  • Check me out

  • i figured out how to do it when i was trying to immitate katelepsy and i just realised the same thing you did and that is its a vocal fry.

  • @prankstar2000 It's absolutely not a vocal fry. Fry is generally harmless (and kinda useless in my personal opinion) and can neither create a guttural sound nor a powerful sound.

  • Check my vocals out on my channel

  • Wow I think I have some potential for this.... First time i try and it sounds decent. Only thing is that the throat rashes/burns as shit, is this something that goes away with practice?

  • @AreYouAWizzarD Many people say if it hurts you should stop and when the pain stops try again.Your voice should get used to it.My throat never hurt me from these vocals, but i dunno.

  • i can gurgle very quiet cause i really dont get the air thing after months xD

  • i still cant do it, ive tried so much but it i can't seem to push so much air so any1 can hear it, its like at a whispering volume =/

  • Is it supposed to burn my throat?

  • @MissTheDisaster It did for me for a while, until I refined my technique to perfection. Takes time, practice, tons of breaks(!!) and dedication. And yeah - I don't even recommend using this technique, because I don't trust it to be safe.

  • i sound like my tractor having engine failure

  • i experienced that there is nothing in me that can create gutteral noises, i just cant push my voice to that sound it always sounds "flat" and low, no matter how powerful or loud, i guess some just cant do it

  • Haha 1:34 "this is going to sound weird but..." Yes, it does sound weird XD

  • Shit man I know exactly how it is I've tried teaching people gutturals and all that and there's no easy way to explain it. It's more or less just somerging you fuck with and practice until you finally get it down.

  • I miss the accent :/

  • @StoneFreax O shit, my accent is gone! Wait - how much of my accent is left now? Like, if you look at the newest Half-Life 2 vids?

  • @Blixish almost nothing. Despite some little vocabulary mistakes, I would never think anything but that you are english!^^

  • Have a couple drinks before this? I dunno.. It just seems like how I am after 9-10 shots lol. Anyways, I've been loving your tutorials, and great job as always.

  • Is your throat supposed to hurt a little or am I doing it wrong?

  • @MetallHead9 Thats normal.

  • I can do slam vocals but they sound terrible. kind of like a toilet seat

  • Man awesome stuff you have here!

btw hows the septum ring when you have flu? :D

  • It's definitly harder than normal gowls. I have been doing regular death metal whatever vocals for years, and was put off of trying slam lows because that whole technique puts way too much strain on my throat, and was led to think I was doing it wrong, but I have watched a few videos and have found it was the right way.

Just sucks it's going to take time to get my throat used to it, like learning vocals all over again.

Thanks for the video man, good tutorial.

  • thank for the advice mate. i do have a question...i find that when i try to do the pee wee herman or even trying to practice the grunts, that my throat or adams apple drops. it doesnt hurt but at times it is slightly uncomfortable. is it supposed to be lowered like that?

  • how do you blow your nose with a nose ring? :33

  • @ProPipesCodClan i have my septum pierced too. You just blow it. Sometimes it gets real nasty though if you have a lot of snot. Such as in the winter time, when you get a running nose. lol XD

  • @micah693 lol i've never known

  • Is it normal that i find it much easier doing the vocals while sitting down? =p

  • Can u pig squeal like this?

  • @Undeadsg Easily.

  • You kick ass

  • How the hell do you add the power to it!?

  • @meryuin By being louder. Just like how a yell is louder and more powerful than talking voice. :P

  • @Blixish I love how the answer to this is so simple. yet so hard to understand for most.

    you're amazing!

  • when i do mine i put my tounge really far back and keep a bitt of saliva in my throat

helps to get that gurgle sound

  • come on guys this guy knows what he is talking about. its not hard and only with practice will you find what your voice is capable of. stay brootal blixish.

  • @travonepleasant Cheers! :D

  • so, if you could explain one thing for me. its a low ass sound, but your pinching the top of the vocal chords correct. so do you feel the sound coming from the middle of your throat or are you dropping it lower once its pinched. if that makes any sense.

