyot SS bottles.

  • QUESTION: Dave or anyone. Please can you recommend to me a watch with a compass (good outdoors/bushcraft watch with helpful appropriate features) like yours. I think its a great idea. I live in the UK, so please don't recommend any US products unless they are available online. Thanks.

  • Daves 10 "C's" of survival is now revised to include, "hot >>> C <<<hocolate" !!!

LOL Dave, you keep your essentials in your own pack eh.. ;) Loving the series.

    (UK noob bushcrafter)

  • Love the Goat Dave!!

  • he s wondering who the heck are you talking to? . thats why he looks at you like that

  • I love how after you tell the goat that he is a possible menu option and not necessarily a pet, he gives you "the look" and then shakes his head like "aw heck no" and walkes out of the lense view. lol

  • Dave, What kind of goat is that?

  • @robangelakids The eating kind... ;)

  • Since I have a service dog she carries some of my stuff when I go hiking. Not much just an extra liter of water, and usually beef jerky or a snack of some kind. She also carries a small 4x4 tarp for herself and a light fleece blanket and about a 4lbs bag of her own food. I carry her water dish with me just because her pack is too small. I have seen many large breed dogs as well pull carts with items in them. But as you said they can only carry about 1/4 their weight. Just nice to have a friend.

  • @Popeye1117 collapsible dog bowls man. Look into them. Fold up real small.. can get a food and water bowl into a 4x4 pouch.

  • @njerseydavid It's on the list man. among many other things I can't afford to buy just now.

  • Tanner is a cool looking goat.

  • hey dave, how cold does it have to be before you gotta worry about that goat freezin' outside the yurt?

  • It will be interesting to see how well the goat moves loaded with gear and scrambling through adverse terrain.

  • @spiralcosmosart goats are kings of rough terrain, Id say its the perfect small pack animal.

  • You might put a couple of road flares in the goats pack. Those can be used to signal, start fire and will burn long and hot enough to dry out wet wood.

  • this is by far the ultimate bug out vehicle I have kept them for years perfect survival animal will go where you can't and like people.

  • I really like that backpack, so neat and simple. Cant believe its so expensive. =(

  • Great as always, Dave. Thanks for all of the lessons and ideas.

  • Any footage with tanner loaded?

  • Thats a really cool idea, I only own a fainting goat but i guess it would be a bad idea to practice with him, Probably cough loud or somthing and the poor old thing would faint and roll down the side of a mountain with all my stuff.

  • wish I were you

  • Thanks Dave. The older I get the more I want to carry, but the older I get the less I can carry!

  • as soon as you talked about eaten him and he understood this.... he gave you a LONG knowing look Dave.

  • nice vid. i learn ALOT from your vids and this kinda makes me wana buy a goat

  • Dave,

Your are 100 % right about goats. Been goat packing for a few years myself.

  • Dave I would really like to see a scenario on SAN where a couple guys with little self reliance experience get lost hiking and have atleast the 10 C's on hand. or an averages backpackers contents. that would be interesting to those of us that haven't yet taken one of your courses.

  • Great Idea Dave! Never thought of a goat as being a "stealth" pack animal.I have 3 Pygmy goats.I don't think they could carry much though. Greatly enjoy your channels.Keep them coming. The information and your teachings are invaluable that you share with everyone.I have implemented and put to good use a lot of these myself. I watch and take notes of your videos. Then when I get to my camp site, I try one or another, hopefully making myself more self reliable as I learn. God Bless!!

  • An MRE!

  • Hey Dave, I agree with the guy on the last video, could you do a video on some of the stories behind your tattoos? Thanks for keeping this series going, they pack a lot of information!

  • Hi dave love your stuff. Will tanner do the bolt if a predator scares him . Cheers Dazza

  • Another good one Dave, thanks.

  • pretty funny same guy i got into it with lastnight. what would you do if you did have to eat tanner? with all the gear he carrys. pretty cool video not sure when or how i would use a goat if i had one. you going to carry goats on the pathfinder store lmao. thanks Dave

  • Dave,

Does the goat demonstrate any value in terms of early warning? I know geese are used around some military installations for that purpose.

  • an old car tire with supported and nailed to the top of your chopping block.. allows all the wood to stand tall and still (if you load up the tire) and it chops just as easily without flying off... less bending, more chopping... the less you have to touch a pice of wood the better :) though your camp won't look as 'rustic' and 'woodsy' it's how do you put it.. functionable not fasionable and not unreasonalbe to find an old tire in a 'grid down' nomadic survival situation

    -RLTW

  • Mr. C (reminds me of Happy Days....) you 'TV' is way better though.... just spent the last 2 days catching up on all the Yurt videos... awesome... though most of these will be goat comments i'm sure, in the thought of sharing ideas to make nomad life easier... you spend a lot of time chopping wood... and most of that time is spent bending over and picking it up... i'll share a tip I learned to make it easier (if i can post again .. out of space...)

