@MahayPL sorry budd the 14th brooklyin arent zouaves they wore red pants but they are cousher style pantsand red trim on there jackets there not considered to be zouaves there more of a cousher styler unit . zouaves wore pantiloons that were cut below the knee . and the 14th brooklyin isint even in this video the 114th penn is collis zouaves . also the 14th brooklyin wore forage caps not fezes with turbans .
The sad part is that the Civil war was more than a war between Americans, it was a war between brothers, households were literally split in two as brothers and fathers and uncles went to fight for either side...but it was still more tragic than that...The Irish were in great numbers in both sides, in fact at Fredricksburg a regiment of Irish from the North and South each met each other in battle...I dunno about any of you but I don't think I could bring myself to pull a gun on my countrymen...
its kind of weird that the irish helped america and we dident help them ever i think america needs to thank ireland cause america could be way diffrent if ireland dident help
@TheThegreatmightypoo Well it wasn't like Ireland the nation it's self helping , it was all the Irish immigrants coming to America joining or drafted to the Union army...
@burnthebrits My great uncle was being shipped to Europe in 1917 and was told that the US troops may be used to police Ireland. Before he had to make the decision of who to support, someone came to the realization that the US forces were heavily populated by Irish and it would not be a good idea to station them in Ireland so he ended up in France. The Irish have only one desire: Leave us alone, if you don't then you will pay. Just look at what happened at Cowpens.
@Gaurdsman221 indeed my man. But it's funny hearing an Irishmen calling the South traitors when he most likely didn't even fully understand what was going on, having just come from Ireland. You know what I mean? I had Cherokee ancestors fight for the Confederacy, very honorable indeed
@MrDixieLove I am with you sir. History (or northern writers) seem to forget the Southern Irish units that fought with distinction; companies in the 5th and 24th Georgia, 17th Virginia, 7th and 13th Louisiana, 10th Tennessee, and many, many more.
@AggieDon2012 they arent the only ones forgotten there are many irish regiments all over the world nerver mentioned...like the ones in the aussie, new zeland, french, british and german armies to name a few...
You must know there is a mixture between arabs and berber in north africa, for exemple I'm arab and berber and this is for that we have not exactly the same face that the other arab country ;)
@mouka100 The Zouaves of the French Army of Africa were recruited from the Zouaoua, one of the Berber people of North Africa, not Arabs, from between 1831 to 1871. After 1871, the regiments were no longer volunteers from the local people but conscripted French settlers.
I love this song as it is falsch. It reminds me of vietnam..where only the ignorant and poor went to war. The middle class found doctors to say their kids were cripple.
Once again Irish men stand and fight for the freedom of an oppressed people (African Americans) but yet when we need help ,where were they to help us when we needed them? Half of American owes this small Island more than they could ever imagine.
@burnthebrits Actually, the Irish hated the blacks. Might want to look at the Draft riots of NYC in 1863. The Irish resented blacks for taking their jobs at cheaper wages, and because of that, a vast majority of the Irish in America despised and hated all blacks.
@privatewhitford the ones who hated blacks fought for the south as they wanted to keep slavery they were not true Irish men, no real Irish man would look down on any black man as they had felt how it feels to be under someones boot, Douglas an O'Connell were great friends black an white men who didn't see a difference between colours the way a true Irish men see the world, we the Irish people will stand with anyone seeking freedom from oppression regardless of skin colour.
@burnthebrits Well that couldn't really be more wrong. Sorry to tell you but the racism was just as high in the north as in the south. Irishmen in the north hated black people because they were taking jobs at cheaper pay. They were people right off the boats, so yeah, they were true Irishman.
@burnthebrits It's completely false that you say Irish who "hated black" fought for the South. That insults me, for my ancestors fought for the South. I also have Cherokee-indian ancestors who fought gloriously for the South, and claimed many yankee scalps (as the traditional family story goes haha) Yankee Irish, a great number of them, hated blacks. It wasn't about that. It was about independance from a Unitary government. The Union didn't care about Ireland. They just drafted them. Sad really
@burnthebrits Sorry but my Grandmother and father are of Irish decent. And I dont think we owe the Island shit.We owe the Irish that came here. Not the Island
@burnthebrits Yeah, the freedom of an oppressed people..themselves. The Irish didn't care if the blacks had freedom, they hated black people, they feared if they fought in the war and come back to the north , the blacks would have taken their factory jobs because a black man would work really cheap. Ever hear of the New York City draft riots of 1863, The Irish burned down an Black orphanage and killed blacks in the streets. You obviously know nothing of American History...
@killingwithasmile182 Well said, me-bucko. As an Irish descendant myself, it's a sad but true fact that the Irish... broken, famined, dispersed, were often the thugs, cops and low-paid mercenary "volunteers" desperate enough to kill other people in return for some food and a place to sleep. I don't know the full story of this brigade, but I suspect these noble words and sounds were attached long after the dirty deeds were done.
@burnthebrits Many Irish fought for the South like Patrick Cleburne who was one of the greatest Confederate generals and didn't believe in slavery and fought for states rights and his new home in the South. Most Irish didn't care about blacks but really joined to fight because they felt they were fighting for their new home in America wether it be North or South.
@AUG351 All too true So many Irish on both sides give their life blood so that outhers might profit from same....'A Baynote that's a weapon with a working man at either end'....'betray your country serve your class don't sign up for War'
@burnthebrits I have men on both sides, right out of Cork, Kerry and Limerick in this war. The South never fought for slavery, the North made that up. They wanted to be independent from the north, and to finally have a country independent of a government that was foreign or not of the same opinion of the south.
I feel I should add that one's children went into the Fenian Brotherhood and one who stayed in Ireland found for the IRA.
@burnthebrits I love Ireland, just spent 6 months living there. Not the country of my birth but the country for which I hold my greatest affection. However, the IRB was founded in America, the Irish Revolution would not have been possible without widespread American support. Eamon de Valera spent a year in America courting Irish-American support. The Irish had an incredible and wonderful impact on this country and I am proud to have that heritage, but America has helped our Irish friends too
@MVCoty 258,000 Southern People died for a cause they believed in. And many more have died in the 140 years since fighting for our country. Such discriminatory comments have no place.
@AGoodOldRebel Excuse me kind sir, but first of all that comment was made jokingly and if you could not find the humor in it then I apologize for your blindness. But if we want to be serious about this then lets examine your foolhardy comment. Those 258,000 people fought for a cause, yes. But they fought for a cause that included the denial of liberty to some. Those who deny liberty to other do not deserve it for themselves..
@MVCoty A joke, point taken. But I think such jokes are a little old. Slavery was not at issue until 2 years into the war, Till then "If I could win the war with out freeing any slaves, I would do that to preserve the union." Abe Lincoln. Racial discrimination was universal in the US for many years after the war. If you want to talk more I can give you my Gmail.
Thanks for the 'kind sir'. A polite person online is worth their weight in platinum
@AGoodOldRebel And as for your comment about the 140 years people have died since, they have died under the stars and stripes, the constitution, and the decleration of independence and the ideals that all men are created equal and have the God given right of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not under the stars and bars and the oppression that they put on others.

I fail to see how either "right" or "ride" is more "phonetic" than the correct "write."
"hapabu" probably is a mishearing of "hubabu." From the context it means "hullabaloo:" a confused noise.
