They just used inspiration from a few games, not just Ikaruga, to cook up something decent that hopefully is fun to play.

Not as if there are ANY games out there that completely reinvent the hot water, they just used the colour-idea from Ikaruga instead of 'yeah, let us make a game where you carry a gun and hide behind chest-high walls'.

I assume you're talking about the "balance of order and chaos" thing. That's been a common set-up in fiction since people first started writing fiction.  And if the fundemental gameplay is totally different, how is it a rip-off?

@Sedruk3 I ment the switching back and forth from blue to red. While you're blue you absorb blue shots, while you're red you absorb red shots. It was done in Ikaruga and the entire gameplay was built around this concept of switching colors. And it just seemed to me that this game is built around the same idea. So even if it's not an intentional rip-off, it's still not an original or inovative idea for a game anymore. Just Ikaruga as a platformer, with fancy art style.

I just played the demo. It's a platformer, yes, we know. Why say it like it's a curse? It's a really fun and precise platformer, with fun combat, and the defend against this and you can attack the opposite, defend against this and you can attack the first thing. And yes, it has an awesome art style. Why is that a bad thing? From the tone of your comment, you seem to be very bitter that this relatively under-used feature is being used. Don't be.

@00hammad: keep in mind that Housemarque has a long story;they are the fusion of two other softhouses whcich were born during the Amiga days - namely Bloodhouse (the makers of the original Super Stardust) and Terramarque (known for a mediocre beat em up called Elfmania).

That said,it's good that they still do 2D games,especially when they are this good.Outland is simply outstanding.

@game: I hope there's more work on the bullet patterns and stage designs (and no memorization-intensive Ikaruga enemy chaining, of course), at least this looks more interesting than average 3D mainstream games.