  • 1 small note to kid when your trying out the chrome part in the flash light "DO NOT"!!! Look directly in to it. it will burn your eyes from the sun.its the same as looking at the ark from a welder

  • Hey dave, were did you get those gloves they seem like a verry well made pair of gloves!

  • I'm happy to report my little test has worked.took all the grease from the hamburger and made one hell of a candle. Thanks Dave .and Cedar makes a excellent fire starter board.I had to use Mesquite for the spinnal. and bow. but WOW cedar makes an amber fast very little down word pressure and it really starts to smoke fast.I would also like to report the chrome part in the flash light work great to.Again thanks Dave

  • My wife wants to know about training your goat and his harness, store bought or home made?

  • well done brother. love your work. wish i had a goat so i could us it to take all my gear too but i live in a Australia and i don't have a goat, so will a kangaroo do the job hahah (joke). well keep up the good work my friend.

  • I miss your beard.

  • What kind of cold temperatures can the goat handle?

  • Putting that billy to work is a great idea. They're easily handled and pretty well fend for themselves in the woods. Just don't show him off too much. Else someone is liable to "get your goat." hahahahaha!

  • Hey dave good job.

I am a big fan of you.

  • Good Vid thank makes the day go by fast watching the Vids.

  • Hey dave, great videos! I'm hoping that you return to the caves someday and maybe record spending a night there. They were so freakin' cool!! thanks for everything

  • Casio Pathfinder is the watch....It looks like the triple sensor

  • hey dave check out this peice of gear from gerber...Gerber 22-41420 Gator Axe II Combo

  • @jrodaub Brother families and youths watch this channel, I have no problem with Jokes but sexual content is a problem. as well as the language in this post, I dont hardley ever block people but you need to keep this in check from here on my man.

  • @wildernessoutfitters im not real good with polotical corectness and theirs nothing wrong with what i posted earlier their was no foul language in my earlier post and nothing overly sexual about it either. and i understand you should remove the above post

  • @wildernessoutfitters I agree. The joke may be funny, I don't know, but I don't want my 5 year old sister seeing that crap. Im a kid and I know this. Need I say more?!

  • What kind of watch do you have?

  • davw the goat can also be a early warning system big fan of your work keep it up

  • Hey Dave, What kind of watch do you wear and what other options does it have besides the compass?

    Thanks, DJ

  • Hey Dave, Who makes that scout pack? Looks like a Filson but was just wondering.

  • @rogersmt Its from Duluth Pack. They're a little spendy but have a life time warranty on them and are virtually indestructible.

  • Dave, I dont think Tanner liked the MRE comment. ha ha LOL

  • Down here in Texas they call goat meat Cabrito and it's not that bad, love the vids Dave but I'm not sure how I feel about having the same name at the goat LOL

  • @shannonbtanner I'm from tx to and love goat. Also have Bar b doe sheep.better than deer meat..

  • great vid Dave! Where can I get a goat.

  • you should make a closer view of that nessmuk knife

  • LOL 1:32

  • Dave Someday I am going to try and trap/catch a young male kid wild goat and raise him to be a pack goat for me. That would be so cool. Tanner is beautiful

  • The best video so far!

  • Dave ive noticed that you always change what you carry in your bags .

  • @AJ14615 Everything is situationally dependant but you must remember to consider the 10 C's in some form and then you can vary to the environment, weather, or intention of the trek.

  • @AJ14615 the indevidual item or brand is not important as its functionality...i bet he always has his "10 C's" in some form.

  • @AJ14615 Another reason,is that a Survival Kit isn't always set in stone. You're gonna find something that suits you a little more than something you used to have, or something that goes well with the items you already have. Don't limit yourself to just taking Dave's 10c's and then never touching your kit's setup again. Always search and experiment to find what best suits you. I like to pack 6-8 clothesline pins, so my wet socks don't end up in my fire.

  • Cooler Hund...ach nee das ist ja eine Ziege xD...hihi....*lach*

  • Great!

  • Hey Dave, just noticed you and the goat have the same beard.

  • great now my goat has a new job....

To drag my stuff trough the wilderness !

  • what do you think about dogs that were bred for pulling like a Newfoundland or a Bernese Mountain Dog, i know they need special food, but they are better and easier to train and if it gets cold the can be a living radiator.

  • Serious goat is very serious.

  • Dave, maybe you can just set up a 24 hour Yurt webcam. I could watch these videos, 24/7. Great job.

