if i ever become a famous movie producer or whatever im going to make an epic sci fi movie and this song will be used at the credits haha its just so cool, cooler than skyrim.
@OXCerberusX0 That last thing was completely out of left field, but I gotta say... nothing is cooler than Skyrim, not even Devy, and that's coming from a big time fanboy.
@mistaholiday Tremendous tune. Weird thing is that Ginger says he doesn't recall writing any part of this tune but he still got a credit for it. Maybe just for inspiration!
@assmanfromhell9000 he had long hair way back when, but this song and video is actually BEFORE he grew his hair out for his later days with SYL when it got its longest and started to dread. he is bald again now, yes. but this was a previous baldness haha.
Hi everyone, I'm trying to share my band's music with those who are interested. We have a demo available to view on our page and we would really appreciate feedback on it as much as possible. We're a new progressive metal group based in the UK, search for TOMORROW`S REPORT here on youtube or follow this link:
@code507 Devin has an enormous vocal range as well as godlike songwriting. He can growl like he's possessed by the devil but sing clean like an angel. He reminds me of Corey Taylor of SlipKnot and Stone Sour but way better.
Devin is a fantastically gracious and wonderful individual. Just talking to him is an experience. Also, he WILL remember you if you tell him a funny story. I travelled 4 hours to see him last year and I saw him again a few months ago in NY with Bodom and he actually turned around and said to me "Hey dude! How's life? So how many hours did you drive this time [my name]. At least it was more than 19 people this time at the show, eh?" I was SHOCKED and humbled that he remembered me. It was surreal.
@negroacdc : Completely and totally 100% real. I have multiple signed items, pictures and video of it. He's really and genuinely an awesome and accessible guy, as long as you don't act like a fanboy.
@DagonNaxos I already knew this guy is awesome. Just by checking the lyrics and melodies of his songs you can see that he's an ever-evolving human being. A rare creature, that's for sure.
@NickySixThirty Right. But that's all they have in common. For example, one of them is a magician, the other one is a character in a children's book :-)

