@mjay22 Salgari, the writer of the original novel, never actually travelled far out of Italy, let alone far east. He made most things up or took em from other sources. That's why his Malaysia is not the real one... furthermore, I think in the seventies was easier to shoot in Sri Lanka than Malaysia, as they were more used to host film crews and had had many films shot there. Anyway, it's not like Sandokan was an historical figure, it's a fantasy character, thus his world is fantastic too.