  • Great video as always Dave...=) Cant wait for the next one...!

  • I have watched tis video several times and after you mention Tanner being an MRE and after the stare down he shudders and shakes his head kind of like I don't think so lol Tanner sure does have personality. During WW2 there were few strays wandering the streets because they were used for food. I guess when it boils down to survival you have to do what you have to do.

  • nice pack, but i dont know what i do if i didnt have my Camelback Motherload. I bought it when i was in Germany while in the Army. I can put anything and everything in it. I still use it for daily use today. Great stuff Dave.

Hell i take that bag to BMW were i work.

  • Thanks for the video

  • eat the goat, skin him, tan the hide, and wear it as a loin cloth

  • Look of Disgust!

"Don't look at me like that!"

    Great video Dave.

  • Great video Dave:)

  • milk the goat

  • @peasantchurl It's a male?

  • @wildernessoutfitters Exactly!!

  • @wildernessoutfitters If you milk the male goat he will follow you any wheres ; )

  • what about first aid?

great video i really enjoyed it.

  • Journal of the Goat !

    Great Idea whoever suggested it.

    Great video Dave

  • How do goats feel about water? Are there options of getting them into a canoe for longer travel?

  • iwe watched this series from the beginning of it and i am really liking it keep it up. greetings from finland

  • Dave,

This is by far the funniest video you have made. Do you think the goat understood what an MRE is ? Too funny begining to this video. Really enjoyed it. Keep them coming!

  • I admire your enthusiasm for the outdoors. It is like none other I've ever seen. Very inspirational. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • deluth, packing goats since 2012

  • Lol the goat need a rail mount then it will be tactical !!

Lol love the goat idea !

  • Bear sacrifice!!! Multi use goat can also be sacrificed to a bear if you ever cross one on the trail.

  • Cudos Dave. I've been preaching goats forever.

  • Dave,

Do you have to provide any special bedding or shelter for Tanner in wintery conditions?

    Ronnie

  • dude make a big ass wagon and have like 4-5 goats pulling you around

  • Do you have other goats than tanner dave? If so can you do a series with multiple goats harnessed moving more equipment? THAT would be the bomb.

  • You can harness 2 or 3 goats together "dogsled" style and move a lot more equipment. Takes a bit of training but I've seen it done. Entire families move their camps this way.

  • I reviewed the video on the Dulth tarp. Yours is a 7x7, a prototype,I presume as small in size as possible to reduce weight of the tarp. I trust canvas to take a beating and resist UV. However, I had a 10 x12' 1000 denier custom tarp made to keep one dry in monsoon rains. It won't rot. It weighs 9#. Going with a 500 denier Cordura nylon would cut the weight in half and been a more sensible and still be very durable. A 10x10 in canvas would be good for the worst weather here in the states.

  • LOL! That's hilarious how he looked at you after you commented about eating him. Love the concept. Wish I had some land to have an animal like that.

  • Hey Dave, I'd really like to see a better picture of that blanketpin/ striker. Love your videos!

  • @Satyrsen You can find it on his webstore...

  • Fantastic. I've joked with my girlfriend about taking a donkey on a week long hiking trip, but alas, I am without ass ;). Maybe a goat would be a more realistic option.

  • ★★★★★

Is all i can say!! Keep it up Dave.Keep liking and subscribe he deserves it!

  • @greatbloke I second that....journal of the goat. Dave keep up the awesome work. It is very appreciated! God Bless!

  • 1:50: Tanner isn't look around, he's looking at you! I can see the bubble over his head, "WTH are you talking about, Dave!"

  • That goat is cool

  • whats the second sharping tool I know ones a small diamond rod whats the other???

  • Next series... Journal of the goat.

  • I'd kinda like to see you actually load up the goat, then do a little traveling. Just enough to demonstrate the practical application of trying to get the goat to carry your stuff WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.

  • Just don't have him out during gun season in Ohio...No doubt he would get popped

  • @lawfin60 A game warden friend of mine said he was working a deer check station and some idiot actually brought a dead goat in.

  • the goat has your beard

  • rubber boots that is all.

  • Dave is living the LIFE! A modern day Henry David Thoreau!

  • I wish have a dad like you Dave!!

  • great video! and it is no animal cruelty because he doesn't carry to much! <3

  • Dave, I've been noticing in many of these recent videos, you're not doing much in the way of "First Aid" anymore. It's seldom addressed. I know there has always been the idea the Duck tape and some form of cotton rag or bandana could cover most concerns and I know that you care a repair needle to sew yourself up if needed (Seen you do it, yuk.) but just wondering if you changed a part of your philosophy?

  • What's the goat's name?

  • @BradinOkinawa Tanner Says it @ :58 or so
