I was right in the middle of giving a speech for class and then BOOM! My mind just goes completely blank and I stopped mid-sentence. Everyone started whispering and laughing at me. I came out of it and saw everyone's faces. I started crying and left the room.
I remembered I had absence seizure just like this one. But I were in classroom and doing classwork and all suddenly I got confuse and I looked around and I don't remember where I am it last few min and my memory returned normally. Then three year ago I had absence seizure it was on hot day and I were argue with somebody and had absence seizure. In my life I only had three of them but mostly Clonic Tran seizure. I never knew about absence seizure until I saw this.
Cracks me up every time... but, seriously, going through school with undetectable absences is lame. Had my first tonic-clonic in 7th grade; dealt with that until absences became noticeable at 16, by which point I was already given a Resource Room period, with ACTUAL slow kids. About a year after high school, a doctor basically told us 'oops, you've probably been having tiny rapid-fire absences since kindergarten.' Oh, and it's all thanks to Agent Orange. I wanted to be an astronomer.
Too bad my classmates weren't adept at the art of detecting seizures. Epilepsy runs string on my mother's side of the family. In a way, my brother with his grand mal seizures was far luckier than I was. There was no and, if, buts or maybes that he was having seizures. Me on the other hand, why I just couldn't pay attention in class, I'd also interrupt the class with odd lip smacking and clucking noises.
this happened to me at school with my teachers all the time!!!!! it was so maddening!!!! i wish i had a peer sitting next to me to tell the teacher what was happening. because i always had to apologize for not paying attention....even got detention for it! and i had no idea why!!!! i love this video!!!!! <3
I tend to do this a lot both now and growing up and until now i did not know it was a problem. growing up teachers thought i was just being a problem child and "day dreaming" although it does help me make sense of the doctor who took a MRI of me and asked if i had a history of seizures. until now i thought he didn't know what he was talking about.. often i have on sun glasses so people are not scared when i seem to stare with lifeless eyes at them.
This is hilarous, and cute. Teacher was schooled by a little boy, Win. Also i have absence seizures, complex partial, im 20 and it still happens regularly. so yeah.
My son suffered from CAE starting at age 7. Sometimes more than a dozen "Space outs" a day last ing for a few seconds. Barely noticeable if you are not familiar with them. He is now 11 and hasn't had a seizure in months. They started tapering off after his 11th birthday. Keep heart all parents who have a child with this condition. Some kids do grow out of it.
i have the exact same thing. You black out, usually if your brain is excited of some sort: new present, sport, or even like that when people call on you. Nobody realizes when i have mine, and when somebody talks to me they think im ignoring and being rude.
I have epilepsy, since I was 3 I'm 19 now, still on meds. its not fun to have a seizure, having it, I only have black outs during the seizure and I don't see, or feel anything, but walking up after is the worse part. you feel all, tired from the shaking, your bones hurt. confused. its not fun at all. I had two this year already, I'm getting better, now. it takes me a couple of minutes to hour to recover. my mom told me when I was little took me 3 days to recover. I'm glad that girl was ok.
I use to have these when I was younger..although undiagnosed I was called by the other classmates "Staring Hyena" I would out of the blue just stare out eyes glossed over, I wouldn't realize until I came out of it and I just felt like a loss of time a bit..not being able to recall what i was thinking about . My friends would tell me what I looked like. They then started calling me Staring Hyena. It would only last a few seconds
i was born with seizures and its scary, i grew out of them though i watched my brother have one and he wouldnt snap out of it, i cried watching him have one
I had one of my seizures (absence) in class and it lasted for about 5 mins and my teacher was shouting at me (my best friend told me this) and she was telling me to get out of her class and my best friend kept telling her i was having a seizure but she said i was just doing this to avoid the question then once i came out it she told me to go to the headteacher but my teacher got shouted at instead o me! lol
that little boy is an AWESOME actor! lol and he only had 1 line. I hope he got more work than just that. Did you see the genuine concern in his expression?
The little boy could have known because he could have had a family member or close friend from outside of school who has the same symptoms as the little girl. Kids aren't as dumb as adults think they are.
thats kinda what its like, only without the stupid sounds, all i hear is the melding together of the noises around me with my ears ringing. then i come back and i completely forget what the hell i was doing
I'm 31 and I still get these occasionally. They were made worse by an antidepressant (which I obviously no longer take). My last one was Dec 14, 2006, scared the crap out of my best friend.
@ScorpioCookies this is an educational video. maybe the boy depicted is meant to be an example of a good student, has been properly educated and is comfortable with the situation and knows the classmate . i encourage you to have some compassion and educate yourselves.
@ScorpioCookies I know you're getting a lot of stick for your comment but I will have to agree with you to a point, but its just showing us how easy it is to mistake a seizure as a simple 'daydream'. This clip is a bad example as teachers are told about this condition these days if there is someone in the class who suffers epilepsy.
i suffer with non epileptic seizures and absence seizures it isnt funny................................. the music was freaky and the acting was very O.T.T but i know what its like and you remember literally nothing about you freezing up as i call my seizures freezing fits.
It's 'scare-mongering' videos like these that made me not want to tell my friends when I got diagnosed with ab. seizures at 11. I know the video means well, but they made the little girl seem as if she's completely special and has something dangerous and scary all thanks to the music and crass acting.

That kid is smarter than the teacher. He SERIOUSLY needs to learn how to see if someone is having a seizure.

I bet a lot of kids were punished for "spacing out" when they were having absence seizures. Adults need to find out the truth before judging.