@DisruptrOGT nah nah. i watched some devin townsend unleashed
changed my perspective on him. he should be rather funny. aparently he always is live. it alternates between obscura and septic, then it's devin opening for COB.
@DMDx666 he will be 39 within a few weeks... baldness is not the best indicator of age, gray hair is even worse - getting gray hair basically means your over 16, i've seen it in 17 year olds, my granny had it at 18 and lived well into her 90s with diabetes... losing hair is another false age indicator, but more accurate than gray hair... andre agassi did the same thing... lost alot on top, still had long hair, then gave up on it all...
I saw him live yesterday night and let me tell you this man is a genius, a great performer and entertainer; on top of that he well understands what having a healthy portion of sense of humor and self-irony is all about. I strongly recommend to anyone to go and see a live gig by Mr. Devin Townsend! Simply amazing.
@alextw13jf couldn't agree more pure genius devin is. I saw him a few weeks ago best show in the world plus meeting him and hanging with the band was fun to.
@alextw13jf So true. Saw him for the first time last. He totally one me over after just a few songs, after which he asked for a show of hands of who in the audience didn't like him (several did), and replied by telling them that he loved them and thanked them for coming. Fucking awesome show, one of the best entertainers I've seen in a long time.
I love blasting this song with the windows down in my car. Normally if it's something abrasive they turn away, but I swear I've seen people pull up near me to get this goodness.
@murtazax thank you, i'm SO tired of all the rap crap being blasted and boomed out of cars, which is virtually all of what you hear as it cheapens the urban landscape with thug fear "music" (lowest common denominator nig expression...
i'd like to hear more mozart blasted out of cars... but this is a rich full dynamic hard rock metal song with beauty, a rarity within that genre... i guess this is the most pop bit of work he has done? or is there something even lighter and melodic in his work?
@glorp896 His Devin Townsend Project first album Ki is very light. Second album Addicted is about as 'pop' and melodic as he's ever been. Absolutely top notch album, perfect for any party! Get it into ye!
@murtazax As a guitar player I can tell you that all modal progressions let you know that God is the creator. Every note in the Lydian mode is something you don't hear very often and it is an exotic and powerful sound. If you don't like that then my rebuttal will be in the Aeolian mode and that will just piss you off. The more I know the more I realize I don't know.
@MikeBsMovies True about the pattern itself but not true in so far as that one difference totally changes the character of every note in the scale. You missed the point which was that all emotions that we have as humans are conveyed in something we didn't invent but we understand and that is music. One more reason to believe in God.
@fishguru73 ... naaaaw if I improvise with a Lydian it just sounds a liiiiiittle stranger than the major scale. cause I sure as hell ain't hitting that tritone the whole fuckin time. really depends on the musical context as well. That being said, a fucked up musical context can make even an Ionian mode sound really fucky.
aw man... you're a religious man. dammit. I'mma go away... unless you want to debate in which case I will happily oblige. shit's fun.
@MikeBsMovies Strange? I think the lydian mode sounds beautiful and exotic. So far as debating goes, I can believe what I want to and so can you. The difference is that what I know can save your soul and what you think you know will put you into a place you don't think is real. Nobody on a plane that is going down is an atheist. Cute little condescension is a sign of immaturity. What will happen to you when you die? If we are worm dirt and nothing more, why even care enough to say anything?
@fishguru73 ... but I believe in nothing... that's kind of the point of atheism. All I "think I know" is that I don't know. Seriously, people don't know everything so they should stop making shit up and just leave what mankind doesn't know as... well, unknown. So shut it and enjoy the ride, because life is awesome.
@MikeBsMovies If you believe in nothing then why are you trying to persuade me? Look man, if you think everything you see around you is an accident then you have more faith then I do. Why even bother with commentary? Get it on and do whatever you want to because there is no right or wrong and there sure isn't a God or time for you to care for anyone but yourself. After all, you are just fertilizer and your thoughts are worthless.
@fishguru73 Really I just like debating. it's fun.
... I don't think I said I think everything I see around me is an accident... I just don't have an answer for it at all! and I don't think I should have one, because there isn't one yet.
@MikeBsMovies Your quite a sad person really, i would say i feel sorry for someone like you, but i actually don't coz your a keyboard warrior, Well done (Y)