  • @WhiteRastaPatriot Anatomically speaking, it doesn't make sense. There is nothing below the vocal cords that can make sound. (Correct me if I'm wrong though, I've only studied this on the internet.)

I make the sound with my voice, hence the sound comes from the vocal cords.

  • @Blixish

    yes,

i meant, when you do the peewee sound, its higher up in the chords. correct? are you keeping the air flow out in the same pitch as the peewee sound - or do you yourself pitch it lower once the gurgle has started.

hard to explain what i mean. like fry actually. when i go high, i pitch high. using the upper part of the chords. low being lower in the throat. thats what i mean. am i going to peewee laugh, then slowly work it lower in my chords?

  • @WhiteRastaPatriot The vocal cords are level. There are no up or down there, so I don't really get what you mean. :/ Once I get the distortion, I pitch it down (like pitching down a clean sound).

  • @Blixish

thats what i meant. thank you.

  • @Blixish

thats what i mean. haha. i know they are level. and one piece. but if i want a high, i go higher in my voice. right? yes. up.

thats how i personally keep my throat solid. if im going high im screaming out my nose, and if im going low i scream out my jaw.

    thanks

  • my vocals sound good with this technique but there not really loud what do I do?

  • @metallegion501 Mine aren't really loud either when I do this. I mean, they are way louder than talking voice, but a lot more silent than false cord. :P

  • there are far from enough ppl getting on the tubes explaining this shit in there own words. thanks man! seriously. i want to be able to add this to my screaming arsenal so bad its insane. this vids by far the best. your a professional. thats respectable. thanks for setting my slow ass in the right direction!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! SORRY, THE SLWO DOWN GROWL WAS FUNNY AS FUCK XD still, i wish i could do it :P

  • it sounds about right but my throat hurts

  • @JuanofArk Yeah, this is really difficult to get down properly. Sorry I can't be of more help. :/

  • These are like the only metal vocals I can actually do well since i've been doing them for like 5 years.

I cannot get down metalcore or deathcore vocals at all...I have barely attempted black metal.

  • "I don't even know how I figured it out" so naturally the 1st thing you do is explain to everyone how to do it...

  • @BariG94 I had a lot of requests for this, so I tried. People wanted me to explain what I do, so I explained as best as I can. :) It's a lacking explanation, but it's the only one I have.

  • @Blixish Haha yah, well for some reason there are NO videos for this or toilet vocals or what ever they're called, apparently only like 10 people in the world know how to do them!

  • @BariG94 I know a lot of people who can do these kinds of vocals, and even some that do them professionally. But none of them are able to explain it, they just "do" it. :) It is a very difficult technique to explain, and I'd say the easiest way to obtain them is to just experiment for a long time.

  • @Blixish Yah I can pig squeal and what not, I've been practicing for about a year and I've recently been figuring out gurgles, I just tighten my throat slightly and slow the air flow, but those toilet vocals confuse me cause they don't seem humanly possible

  • most intriguing, i shall attempt gurgles now!

  • i tried this because its easier to hold notes longer but it just sounds like inhaling to me... anyone have any tips on conserving 30 seconds of air for slam lows?

  • @LeviJacksonGuitarist Easily achieved with this technique.

  • But one problem I've been having is that (I'm not sure if this is correct) my right submandibular lymph node has been hurting and is a bit swollen. I don't know if it's because of my growling, but I've stopped growling altogether, just to be safe. Do you have any idea what might be wrong and/or how it can be helped?

  • I think the best way to learn this is through imitation. Try imitating one of these people/characters or any other that sounds similar: The Claw from Inspector Gadget, Louis Armstrong, Fat Albert, Peewee Herman, an elite from Halo such as The Arbiter, infidelamsterdam (youtuber), etc. I'm not sure if it can get loud eventually but in my experience, it's not as loud as false chord or fry scream. So don't ever try to push it farther than it can go! That's what mics are for.

