This is 74' at Don Kirshners rock concert you're right this is ol Waylon in his prime nobody I mean nobody not jones or haggard or cash could do it this good and that's why Waylon is the face and sound of country music it also didn't hurt that he had the best steel guitar player ever backing him up " show em the foot that Merle Haggard a star Moon " - Waylon
@waylonfan01 Great info, but have to disagree with you about Cash. Cash was the man in that area. But Waylon was a very close second. I actually enjoy Waylon's music more, but Cash ran the show.
not being much of a country music fan, but as a guitar player I'm always looking to "broaden" my playing. I've been told by some of the older guys that Waylon could really play that Tele. My search hasn't turn up much so far. Can somebody point me to some good examples? thx.
@1971Goldtop Waylon played a style called "chicken pickin" and unfortunately it's not seen too much anymore. It's not a real flashy style of playing if that is what you are looking for. He does a couple licks toward the end of this video. It involves some finger picking technique or mixture of a pick/middle finger like waylon. It is very rhythmic and it is part of Waylon's signature sound. I like to throw it into songs as the rhythm guitar part because I think it adds some drive.
@1971Goldtop he takes a solo in I've Always been Crazy from the Lost Outlaws Performance at about 2:00 minute mark is a little better example. It is on here somewhere. Waylon is my favorite.