@xxxxBartonxxxx Really? Cause I would say the same shit to him in real life. I ain't lying either, I remember this one time during the school year that the university Mormon club or whatever it was set up a booth in the hallway. Me n' my friend just went up to em' and straight up told em' this: " Excuse me! On behalf of those of us who believe in the separation of church and state, or in this case public education, we'd like to tell you to fuck off!"
@Codyliscious Yes I know he's bald now and doing DTP (going to see them tonight). But he was bald before he had the skullet aswell. He was Bald > Little bit of hair > Skullet > Bald.
@calshread he needed to be more marketable? look more like michael stipe and lean toward that more popular kind of music? the real hard stuff doesn't sell that great, very few exceptions... i wouldn't blame him for selling out, this is a step in the right direction musically as far as i'm concerned - STRAPPING was just too much heavy macho bravado for me...
@glorp896 'Macho bravado' I'll be honest, that's not how a fan of Stapping' see's them. Not having a go - just seems a strange conclution that you've come to.
@CyanideSovereign ok, lets say not so melodic, more yelling and something a brutish caveman would be more likely to make as music than this more pop like music... straping: its not nice music... lets face it, women are more beautiful and have more beautiful voices... and many of these metal bands make no attempt at trying to sing with even an iota of pleasantness - most likely because they can't - devin can and make the difference here...
@glorp896 "many of these metal bands make no attempt at trying to sing with even an iota of pleasantness"
Thats simply because they are trying to convey something that isn't pleasent. Devin made Strapping Young Lad because he hated the music industry. Anaal Nathrakh is the heaviest band I know; the band members were trying to create 'the sound track to the apocalypse' and you can't do that sounding pretty.
@CyanideSovereign does it get more heavy than More Fire Than Blood? - yet they do have a melodic reprieve, dimmu borgir does this as well... but with better melodic nice sounding section... i just like that the vocals are so covered up in this song during the screaming stuff, which even so isn't this guttural scratchy crap i'm complaining to you about... i'd rather have this song to try to comprehend as the WALL OF RAPID SOUND it is, than to deal with HATEBREED styled "singing" (yelling)...
@CyanideSovereign hatebreed is pretty childish, i'm surprised they used their vocalist for the headbangers ball interviewer for so long - someone with more depth and IQ would have been nice...
yes, savage metal, good new phrase for a genre that rises up (or down?) to that level...
i avoid live as much as possible, recorded on CD, vinyl, tape (don't forget 8 TRACK!), etc... and with these guys its even worse... and this one had a nice easy slow start, not so savage for a awhile...
@CyanideSovereign god, i'd have to agree! - ANAAL is the heaviest i've heard... damn!
Cannibal Corpse, they do that crappy vocal stuff i don't like... sure, a little, but song after song, the whole song? ... maybe as comedy making fun of it, now that might work? Weird Al up to it?
Napalm Death - more crappy singing...
- i guess with a drop in hormones over time i don't crave any of this kind of music as much... but i'll go for an MDC revival
u mean this vid?: "TesseracT - Concealing Fate Part 1"
didn't expect that transition, i thought you were off topic there...
Sikth -Bland Street Bloom - even greater contrast from pretty singing to heavy duty... jolly good and deep deep bass, but that screaming stuff? ooo, screaming mixed in with nice pretty vocals, neato... still too much screamy stuff for me... how about a real heavy but very melodic one by LACUNA COIL (OUR TRUTH)
@mattguitarz now wouldn't you rather go to a heavy metal show with a pretty melodic girly singer than a rager screamer yeller guy? god, i would...very nice looking italia cristina scabbia... no accounting for the last name!
@mattguitarz alright, maybe not heavy enough, less than lacuna coil's OUR TRUTH and more of a pop version, but still girly pretty singing with some heavy stuff, barely:
Evanescence - Going Under --- with a bit of horror and nightmare mixed in for the lead singer...
@glorp896 You obviously know nothing of the genre. Metal and Hard Rock are both fueled by powerful expression, most commonly anger. This is why bands may growl, grunt, squeal, scream, etc. They aren't trying to look pretty and act fake. They are trying to be real and voice there opinions, unlike the pop music you defend which, most of the time, isn't written by the arist any more. How are you going to bash a genre of music for vocals when in pop music, most of it is autotuned or lipsynced?
@glorp896 That's all you can say? That I am incorrect? DO a little research man or look at some of the booklets inside the pop albums. None of the songs any more are written by the artist themselves any more. You don't hear about Katy Perry or Beyonce the singer songwriter. That ended years ago in the pop world. Also, how can you deny lipsyncing and autotune when so many artists either sound like shit without autotune live, or the other way around, where they lipsync with the album recording?
@ConstantInsanity i'm sure you are correct about some of the corporate pre-fab pop types... marketed for maximum lowest common denominator acceptability...
