I bought the kit recently, sometimes I have it right and the cable works flawlessly, but more often then not, once I screw the cap on, there is a connection (short?) between the tip and sleeve (checked with a multitester for continuity). Any tricks on getting it done right? Often, if I leave the caps off and test for continuity, it seems fine, but as soon as I screw the caps on there is a short.
I love my retro coil so much that I bought the pedal board kit...First time of using the tool broke.I'm neither heavy handed nor an idiot and although the cable (and especially the plugs) are great it's no fun to make up.
Gold is technically a slightly better conductor than nickel - and this can make the sound just a little better. The difference is mostly just asthetic though....
Hell ya! A stripper for my cables!

“Thanks again for your wonderful and revolutionary product !
As I said before, I've tried all other brands but 'Lava Rocks' them all away....
Thank you again for coming up with the ultimate 1/4" solderless solution around, PERIOD ! !..”