  • I use the exact same technique. Actually i accidentally started doing them after about a year of experimenting trying to do some sort of death metal vocals.

  • hey man this video helped alot. i actually thougth this was relly helpful but my throat tickles like heck when I do it. it doesnt actually hurt but it tickles. like its wierd. does this mean I should just keep practice?

btw check out the band "Inherit Disease". That vocal style is what Id like to do!

  • thankss this really helpss i need to start practicing that technique thankss again

  • idk why, but when i do this my throat starts to sting and i start to cough ..

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, don't take this video down. That explanation was pretty damn good. I knew how to previously fry scream and do a meat wad / peewee herman voice, and it was easy for me to do... only problem is with adding more power, but that will come with practice I'm sure.

  • thanks man, this helped me soo much

  • I think i got it down, it just isnt as low as yours yet. Im guessing that it will just take time and practice.

  • i learned how to do this about a year or two ago, but i finally feel comfortable using this technique. keep practicing for those who are in the midst of practicing. it may hurt at first, but thats only because your vocal cords are becoming accustomed to the unusual use of them. ill post a video on it sooner than later.

  • I can't.

    My throat hurts!

Does it matter that my voice is changing?, I'm 15

  • @COBRichie It shouldn't matter that your voice is changing, although I can't really say that for sure. This WILL hurt if you're not careful, and if you're inexperienced with extreme vocals! Take care while practicing, and take breaks as soon as it hurts, feels scratchy or even itches. :)

  • @Blixish Hahah! nice! you stole my motto.. if it hurts, tickles, scratches, itches, or makes your throat dry, you are doing it wrong. try some other way! save your voice before it is gone. nice too, not a bad explanation. different than my technique, but the result sounds good!

  • So you take the dark vader/kermit the frog voice below your voicebox.

& push it till it goes to bubbles.

Puch the bubbles and make them go more rappedly. Then form your mouth and walla.

Practise and you'l get it pretty soon.

    & again

Fuck that, saying it's more advanced is just a shitty excuse for doing a shitty tekneque

  • @Toastzomg Hey there! Great explanation, thanks for the input. :) I don't think it's harder, per ce, but I still want to phrase it as a more advanced technique. The execution (as you said) is pretty simple once you get it down, but explaining it is pretty difficult in my opinion. False cord is a lot simpler to explain, but a bit harder to master perhaps? ^^

  • @Blixish

    Presisely!

grunting is something unexplanable if you cant get the basics down. & grunting has it's limit.

Death chord is stable and smooth, you can always get better.

Same as vocal fry, althrough I don't prefer that tekneque :)

  • I don't rly thing it's harder then death chord lows.

It diden't take me very long to master the "grunting" tekneque.

I've been training on it 3-4years. And now i can do it with total power about 40minutes. So I woulden't rly call it a stable tekneque. I mostly do it when i can't do my false/death cord vocal, since the grunting is rly low in volume.

& it's rly based on if you already know where the voice for the grunting tekneque is.

I for one did it under the name "dark vader voice"

  • Quit talking and just fuckin do it

  • @SmokinTime420 This is a tutorial. I have several other performance videos though.

  • @Blixish uhm were those inhales ????

  • @evildude18 no

  • power is what? i do pee wee well lol

  • @RILEYproMAGICIAn If that was a question for me, I think you'll have to rephrase it. :p

  • @Blixish what do u mean power

this isnt loud enough for me prob cuz i nvr practice yet...

  • @RILEYproMAGICIAn It takes practice, if that's what you're referring to. ^^ Just keep practicing, adding more and more power. (Volume)

  • For those who don't get the gurgles from this video, check out Jack Gribben's explanation.