@Constant i spent many hours reading about rock - MAXIMUM ROCK AND ROLL, many other mags, etc... collected and traded several hundred/1000 albums since the 70s... largely gave up on rock sometime in the 90s... i let the music come to me now... other more important pass times have come my way... i defend SOME pop music, but i can never defend being yelled at so much... i grow tired of that quite quickly. may you enjoy all the growls, grunts, squeals and screams you want - but that guttural crap?
@glorp896 You just don't understand the art form. Do you know how much work it takes to be able to scream and sing like that without ruining your vocal chords or screwing up your throat and then be able to sing perfectly fine afterwords??? I agree that not all music can be defended, that goes for any genre and sub genre, but I can tell you one thing. I would much rather listen to these unique and talented musicians who most people see as "just screaming" than your generic talentless pop.
@ConstantInsanity oh of course not, i don't call myself an artist for nothing... oh great question... like i care... my generic talentless pop? how about BARBIE GIRL by aqua - i think that one's pretty fucking awesome, or how about Lily Allen's THE FEAR, now thats a pretty cool one, but i wouldn't trade these for "DUALITY" by SLIPKNOT - or how about some comedy metal masterpieces, GWAR'S "gor gor" - i've seen slayer, metallica, motorhead, many punk shows, etc... how about u?
@Constant but as to metal and my prefered crooner nice melodic singer stuff, glen danzig is quite good and for a real unexpected dose of metal diversity KATON DEPENA of HIRAX! quite good singer! sure, some barking dog hetfield is fine but that throat thing, gutteral... perfectly fine afterwords? i guess that REALLY is a talent! (Hatebreed - I Will Be Heard): an example of that yelling crap i get tired of quick... (Hatebreed - This Is Now) at least with this one is good AT FIRST, no yelling
@ConstantInsanity Between Shit And Piss We Are Born, now that has some screaming i dont like too much, but also some singing... what is this, 64/64 time? god, i'd hate to have to read this music sheet and play it! ouch, can't be done on the piano!... this really is too fast and fused to be heard well enough... like hearing a MG-42 shoot, you can hear the separate shots fired if fired slow enough or one long paper shredding rip single sound, thats too much the effect here i think... a challenge
@tjbay1376 Too right, 'Periphery' and 'Animals as Leaders' are tech metal masters, rhythmically superior to anything else i've heard...SikTh were equally awe inspiring.
@PHYSCO331 IMO, because so much of the popular stuff is vacuous, derivative, by-numbers, easy-listening garbage, that people come to assume that *anything* popular must automatically be bad. That's my best guess.:-)
I don´t know why Gojira and Meshuggah are mentioned in so many comments (didn´t read them all), but last summer I was lucky to see Devin live at a festival, performing one day after Gojira and one day before Messhugah.. Devin had definitively the biggest aura of awesomeness amongst them all. Though I loved others too. His performance was truly epic..as soon as he brought his fingers to guitar strings, a total downpour came from the sky, in the end we were all wet and happy. :D
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Man this guy is overrated, he's like the modern metal wannabe Zappa for kids with no sense of musical history... well, one of them, there's also Buckethead.
@KingCrimson776 maybe so, but he's very underated i think. listen to this, then listen to strapping young lad, and then to the song Ki by Devin Townsend project. u will see what a creative and diverse musician Devin is. u have hard rock, extreme metal and then mellow, magic mushroom shit. honestly, u will eat ur words once you listen to this guys work more. he definetely deserved more recongnition and fame cos he deserves it unlike all these talentless retarded popstars nowadays.
@nadman14 Everything you named is exactly my point, he's one of these modern guys who tries to be so diverse but ends up with a mix of pale imitations. I'd love to be proven wrong but as I search through modern music I just find more and more that almost no one is inspired anymore.
@KingCrimson776 well whatever rocks ur boat but tbh i dont know how u can appreciate any type of musician if u fail to notice the creative genius of Devin Townsend. and to say that he has no sense of musical history is just plain stupid im sorry to say. his influences include the great Frank Zappa, Judas Priest, ABBA, broadway musicals, Morbid Angel, for fucks sake he's even influenced by composers such as Igor Stravinsky. u may not like it , but ffs show some appreciation. this guy is a genius.
@nadman14 I didn't say that he has no sense of musical history, just that his fans and fans of this type of music generally don't. The fact that the idea of someone mashing up Zappa, Morbid Angel and broadway is taken seriously is a sign of how depraved modern music is.
I don't understand this man, or why he is being hailed as a genius. I've heard this kind of music before. It's not even that good. Just another rock composer..
He's no Fripp, Waters, Barret, Gilmour, Zappa, Lennon, McCartney, Hendrix, Benson, Davis, or Mozart.
The term 'genius' gets thrown around alot these days.

