This is not rotoscoped. The animation moves with the same fluidity and carefulness of other pieces of Russian animation. Some key poses may have been traced, but the way characters move in this short is definitely not human. It's quite impressive though. I'd actually like to know the process used to make this.
wow! intense animation! Why can't there be more stuff that's almost as good as this?...Because it's too painstaking. Why else should we go for stuff like anime(where everyone looks the same, except with a different wig, body shape.), or cartoons that are animated worse than south park(and I mean worse, but of course south park is outrageously funny, and not that bad), because it's easier to do than this! But anyway this is intense animation right here!
There's actually a lot of good quelity animation as this, shorts and feature films require some quality to be acepted. When you animate for TV, or when you don't have enough budget, you use to make limited animation. When you work for Tv, time is too short to develop a episode the same quality a feature film that takes years.
i seen the "masters of russian animation" back in 1998 on tv and almost bought the whole collection but never got around to placing an order.....after ten years of regret im glad and very gr8ful to see them on here...thank you!

amazing animation, but still i find the animation itself to be rather lacking in compared to Japanese animation. its the art and attention to detail and styling that makes this animation so amazing.
You can compare classical and pop music. Tempo, bass, intruments, volume, placement of crescendo and many other points. You can compare Japanese and Russian animations in the same way, though not on the same points.
Compare a Schubert lieder with a pop song, perhaps you can do that because they are both short vocal works, but only to certain extent. But a comparison between a Mahler symphony with pop or rock music is completely out of the question, because they are conceived and executed on different scales, and their ranges of expression are on different levels.
Pop music is created to make money, lots and lots of money. Classical music is not(most of them are not).
Japanese anime are commercial products; this one is purely artistic."
This only goes to show that you've not really delved much into the high-art side of japanese animation.
Watch Satoshi Kon's, Hayao Miyazaki's, or Katsushiro Otomo's movies. Hell, even check out some of Osamu Tezuka's animated films - several of which to this day are inventive and incredible works of art.
Im so glad that the Russians did all these great animations, its soooo much greater than all he crap that Disney is twrowing at out nowadays(Old Disney is also top class)
Love the music. <3

@RaptorFarmer Watch "Vampires of Geona" and "АМБА". Last soviet days-animations, with a old anime style =)
usuariofuturista 1 year ago
@RaptorFarmer
It would never had became popular because America did everything possible to hide and distort every good thing that came out the Soviet Union.
The Soviet Union is gone now. And so we have south park and family guy. And that´s all we´ll have.

there were many battles in Africa, during WWII, he was referring to the platoons or battalions or whatever that were stationed there,

Different aesthetics, can't compare.
Japanese anime are commercial products; this one is purely artistic.
It's like you can't compare classical music with pop music because they are two different things and they are for different groups of listeners.
