If you read Pepsi Book (Cola Wars), you`ll notice that the first idea was think of a guy whose girlfriend leaves (stands up)... That`s the point: Pepsi saw the change of Coke formula as admiting defeat.
So, the girl says "Coke stood me up", something Pepsi would never do.
@52DODGEM37 That`s ok, cougars are the thing nowadays! Care to ensure she ain't a gold digger 'cause chances are she could be a street sweeper now! -daz in oz
Seems low-budget by 1985 standards for a major company. The "rushed" nature of the commercial seems to fit with the story given by another people who commented on this video.
According to Roger Enrico, the then prez of Pepsi's US division, this commercial was written up in a matter of minutes and the ad agency was ordered to find someone who looked like "the girl next door" -- and it aired within five days of the New Coke annoucement. This was clearly the "blue state" ad. Along with the "Wilbur" ad (aimed at "red states") the goal was for people to think twice about New Coke before it went national and it worked. Where this actress is now -- I'd like to know!
is this Kim Richards?

@2braindamage Yeah, I believe this is Kim Richards. Guess her career with Disney pictures fizzled out. Oh, and the narrator is totally Martin Sheen!