@karlstade He is younger in this vid. This song is ancient.

@alextw13jf Was it with children of bodom and obscura?
JEDIMASTERZAK 7 months ago
@JEDIMASTERZAK no, it was a gig on his own in Milan with Aon Zen (great band too) opening the show.

@alextw13jf I would be - but he is no longer coming to Halifax :-(

@alextw13jf couldn't agree more pure genius devin is. I saw him a few weeks ago best show in the world plus meeting him and hanging with the band was fun to.

@alextw13jf So true. Saw him for the first time last. He totally one me over after just a few songs, after which he asked for a show of hands of who in the audience didn't like him (several did), and replied by telling them that he loved them and thanked them for coming. Fucking awesome show, one of the best entertainers I've seen in a long time.

Yeah used to love Blasting this out the window whilst flogging the hell out of Dad's V8 when I was young XD

@murtazax thank you, i'm SO tired of all the rap crap being blasted and boomed out of cars, which is virtually all of what you hear as it cheapens the urban landscape with thug fear "music" (lowest common denominator nig expression...
i'd like to hear more mozart blasted out of cars... but this is a rich full dynamic hard rock metal song with beauty, a rarity within that genre... i guess this is the most pop bit of work he has done? or is there something even lighter and melodic in his work?

shrewmole2002 7 months ago
@murtazax As a guitar player I can tell you that all modal progressions let you know that God is the creator. Every note in the Lydian mode is something you don't hear very often and it is an exotic and powerful sound. If you don't like that then my rebuttal will be in the Aeolian mode and that will just piss you off. The more I know the more I realize I don't know.
fishguru73 7 months ago
@fishguru73 really? cause the only difference in the lydian mode from a major scale is a #4. I'm pretty sure I hear all that shit very often.
whole tone scale is a different story
MikeBsMovies 6 months ago
@MikeBsMovies True about the pattern itself but not true in so far as that one difference totally changes the character of every note in the scale. You missed the point which was that all emotions that we have as humans are conveyed in something we didn't invent but we understand and that is music. One more reason to believe in God.
fishguru73 6 months ago
@fishguru73 ... naaaaw if I improvise with a Lydian it just sounds a liiiiiittle stranger than the major scale. cause I sure as hell ain't hitting that tritone the whole fuckin time. really depends on the musical context as well. That being said, a fucked up musical context can make even an Ionian mode sound really fucky.
aw man... you're a religious man. dammit. I'mma go away... unless you want to debate in which case I will happily oblige. shit's fun.
MikeBsMovies 6 months ago
@MikeBsMovies Strange? I think the lydian mode sounds beautiful and exotic. So far as debating goes, I can believe what I want to and so can you. The difference is that what I know can save your soul and what you think you know will put you into a place you don't think is real. Nobody on a plane that is going down is an atheist. Cute little condescension is a sign of immaturity. What will happen to you when you die? If we are worm dirt and nothing more, why even care enough to say anything?
fishguru73 6 months ago
@fishguru73 ... but I believe in nothing... that's kind of the point of atheism. All I "think I know" is that I don't know. Seriously, people don't know everything so they should stop making shit up and just leave what mankind doesn't know as... well, unknown. So shut it and enjoy the ride, because life is awesome.
fuck this is fun
now to troll all my religious friends
MikeBsMovies 6 months ago
@MikeBsMovies If you believe in nothing then why are you trying to persuade me? Look man, if you think everything you see around you is an accident then you have more faith then I do. Why even bother with commentary? Get it on and do whatever you want to because there is no right or wrong and there sure isn't a God or time for you to care for anyone but yourself. After all, you are just fertilizer and your thoughts are worthless.
fishguru73 6 months ago
@fishguru73 Really I just like debating. it's fun.
... I don't think I said I think everything I see around me is an accident... I just don't have an answer for it at all! and I don't think I should have one, because there isn't one yet.
... oh, dude's getting touchy now. Iwin

