@PastShadow From the looks of the new trailer, it does look like the case. They seem to look back a bit to the series' roots for this next installation.
I guess I'm the only semi-cheater who assigned the buttons used for Critical Edge to R2; the only disadvantage to that is that you have to wait until your opponent's health is almost fully diminished to execute it, or else you'll get through half of it and you'll stop and your weapon gauge will deplete by a third every time you do it but don't finish it.
These are fucking impossible to do, it's bullshit really... takes months to learn how to do these... great game either way but horrible slow controls.
i wish they had this in sc4 or 3 or 2 this was so tight and then on top of that if you use it too much the sword will break and you have to fight with bare hands
that was the best this game was really great for playstation
when I use to play this game, it felt like it has ps2 graphics, now I look now the graphics went terrible, but it still a good game, soul edge is better than soul blade
i just dont get how to do the critical edge. in my whole entire experience of playing soul blade, i've only ever done the critical edge twice and that was with mitsuguri. i done it once in training and once on edge master mode and i had no idea how i managed to pull it off. i can do the start of it ok but i cant finish it. its just so fuckin hard ti do and it drivin me nutz. i cant complete taki, shes the only one tht i have to do left coz mitsurugi was just pure luck.
As every player has press buttons in different way I can only advise you to try to time the last input of 2nd part of CE around time as character lands the last hit of 1st part of CE. For example Taki's CE - A+B+K and then 8, 2, B+K. A+B+K do some sets of moves - the 1st part of CE. The timing for the 2nd input should be timed so that you hit B+K around the same time as character lands the last move from 1st part of CE.
I hope this my explanation isn't too much confusing and will help you :)
been a while since i completed it but yeah it helped
had to work out a pc-ps translation seems i got the ps1 version but i never realised it was timing based
took me 10 years but i finally completed edgemaster mode with all characters now (might seem like a long time but my total saved time is only 5 and a half hours)
sorry its been a while since you posted this but yeah it did help
had to change the 8, 2 to a up, down seems i got the ps1 version but i never realised it was timing based, i always rushed it when i was younger (hadn't played it in about 7 years)
took me 10 years but i finally completed edgemaster mode with all characters (seems like a long time but my total saved time is only 5 and a half hours and consider it had been gathering dust for 7 of them)
Well my guess is because they changed some tactical elements of gameplay like discard of Weapon Gauge and effect of loosing weapon which was one of main disadvantages of Critical Edge. And replaced it with Soul Charge moves and tactics :). But in SCIV we are getting part of it back in form of Critical Finish :D
And I just want to notice that Li Long in SCIII still had his old Critical edge :)
haha I used to delete my saved file over and over again so I can redo edge master mode. Things missing from Soul Calibur series:
- Edge Master Mode
- Fighting with bare hands
- TEAM BATTLE MODE!!!
- Critical Edge
- Super high jumps

Yeah this game was awesome, I used to play it all the time. It was one of my favorite playstation games. The music was some of the best I ever heard.
Critical Edges were hard to do, but I managed to eventually get them in the blademaster mode when I needed to.

Wow, good ol Soul Edge, great gaming era *wipes tear*. Was something great and alternative to the scene.
I really hope SC4 has these, these are similar to Tekken's 10-hitters, but with the speed of KI's(say it with me now...)
