If the Church of Rome was half as clever as it thinks it is, it would book David for its evangelization... Only problem is David would tell them to fuck off. In a polite way, of course. David is a gentleman.
@Ekensteinen No, it's from their first DVD called 16HP. I have ripped the audio though so you can download it from me through soulseek. Username is Funkloft
@wasabihansen i think its that feel of old folk players plus he probably finds it difficult playing standing. I dont think he would feel right sort of standing like a rock star with his guitar and banjo hanging down over him
I don't think it's Phyllis Ruth. I just listened the song, and it's different. Besides that, I thought that the DVD on which this song is also calls it Phyllis Ann. I would rather think it is an improvisation by DEE, because part of the lyrics remind me of Sparrow Falls from Consider the Birds. In both there's a part about a broken door handle. I think DEE just got inspired, and then sang at so he would not have it forgotten by the end of the concert.
i dont care where his music comes from, i say on this one, the end justifies the means. and even though i agree with u, this almost makes me religious. as far as i know this is the only proof for the judeo christian god. i mean fuck, look at that.
Go to Homespun Music.. they have all the tools and lessons that you will ever need. There you will find the keys to the music easy listening great lessons..By Masters.
He seems lika good christian, not the boy-raping-kind you most hear from.
I agree, it's thank's to him and Johnny Cash that I want to belive. At the moment I really cant belive, not after all the "God bless america, let's bomb the living crap out of people" and "God is forgiving, let's stone the gays".
well spoken, even the dumbest man can find God, why do so mutch tend to believe what sin tells them to. I been there, i know. Pray please. Confess not to man, but to God and he'll heal. But yet i say this stuff and know there is so mutch sin in myself. Better burn me in life then afterwards. we need to come clean asap.
I'm a pure heretic ^^ but I love this song, and I believe that even if all its song speak about his relation with God, they also speak about the devil..and we have all a part of evil inside us. he gets it... thanks David ! ! ! !
David Eugene Edwards is remarkable, a true inspiration for those who seek to hear and play styles threatened to be forgotten. Might anyone know of where I can find banjo tabs for Black Soul Choir?
David (the songer) is a very lerigous man. This song is about us people that we are evil and we are all sinds. That how he thinks about the human. Every song is about the religion
The intensity is all real and honest. This man does not have a pretentious bone in his body. My friends and I finally got meet him ( w/ all the members of WOVEN HAND)in a small Los Angeles bar. After a two song sound check we had full access to photos and repartee. He is warm, receptive and humble. Although DEE is still Denver based, the group is primarily European seen. WOVEN HAND is even more intense that their 16 HP incarnation...look for a new WH live CD coming very soon.

One day I was playing a Breton bagpipes at my niece's fourth birthday and I was sweatin' like ..PINTS of sweat , with bulging eyes and everything .
The people there were cryin' . They whispered "Oh mighty lord , A SAINT ! A SAINT ! Or a Goddess !"
They kneeled down to the ground , raisingg their hands to the sky .
( Apart from that little story : 16 Horsepower sounds AMAZING )

One time, when I was playing a long clawhammer thing at a barbecue in front of a lot of family, I drooled in a way very similar to that.
Maybe because I was really concentrating, or because my face was relaxed. I don't know.
And one sharp wiseguy fellow made a comment that I seemed like the Deliverance kid.

Lupus225, my thoughts exactly, NMA is a different kind of spirituality but intense nonetheless!

Truly one of the best, along with New Model Army's Justin Sullivan.

Guys like him will always make sure there's real music for those who want it. Charisma and soul can't be bought.

It's just a shame his inspiration is religious delusion. That said, who cares, it sounds so good.

I see your point. Music is the closest I've ever been to "spiritual."
It is the only universal language and breaks barriers.