@calshread he needed to be more marketable? look more like michael stipe and lean toward that more popular kind of music? the real hard stuff doesn't sell that great, very few exceptions... i wouldn't blame him for selling out, this is a step in the right direction musically as far as i'm concerned - STRAPPING was just too much heavy macho bravado for me...
glorp896 9 months ago
@glorp896 'Macho bravado' I'll be honest, that's not how a fan of Stapping' see's them. Not having a go - just seems a strange conclution that you've come to.
CyanideSovereign 9 months ago
@CyanideSovereign ok, lets say not so melodic, more yelling and something a brutish caveman would be more likely to make as music than this more pop like music... straping: its not nice music... lets face it, women are more beautiful and have more beautiful voices... and many of these metal bands make no attempt at trying to sing with even an iota of pleasantness - most likely because they can't - devin can and make the difference here...
glorp896 9 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@glorp896 "many of these metal bands make no attempt at trying to sing with even an iota of pleasantness"
CyanideSovereign 9 months ago
@CyanideSovereign does it get more heavy than More Fire Than Blood? - yet they do have a melodic reprieve, dimmu borgir does this as well... but with better melodic nice sounding section... i just like that the vocals are so covered up in this song during the screaming stuff, which even so isn't this guttural scratchy crap i'm complaining to you about... i'd rather have this song to try to comprehend as the WALL OF RAPID SOUND it is, than to deal with HATEBREED styled "singing" (yelling)...
glorp896 7 months ago
@glorp896 Lol 'hatebreed' I used to like them when I was 12 or 10...
And I don't think 'heavy is the right word for Anaal Nathrakh, I prefer 'savagery'.
watch?v=a9e0-h1fFJA
CyanideSovereign 7 months ago
@CyanideSovereign hatebreed is pretty childish, i'm surprised they used their vocalist for the headbangers ball interviewer for so long - someone with more depth and IQ would have been nice...
yes, savage metal, good new phrase for a genre that rises up (or down?) to that level...
i avoid live as much as possible, recorded on CD, vinyl, tape (don't forget 8 TRACK!), etc... and with these guys its even worse... and this one had a nice easy slow start, not so savage for a awhile...
glorp896 7 months ago
@CyanideSovereign god, i'd have to agree! - ANAAL is the heaviest i've heard... damn!
Cannibal Corpse, they do that crappy vocal stuff i don't like... sure, a little, but song after song, the whole song? ... maybe as comedy making fun of it, now that might work? Weird Al up to it?
Napalm Death - more crappy singing...
- i guess with a drop in hormones over time i don't crave any of this kind of music as much... but i'll go for an MDC revival
Benighted - "Collapse" - more crappy singing...

u mean this vid?: "TesseracT - Concealing Fate Part 1"
didn't expect that transition, i thought you were off topic there...
Sikth -Bland Street Bloom - even greater contrast from pretty singing to heavy duty... jolly good and deep deep bass, but that screaming stuff? ooo, screaming mixed in with nice pretty vocals, neato... still too much screamy stuff for me... how about a real heavy but very melodic one by LACUNA COIL (OUR TRUTH)
glorp896 7 months ago
@mattguitarz now wouldn't you rather go to a heavy metal show with a pretty melodic girly singer than a rager screamer yeller guy? god, i would...very nice looking italia cristina scabbia... no accounting for the last name!
glorp896 7 months ago
@mattguitarz alright, maybe not heavy enough, less than lacuna coil's OUR TRUTH and more of a pop version, but still girly pretty singing with some heavy stuff, barely:
Evanescence - Going Under --- with a bit of horror and nightmare mixed in for the lead singer...
glorp896 7 months ago
@glorp896 You obviously know nothing of the genre. Metal and Hard Rock are both fueled by powerful expression, most commonly anger. This is why bands may growl, grunt, squeal, scream, etc. They aren't trying to look pretty and act fake. They are trying to be real and voice there opinions, unlike the pop music you defend which, most of the time, isn't written by the arist any more. How are you going to bash a genre of music for vocals when in pop music, most of it is autotuned or lipsynced?
ConstantInsanity 8 months ago
@ConstantInsanity assumptions abound, you are incorrect
glorp896 8 months ago
@glorp896 That's all you can say? That I am incorrect? DO a little research man or look at some of the booklets inside the pop albums. None of the songs any more are written by the artist themselves any more. You don't hear about Katy Perry or Beyonce the singer songwriter. That ended years ago in the pop world. Also, how can you deny lipsyncing and autotune when so many artists either sound like shit without autotune live, or the other way around, where they lipsync with the album recording?
ConstantInsanity 8 months ago
@ConstantInsanity i'm sure you are correct about some of the corporate pre-fab pop types... marketed for maximum lowest common denominator acceptability...
glorp896 8 months ago
@Constant i spent many hours reading about rock - MAXIMUM ROCK AND ROLL, many other mags, etc... collected and traded several hundred/1000 albums since the 70s... largely gave up on rock sometime in the 90s... i let the music come to me now... other more important pass times have come my way... i defend SOME pop music, but i can never defend being yelled at so much... i grow tired of that quite quickly. may you enjoy all the growls, grunts, squeals and screams you want - but that guttural crap?
glorp896 8 months ago
@glorp896 You just don't understand the art form. Do you know how much work it takes to be able to scream and sing like that without ruining your vocal chords or screwing up your throat and then be able to sing perfectly fine afterwords??? I agree that not all music can be defended, that goes for any genre and sub genre, but I can tell you one thing. I would much rather listen to these unique and talented musicians who most people see as "just screaming" than your generic talentless pop.
ConstantInsanity 8 months ago
@ConstantInsanity oh of course not, i don't call myself an artist for nothing... oh great question... like i care... my generic talentless pop? how about BARBIE GIRL by aqua - i think that one's pretty fucking awesome, or how about Lily Allen's THE FEAR, now thats a pretty cool one, but i wouldn't trade these for "DUALITY" by SLIPKNOT - or how about some comedy metal masterpieces, GWAR'S "gor gor" - i've seen slayer, metallica, motorhead, many punk shows, etc... how about u?
glorp896 8 months ago
@Constant but as to metal and my prefered crooner nice melodic singer stuff, glen danzig is quite good and for a real unexpected dose of metal diversity KATON DEPENA of HIRAX! quite good singer! sure, some barking dog hetfield is fine but that throat thing, gutteral... perfectly fine afterwords? i guess that REALLY is a talent! (Hatebreed - I Will Be Heard): an example of that yelling crap i get tired of quick... (Hatebreed - This Is Now) at least with this one is good AT FIRST, no yelling
glorp896 8 months ago
@ConstantInsanity Between Shit And Piss We Are Born, now that has some screaming i dont like too much, but also some singing... what is this, 64/64 time? god, i'd hate to have to read this music sheet and play it! ouch, can't be done on the piano!... this really is too fast and fused to be heard well enough... like hearing a MG-42 shoot, you can hear the separate shots fired if fired slow enough or one long paper shredding rip single sound, thats too much the effect here i think... a challenge
glorp896 7 months ago
@tjbay1376 Too right, 'Periphery' and 'Animals as Leaders' are tech metal masters, rhythmically superior to anything else i've heard...SikTh were equally awe inspiring.