  • @RobbyEpi420 Gribben actually has a very good explanation indeed! Thanks for the tip. :)

  • i can get the noise but its not lowed at all i try to do the falts cord or power method but that dont sound right or i hurt my throat, is there any way u could help me out with eather way? if u could help with the power method that would be best

  • @brutalcoregrowls I have a pretty big playlist on my channel called "Vocal tutorials". I think the most interresting one for you would be the "[FAQ] Distortion" video. :)

  • @Blixish kk thanks dude , btw is that a four gauge in ur nose? it looks like my earrings i have size four hoops and horseshoe earrings it looks awesome

  • @brutalcoregrowls Actually it's just 8 gauge. ^^ Thanks!

  • @Blixish no prob, so did u streach it or pierse it with a 8?

  • @brutalcoregrowls Stretched it. ^^

  • @Blixish that must of hurt, itd be worth it though, i got my ears piersed with a ten

  • @brutalcoregrowls Yeah, stretching my septum was definitely one of the most painful things I have done. Well, worth it! ^^

  • this video helps.. thanks..

  • ima fav this for looking back on it ^^ I can grunt and growl already but i got some problems with doing gutterals/gurgles. Really sounds brutal.. so ima keep this in my favs for a lookback sometime ^^

  • @sybow Gotta warn you though, this is not a very good tutorial. Explaining the extreme Slam/Brutal death technique is beyond challenging.

  • @Blixish I know i know. But somehow it does make sense to me =]

  • I tried the technique and managed to get my voice pretty low and gutturalish, but it feels almost like there's some sort of barrier that's keeping me quiet and restrained. I don't want to hurt myself, but should I be trying to push through this barrier?

  • @yusufaheisler Difficult for me to say. I did this video because of popular demand, but this technique is beyond explanation for me. Just be careful. :p

  • I basically just close my throat and blow on my false chords real hard.

I sound exactly like the grunter of Dying Fetus that. (Btw; SWEET my vids are suggested in the side bar!)

  • I can kind of get it, but if i hold it out for a bit, then it becomes scratchy in the back of my throat and i end up coughing. am i pushing too hard?

  • @catsayswhat2 Difficult for me to say. I did this video because of popular demand, but this technique is beyond explanation for me.

  • Not hatin or anything but that sounds awful..

  • @Freakonaleash499 Understood. ^^

  • I posted a video response on how i do it and what it sounds like.

  • my friend's gutturals sound completely different from mine, they're like the guy from demilich but not as low, and mine are more like what you are doing in this video. I wish I could emulate his style though.

  • Thanks man, this helped a lot.

  • 1:40 i LOL'd but yeah

  • HAHA! thanks man!

  • Ive all ways inhaled because i never knew how to exhale. ive seen a lot of growling tutorials but yours really broke it down. i feel like i now i can start to try to exhale because it doesn't hurt when i try and it sounds good (Granted i only did it for about 10 seconds). stick to it dude and keep it simple.

  • nice, you did the video. Its 4 at night atm. so cant rly start growling right now, but im sure gonna try that pee-wee herman thing tomorrow. Thx :D

  • thats exactly what i do :D

but its no so loud ._.

in your singing videos its the mic ?

  • @DanoDeStructor666 I usually project a lot more power than I did in this video. ^^ It's not nearly as loud as my false cord high pitched vocals though.

  • when i do fry growls they get fucking high. and people like bc and phil bozeman can do this with false chords :o

  • @TheNameIsPascal As I said, you can tweak your falsecord gutturals alot lower by combining it with this. ^^ It's just a matter of throat control.

  • Great advices man thanks for your help! i'll try tomorrow morning in the studio! Those vocals where to try to start where really helpfull! thanks again and have a good day!

  • @NightShadowEagle You have a good day as well. Let me know how it goes when you've tried it. :)

  • @Blixish The advices were great! Thank you very much for your help ^^ the only problem is that all my power and voice comes from throat...nothing comes from the diafram...i guess it's a matter of practice and time but could i ask you if you have any advices for this? Thanks and have great days! =)