Why is it every time music is awful it's "musical and genius" but when it's good it's frowned upon by people looking so desperately to be different?
PHYSCO331 11 months ago

Man this guy is overrated, he's like the modern metal wannabe Zappa for kids with no sense of musical history... well, one of them, there's also Buckethead.
KingCrimson776 1 year ago
@KingCrimson776 maybe so, but he's very underated i think. listen to this, then listen to strapping young lad, and then to the song Ki by Devin Townsend project. u will see what a creative and diverse musician Devin is. u have hard rock, extreme metal and then mellow, magic mushroom shit. honestly, u will eat ur words once you listen to this guys work more. he definetely deserved more recongnition and fame cos he deserves it unlike all these talentless retarded popstars nowadays.
nadman14 1 year ago
@nadman14 Everything you named is exactly my point, he's one of these modern guys who tries to be so diverse but ends up with a mix of pale imitations. I'd love to be proven wrong but as I search through modern music I just find more and more that almost no one is inspired anymore.
KingCrimson776 1 year ago
@KingCrimson776 well whatever rocks ur boat but tbh i dont know how u can appreciate any type of musician if u fail to notice the creative genius of Devin Townsend. and to say that he has no sense of musical history is just plain stupid im sorry to say. his influences include the great Frank Zappa, Judas Priest, ABBA, broadway musicals, Morbid Angel, for fucks sake he's even influenced by composers such as Igor Stravinsky. u may not like it , but ffs show some appreciation. this guy is a genius.
nadman14 1 year ago
@nadman14 I didn't say that he has no sense of musical history, just that his fans and fans of this type of music generally don't. The fact that the idea of someone mashing up Zappa, Morbid Angel and broadway is taken seriously is a sign of how depraved modern music is.
KingCrimson776 1 year ago
@KingCrimson776 I agree with everything that you've said.
